Personally; and this is just me, I would like to see any FS9 V FSx thread immediately locked and I would subsequently like to see any of the why is X add-on being made for my sim threads locked as well...They are nothing more than opinionated peeing matches and do absolutely nothing to enhance the community feel of the forums. To the contrary the only thing they do is serve to create an even larger divide in the FS community than I ever remember seeing in all my years of simming. I know others love the FS9 v FSX threads and love to vent about why some add-on wasn't made for their sim but these forums were originally created for simmers helping simmers and neither the FS9 v FSX threads nor the why isn't this add-on made for my sim do anything to help or enhance the forum experience. As such I would like to set up a poll to see as a community if we can agree to remove them from the forums...I might be way off base here and not a single person may agree with me but there is only one way to find out and that is to poll it...-P

No to enforced agreement, or to mandated silence. No!Stephen
Respect your opinion Stephen, that's why I want to see how others feel... Just because I might want it or think it don't make it right ;) I am just so tired of the non-productive and argumentative posts that bring nothing positive to the hobby...

I voted 'No'. To be honest, I hardly ever see (or notice) topics like that and if I would see or notice them, I'd simply skip them because I'm not interested in it at ALL. I am perfectly happy with er... my version of the sim :( and couldn't care less about what other have to say about it. Apart from that, I like freedom of speech and the less topics are locked or removed the better imho. If others like to participate in useless posts just in order to annoy themselves... that's up to them. :( Some people got way too much time on their hands... :(

Great points... I should just do a better job of avoiding them and ignoring them myself. I can definitely look in the mirror and modify my own behavior...

A discussion as to the relative merits of one thing over another is not a bad thing, in fact it can often be quite engaging and educational. Similarly, asking why something is not being made for a particular product might not get an answer from the company in question, but then again, it might, and there is always the possibility it may elicit some useful information, so there is nothing wrong with asking. As far as both topics are concerned, so long as the method in which it is done remains civil, there is no need to arbitrarily prevent people from having such a discussion. That's the sticking point though; but if somebody cannot remain civil in such discussions, then the thing to do is tackle that person, and not to penalise others who are perfectly able to discuss things in a friendly and occasionally constructive way. This is a forum after all, so one can certainly expect opinions. We don't have to agree with such opinions, but neither do we have to get upset about them. Some people take these toy aeroplanes we like to play with way too seriously, and if they weren't arguing about which sim is better, it would be something else, and then we'd have to ban all topics if we started banning some of them.Al

No from me as well... I prefer to make my own CHOICE as to what I read or don't read... if the thread is civil and regards something I am interested in - I read and participate, otherwise I move on with no regrets for passing the uninteresting (FOR ME) thread by.Sometimes the "threads" you suggest to lock are valuable tools in assisting the community tweak one (or BOTH) of the sims a little better. I see no harm in letting the threads develop to their own potential or eventually locked by a moderator applying proper forum rules :(

Paul: Generally, I don't follow those FSX vs FS9 threads because I don't have enough time, but I voted "No" as I feel this is one of the few public places where one can go to where developers can be urged to develop their products for both/either sim. This can be a very isolating hobby and this forum is one place I rely on to check myself and my thinking about MSFS -- sometimes it keeps me from going crazy when somebody posts something that I've been thinking for a long time, but feel too silly or picayune to reveal.BTW, how're you feeling? Getting around at all since the accident? PM me if you want.

I also went with no, However sometimes those threads can get a little heated, and if the name calling starts then it should automatically get deleted and the culprit warned as i feel this is no place to be doing that. Other than that there really is nothing wrong with a good ol CIVIL debate.

No, we're not going to lock down the FS9 vs. FSX or MSFS vs. X-Plane threads. I could go into a long winded explanation as to why, but in short, we have no desire to prevent any opinions about any topic so long as they are void of personal attacks, insults, rudeness, etc. And even then, it's only the member who needs banned, not the topic.

Hmmm, I clearly did not think this through and I am clearly wrong on this one... No problem admitting it either...After thinking it through and listening/reading some of the responses here I think you guys make a lot of sense and clearly have this one right, I was off base with this one... (Can I change my own vote ;) )Chuck,I am feeling ok, yesterday was 8 weeks since the accident and the ribs are all healed, the ankle is back in joint and 6 out of the 8 fractures are set and stable. Most of the nerve sensation is coming back as well. I can wiggle the toes again :) Right now they are saying another month on crutches to let the swelling subside and allow the last fractures to set and then I will start weight bearing and 8 months of therapy. So all in all things are great! I am on the mend and being I am fortunate to be alive and be here I never complain :)Will PM you b/c I want to know how you are doing...Thanks again guys, appreciate all the opinions/feedback... -Paul

I'm sorry Paul, I never heard that something happened. Glad you are on the mend. Car accident?Stephen

Why? Everybody has the right to freedom of type as long as nobody is insulted. If a poster feels the need to express there feelings on flight simulation then isnt this the place to do so? It can get a bit repetative but we dont have to get involved, it is a bit hard not to sometimes!!!!!!

Thanks Stephen! It was a motorcycle accident into a guardrail at 60-65mph. It could have been much much worse so all in all I am quite fortunate... I also go to bed and wake up every day and every night grateful to be here while the woman who cut me off and then drove away has to go to bed and wake up every day not knowing if I died on the side of the road so I am convinced she has it much worse than me.The only thing I can say is thank g-d I was wearing the right protection or else I am certain I would not be here...Thank you very much again Stephen, all the best,-PaulPS... I guess you can see why I find all these arguments a bit silly... :)PSS... I guess you can also see why i have had so much time on my hands LOL
