SibWings Bird Dog?

Featured Replies

I realize this has been out for quite some time but it just recently had an update to improve the flight model that evidently was somewhat dicey in the first release. After seeing it in some promos for FTX NA recently it looks very nice indeed. Have any of you purchased this and if so what do you think. Seems like their purchase/activation method is a little cumbersome to me. :( THANXSteve

Its a nice aircraft, good on frames. Can't speak for the flight model as I bought it after the update but it certainly does not fly as if on rails. As for the activation methods employed by Sibwings it all works fine just go slow and read the instructions carefully before each step.Bryan.

WOW, that was quick :( Good to hear it's easy on the frames, that VC looks spectatcular! If I might ask, how are the sounds?Steve

This is a great plane with the release of the updated flight model. No impact on frames on my system. Great sound. If you're looking for a realistic, simple little GA plane, this is it.Cheers,Noel.

Thanks Noel, I was just reading the activation guide again. If I understand, I download the file, I purchase the product which gives me a link in email. When I run the installer it gives me a "hardware #" that I use in that link to get the activation code so the installer will finish, PHEW :( I'm tired now :( Steve

Great aircraft for sight-seeing the PNW, Steve, and have been flying it since about a month before the Service Pack was released. It now has military and civilian, floats & ski's spread over fifteen/sixteen (I think) liveries. The beauty of the 'Dog is it's short-field performance - with just over 200 ponies it gets airborne pretty darn quick. You can also put it down in the same manner: it slips very well, and with 60 degrees of flap it can descend at 2000'/min and stop on a dime when it gets there. It's stall and spin are both now predictable and realistic - but - like many aircraft of the '40's/50's - it can bite. If you're in the habit of nice n lazy circuits around a new piece of scenery - say FTX 3W5 Concrete - at about 3 or 400 feet, just doing some "slightly" steep turns, perhaps a bit slower than you should - you know - eyes on the main street stores and the amazing FTX detail - you might want to straighten up ... but you've just run out of aileron and she's roLLING IN!!! Yes - it caught me once, but never again! Man! Was I suprised! :( The FDE is fixed. The graphics - especially the interior vc - are photo-real quality. I can't say more - the pics on the site speak for themselves. This is one fine addition that you will enjoy more each time you take her out. No regrets: Jump at it. :(Did I say it comes with the original Pilot's Notes?

I have several hundred hours as a CFI (back seat) and more in the front seat as a Civil Air Patrol check flight officer in the A model. These were military hand me downs with the radios ripped out but all the gauges remaining. All low time good flying machines. The flight model is as close to the real thing as I can remember. What I liked best was a full flap take off from grass - think of an elevator. What I liked least was a 40 hour Cessna 152 pilot ready for a check ride and never been in a tail dragger before (think gjzzziiinnngggg as the prop hits the concrete).I also did not purchase the original model, but jumped on the first update. I like all the various paints and models, love the floats version. I think it is easier to actually register the purchase than it is to read how to do it. I took a couple of screen shots as I progessed just in case I screwed it up, but, I didn't have any hiccups at all.If you haven't purchased it yet, I would highly recommend it to those that are not looking for something with an autopilot. This is more like a super cub on steroids. (lots of steroids).RayM

I can safely say it's the best aeroplane I've bought so far. The A2A Cub comes second, sorry Cub, live with it! :(

The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

I concur with the above...certainly one of my favourite (if not the favourite) GA aircraft, along with the Carenado 185 (which also has an improved FDE installed)

I guess I don't get this view by many. I have it, and still feel it is buggy in some way, and highly recommend the A2A Cub over this release in almost every way, in addition to my RealAir Scout, and many others. In fact, I'll take Ant's freeware Moth over it.I dunno, folks get excited about it, but unfortunately it will probably mostly sit in my hanger.I don't usually say anything negative about a developers product, but when issues are not corrected time and time again, I prefer to just move on.....but I had to get that off my chest I guess.

Buggy in what way?
It's the simple stuff, like the radios still not working correctly (skipping frequencies). That kinda stuff just turns me off after it has been brought up and never corrected.

I totally forgot about this little bird! I just cheked the SibWings website and think I shall download it tonight! So thanks for the "heads up"!.Wolfgang

Awesome all around airplane. Before the patch I could never add more than 30 deg flaps. Even at full power she would try and stall on you. Now it is much better and one fo the best for FSX....
