October 24, 201015 yr Commercial Member Captains-Those of you who have spent some time here know that I am a sucker for vintage airliners... Has anyone figured out how to get the glideslope indicator to appear in the Captain Sim 707 for FSX?I picked this up a month ago or so- and it makes for a great brain-break from working on the NGX... But so far it has been VFR only since I can't sort out how to get the glideslope indicator to appear- and I think it's not a good idea to fly a single pilot NDB in an airplane of this size. :( Any advice greatly appreciated. October 24, 201015 yr Hey Robert,I too had issues with this, I just picked it up a day ago! The CS documentation is not quite on PAR with the PMDG stuff...they don't even have a picture of it! Not to mention, how to work the fuel system....It is BARELY visible on the left side of the HSI. It's not all the way on the left, but on the same internal card, rotating part of the HSI. There is one longer line, that moves up and down over the smaller lines! It works for me about 90% of the time, but when I'm doing my typical "fly and ILS, land, slew, repeat" thing I do for new planes to get them down, it is hit or miss!I'll boot up the sim and try and get a screenie for you...K r e g E.Addition: Be sure to get the new V1.2, completely uninstall, and then reinstall per the advice of some CS users! October 24, 201015 yr Can you guys recommend the 707? I just read the glideslope indicator is hard to read
October 24, 201015 yr Alright,Here are some pictures! The GS Ind. is hard to read for sure. However, this plane is, IMO pretty darn good! It lacks the depth of PMDG, but runs very smooth, looks amazing, and flies well (except for the ridiculous trim). It has a few issues (you can see them at the CS forum). However, I thoroughly enjoy it and plan to do an Oceanic flight as soon as I learn the CIVA INS. I actually highly recommend it, if you're willing to part with $66 USD. However, as soon as the PMDG 737X arrives, I'm sure it'll take a back seat!Okay, some pictures for you RSR....please don't critique my technique...as I literally jumped in the sim and slewed to get these! Now, a question for you RSR...how does the 737X run FPS wise vs the CS 707? The 707 runs excellent on my system, and I hope the 737 will be about the same! Image Coming... KregE | B757/767 FO
October 24, 201015 yr The 707 Captain is a very decent simulation. With the last patch 1.2 almost all bugs were cured and now it is just pure pleasure.I must comment on what I really like about the 707 - the landing gear shock absorbers do really absorb (unlike other add on aircrafts) and do make the landings very nice experience. The feeling that introduces the realistic absorbers while taxi is like you really drive a heavy jet around. Job well done...My comment extended to Mr. Randazzo: I sure hope we'll get the physics of the 737NGX landing gear as real as possible too.Further what you might not like about the 707 f is the lack of modern navigation means. There is posibility to use the CIVA INS unit (not fully implemented in the VC) and of course the Doppler Navigation Unit (which I simply refuse to study). Regards, Martin Martinov / VATSIM 1207931

October 24, 201015 yr Both the 727 and 707 are for pilots who like to fly airplanes instead of programing computers and pushing buttons.
October 24, 201015 yr Commercial Member It's sad, I've purchased both the 707 and 727 but have yet to get even load them up yet. Maybe some day I will have some time... Noah Bryant
October 24, 201015 yr It's sad, I've purchased both the 707 and 727 but have yet to get even load them up yet. Maybe some day I will have some time...You're missing out! As the poster above said, the "big airplane feel and shock absorbing" are great! I love the way it settles on the ground, but it's also something that I have an issue yet! My installation has no touchdown sound?! So, it's hard to know you are on the ground until you see that runway indicator on the AI disappear!I'm still enjoying her though! Image Coming... October 26, 201015 yr simple solution.....pull out that stop watch and treat as a LOC approach. hahah nah jk However, I am working on my IFR ticket and I always forget to start my timer.... :( that being said, its still fun though haha FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠 Matt Kubanda, 7950X3D, 64GB RAM, RTX 5090@4k, MSFS 2024
October 26, 201015 yr Author Commercial Member Kreg-AH- thanks! That was the mystical solution. Silly me I was looking for the glideslope indicators to appear on the ADI and on the outside of the HSI. Not sure what model (I'm assuming Collins) HSI/ADI combo that is- but it is definitely old... That G/S indicator is practically unusable by modern standards. :( If I had more free time I might even research that one... I'm not convinced something didn't get missed here- but there are so many variations on avionics in the few remaining 707s still flying out there- I'm sure they had some good references for this one.In the mean time I'll just have to keep the reading glasses handy for the ILS approaches. :( (Yes... Still 20/10 and 20/10 on the distance vision... but occasionally need the readers for the Jepp plates now... My wife thinks they make me look "seasoned." Is that code for old? )Thanks again, Kreg! When I make my nightly pleasure flight from KRNT to KBFI, i'll be able to use the G/S effectively. LOL..Been making that flight lately in the NGX to test out all the various starting and stopping contraptions I'm giving final checkouts to. i'd forgotten how much fun the baby Boeing is! It's sad, I've purchased both the 707 and 727 but have yet to get even load them up yet. Maybe some day I will have some time...Noah-The dirty little secret of the developer. The 707 runs excellent on my system, and I hope the 737 will be about the same!Kreg-Just for kicks I did a test comparison a few moments ago. I'm getting about 10-15% higher FPS in the NGX right now than I get in the CS707...I'm not going to give out raw numbers because we can't really compare apples to aluminum ingot... but that should give you an idea on your own rig...(don't tell anyone I told you!) :( Robert S. October 26, 201015 yr RSR,That is some great news. Really looking forward to this plane. I'm looking to get my ATP soon (money), and maybe a 737 type rating (even more money) if I get furloughed, so the NGX could help me brush up on flows and such! To be honest, the 1000's of hours in the original 737NG really helped, even if I hadn't touched in 2 years, when flying the 737 sim!Jepp plates? Must be nice! My company is really cheap, and we only use the gov't ones! It's really hard to read them at night in the clouds getting bounced everywhere with hardly any light, and no chart clips, especially when they are bound in an AFD type book (the PAC charts they call them out here). If you need another member to help with these proving flights, I'm available haha! I'm sure I could, maybe (well, probably not), find something valuable to help out haha! Just rode jumpseat in a 739 from LAS-SEA, and been dying for a FSX 737 to take my observations and apply them to some computer stick time!Edit: Be sure to download the file in the Avsim library titled 707perf.zip. Has some decent information to actually use the 707! Image Coming... KregE | B757/767 FO
