Hope you get on the mend soon from that accident Paul. I know exactly how you feel, I too had a really bad motorcycle accident, back in August 2000 (I had to be revived in the ambulance at the scene, had reconstructive surgery and have several metal plates in my skull, some feeling missing from some nerves, plus the scars to prove it too :( ).My advice: if it starts to hurt when you are trying out walking again, put up with it and walk as normally as you can even though it is painful, that seems to make you heal up and not be left with a limp from what I can tell!Al

Personally; and this is just me, I would like to see any FS9 V FSx thread immediately locked and I would subsequently like to see any of the why is X add-on being made for my sim threads locked as well...They are nothing more than opinionated peeing matches and do absolutely nothing to enhance the community feel of the forums. To the contrary the only thing they do is serve to create an even larger divide in the FS community than I ever remember seeing in all my years of simming. I know others love the FS9 v FSX threads and love to vent about why some add-on wasn't made for their sim but these forums were originally created for simmers helping simmers and neither the FS9 v FSX threads nor the why isn't this add-on made for my sim do anything to help or enhance the forum experience. As such I would like to set up a poll to see as a community if we can agree to remove them from the forums...I might be way off base here and not a single person may agree with me but there is only one way to find out and that is to poll it...-P
I wouldn't ban these or other dicussions unless they contravene AVSIMS rules.I would, however, ban signatures that tell me my IP address, my ISP, my operating system, and my browser. I already know that, and don't need telling time and time again!

Everything that there ever was to be said about FS9 vs FSX has already been said thousands of times. All the FS9 vs FSX threads are the same and follow the same boring, tiresome and downright irritating pattern and can be summarised by an old proverb about opinions being like a certain bodypart that we all have. I am fed up with them myself and wish they'd get locked on the spot. There is a reason there are separate FS9 and FSX forums.

Cheers,

Mack

Voted no, of course, as any FS-related topic should be fair game here, as long as we attack the post and not the poster. I do grow tired of the battle-of-the-civvy sim discussions, but of course my participation or lack of same is entirely voluntary. Must agree though, Paul, that although I wish you well in your convalescence, that signature really does make reading the forum on my iPhone a less-than-enjoyable experience. Much scrolling required with the index finger.:)

Hi Paul - I respectfully voted no on this one. While I avoid getting into heated discussions and have made a decision to be helpful rather than argumentative and point my finger at someone, I find there is value in a good debate and have learned a great deal of information that is passed along in some of those threads.I was shocked to read that you were involved in an accident and thankfully you are on the road to recovery. It takes a strong person to have compassion that you demonstrated regarding the driver of the car and hopefully she will do the right thing.Take care and get better soon,

Hi Robert!I respect everyones opinion, as others have said that is the beauty of the forums. In hindsight with a lot of the countering arguments I am not ashamed to admit that I was wrong on this one... Others have made far stronger arguments than I did and I concede there are better ways to handle these threads than to blanket lock them.As for the sig, someone should have just pm'd me... Sorry it bothered you so much MGH... The IP and everything is readily available at danasoft.com and is a joke (ha ha, lol, funny)... Certainly not intended to be so controversial to warrant a ban. (BTW: it never violated the Avsim rules in any way or I would have changed it immediately) Pitts: It was done ages ago long before we were scrolling on our Droids and I-Phones. But as you brought up a great point with the I-Phone the sig is changed... Hopefully that is better now... AL, Thank g-d you are here and OK, it sounds like a horrible accident! May I ask if you rode again? I will certainly heed your advice regarding the walking... Again, just glad you are ok and here to share your expertise with us!All the best!@!Jose, I think that is contradictory ;) LOL Glad you can take things in good spirit!Cheers everyone, thank you again for all the good wishes!-Paul

Yup I did indeed ride again, although I don't actually have a motorcycle at the moment. About two years after the crash I got myself a Kawasaki GPZ500S (which if you are in the US, you may know as the 'Ninja', as I believe that is the name it was marketed under in the US). I did not want there to be any 'psychological bogeyman' with regard to riding bikes. I had that for about two years, my wife and my mother were not pleased at that decision, but if you start saying you won't do this or that, you'd never leave the house. Having said that, there is no denying that bikes are a risk, blow a front tire on a car and you pull over to the side of the road, blow the front tire on a bike, and you'll be catapulted to the side of the road, if you are lucky LOLAl

Thanks Al, I was actually looking at bikes online yesterday... I like the cafe racer look or the Triumph Thruxton... Like you, I do not want to have a stigma and despite the known risk I can not wait to get back on two wheels. I physically feel my heart drop everytime I see or hear a bike because I miss it so much... I do know the Ninja btw, it is still a very popular bike over here...And I CERTAINLY understand mom not being happy! In my case neither is my sister or a lot of my friends wives for some reason... LOLThanks again, all the best,-Paul

No from me as well... I prefer to make my own CHOICE as to what I read or don't read... if the thread is civil and regards something I am interested in - I read and participate, otherwise I move on with no regrets for passing the uninteresting (FOR ME) thread by.
My sentiment exactly ! :(Paul, sorry to hear about your accident; i sold my 2007 VFR after only 5000 miles last fall and owning a bike since 1983; i just realized i didn't relax anymore when riding, WAY too much careless drivers out there... not counting i can be a danger to myself sometimes :(

Absolutely NO!But endless open forum discussion of My Motorcycle Accident... now that's a different story :(

A discussion as to the relative merits of one thing over another is not a bad thing, in fact it can often be quite engaging and educational. Similarly, asking why something is not being made for a particular product might not get an answer from the company in question, but then again, it might, and there is always the possibility it may elicit some useful information, so there is nothing wrong with asking. As far as both topics are concerned, so long as the method in which it is done remains civil, there is no need to arbitrarily prevent people from having such a discussion. That's the sticking point though; but if somebody cannot remain civil in such discussions, then the thing to do is tackle that person, and not to penalise others who are perfectly able to discuss things in a friendly and occasionally constructive way. This is a forum after all, so one can certainly expect opinions. We don't have to agree with such opinions, but neither do we have to get upset about them. Some people take these toy aeroplanes we like to play with way too seriously, and if they weren't arguing about which sim is better, it would be something else, and then we'd have to ban all topics if we started banning some of them.Al
I think Al pretty much nailed what I would have to say on the matter .But I must confess that when I see a thread start I do wonder how long it will take until it turns into a jailhouse riot , so I guess i do see your point Paul

FS9 is better than FSX......................Ahh crap, i'll ban myself.Paul, I had a similar thing happen to me regards the motorcycle accident. Somebody cut me off on a freeway at 100km/hr, i had a gap of a few feet either side between car and kerb to get thru, just did it, i got lucky. Then the bike broke down 5km down the road, figured someone upstairs was trying to tell me something. Sold the bike, havent been on one since, although still have riding gear and am getting the urge again.Get better mate.Andy
