X-Plane 10 Tuesdays on hold...

Uh just because World Of AI calls their aircraft AI doesn't make it so. Where in the SDK can I actually setup an AI object.. like I said it only refers to ATC or Non ATC. Something I'm missing here?

Not sure what you are saying here. AI and ATC are 2 different things, although they interact. The AI system spawns additional aircraft (Could also be other objects, like road traffic, or boats) based on flight plans defined in the traffic BGL files, or generated by 3rd party process. In the case of WOAI these flight plans are real world (At the time of it's creation) where MyTraffic and Traffic X are generated randomly, but appropriate for the area. These are usually point to point. Where as UT2 (Which also use real world schedules) takes it a step further and sets up actual flight plans with way points. ATC controls these aircraft (as well as the user aircraft) on the ground, and assigns the intermediate altitude assents and descents, and takeoff, approach and landing clearances.

Thanks

In general I agree with you, a couple of things though. (and I do have XP9) There are some things that can be discerned from the info and screen shots shown. Most of the default aircraft, looks very good, with the exception of the 747-400. I hope that gets fixed before release. Scenery wise, from ground level, it looks very good, especially the airport lighting (Assuming that is an in game shot). You can also garner, from Austin's own statements, that it will still be limited to 20 AI aircraft. I haven't seen anything or heard anything about whether the visibility limitation will be lifted in XP10. As for the estimates of release, realistically being a Software Engineer myself, I can't see how it could be ready for release by December, if it hasn't been assembled and put through integration testing yet? Maybe a Beta release, but if that is Austin's plan, I don't think that's a very good idea. As we've sen with the FSX release, first impressions last. Ace's made the mistake as activating the jetways for AI aircraft by default, as well as allowing scenery density settings to surpass the capabilities of the systems of the day, resulting with the users being greeted with a slide show. Even demonstrating by disabling the jetway feature for AI aircraft, improved performance, and with the more powerful systems available now, many still won't try it again, because of their first experience with it. If XP10 is released as an early Beta and has the inevitable bugs that such a release usually results in, it may be difficult change people's first impressions, even after the problems are solved. True even a full RTM release, can and probably will still have bugs, but hopefully at that stage they would be less serious.
My whole point was not that it will be ready by December. My point was to prove that striders comments were unfounded and baseless. First he said 6 months to a year and now it's 4 to 6 months. The airport lighting is definitely an in SIM screenshot. The AI (20 aircraft) is something people have been asking for. However, Austin himself has said in an interview on fsbreak, he isn't a fan of AI. He said it's a flight simulator. Not an Air Traffic simulator. You may argue that AI traffic is part of flight, but obviously it's not considered that way by some people. If I can get better performance out of a sim by not having AI traffic, I will turn it off. But that's just me and, obviously, does not relate to everyone. But when it comes to a sim developers preferences, not everyone agrees with him/her/them. As with any software, it's impossible to give firm release dates. The goal was for December. Going by that estimate, I think it's fair to say it will be a lot less than 4-12 months.
I have to disagree with you there. XP9 does not perform better on my system than FSX when used with comparable detailed aircraft. That's with XP9 rendering less area with it's limited 25nm visibility and it's limited number of AI aircraft. FSX renders hundreds of AI aircraft, and up to 175nm. Only when FSX is used with more complex and detailed aircraft, than anything X-Plane has currently, does XP9 perform better. Here's an example. This is the Overland 747 which is comparable to the XP9 default 747-400, 9 (and it even has a VC) sitting at runway 25R at KLAX. FSX has detailed airport scenery, XP9 does not
It's hard to see what is going on in those screenshots as I would have to see the different settings for FSX and X Plane that you are using. There are many videos that have been made with X Plane aircraft that show clear differences in performance when compared to FSX.

This hasn't necesarily been my expereince, I have a pretty beefy machine(specs below). And when xplane is good, it's really good 60 fps over 5040 x 1050 resolution. But If I have more than one cloud layer it tanks down to 18 and the fog rolls it.If I fly over an imported scenery then it's pretty good(Flightzone KPDX imports beautifully, so does SunSky Jet KPHL BTW).But if I turn on the pixel shaders it tanks again down to the low 20s.Different aircraft don't seem to affect it too much, I have the falco, the sundowner, all of Nils Danielsens stuff(his helicopter is a work of art IMHO) and the MU2 Marquise.I can live without the pixel shaders, but that cloud layer thing really irks me.FSX I can keep locked at 24 and fly in any weather with 4 cloud layers and it stays put.

Hi Greg (or "Goran" ?) - "However, Austin himself has said in an interview on fsbreak, he isn't a fan of AI. He said it's a flight simulator. Not an Air Traffic simulator. You may argue that AI traffic is part of flight, but obviously it's not considered that way by some people."I didn't listen to that podcast, but it's already been stated that not only will there be AI traffic, but the AI aircraft will be subject to the same flight models as everything else - IMO this is a colossal waste of processing power - but there it is.Second, if there is other air traffic, and it's being simulated, it doesn't matter whether you call it an air traffic simulator or not. It certainly factors heavily into my own RW flying. I don't know the percentage of people flying sims that -can- run traffic but choose not to, but as far as immersion goes, I like having other aircraft around. I'm hoping that ATC is good and that I can adjust the realism of the AI flight model though.Andrew

Do you sleep at night ?? You haven't proved anything...The only prove there is that Tuesday Preview is on hold because they are not even close to being ready for a release. Dec is next month...I was being sarcastic when I first made that statement about the 6 to 12 months ETA. 4 to 6 months is alot more realistic then Dec. It's bassed on the fact that they have very lil they can show, and what they have shown is not very impressive in my mind. Common sense says they won't be ready by DEC...

Umm, ok...?

That is not very optimistic, but it is your opinion. I think now is a good time to wait for new information as it becomes available, because this thread has slowly fallen apart. With any luck, the next update will be soon.

You're definitely correct in that statement. Strider had an opinion based on assumption. I disagreed with Strider and voiced my own opinion based on certain information I have. So it seems strider can have an opinion but others can't. It may very well not be ready by December. But I can safely say it will be less than 4-6 months.By the way, Ping Pong (is it just me that feels weird calling people by their username)...Hope you're enjoying the Sundowner.biggrin.gifI have to admit, The Duchess is better because I added some cool features in that which I plan on adding in the update for the Sundowner.

Based on what ??? ;) Just common sense brother !!Cheers ! X-Plane 10 DelayedWe previously projected that X-Plane 10 would be released in December of 2010. We now know that we won't be able to meet this date and still deliver the simulator that we envision X-Plane 10 to be; in order to meet the standards we have for Version 10, we have to push its release back some number of months.

*sigh*You said it would be 4-6 months for TESTING. If you bothered to read Ben Supniks latest post, you would see they want to add more features. The reason you came up with is incorrect. You said 4-6 months for testing. Not further development. Before making a post, do a little bit of homework before you try to make yourself look like someone who knows what he is talking about.

"Austin releases betas and RC's throughout the update cycle of the version that is currently on the market. If they are assembling the individual parts of the simulator now, that means release is imminent.I give it 4 to 6 WEEKS. "-GregM30Nov. 3, 2010Would you still like to discuss the lack of images?

I don't understand how your question relates to my quote.Austin DOES release betas and RC's throughout the current version of x plane that is on the market. They DID make mention they were assembling the individual parts of the simulator. The fact they decided to add more features obviously makes release later than expected.A blind man in a dark room can see that.

"-strider1Nov. 2, 2010If you don't understand by now, there's really not much I can do to help you understand.Goran, you go on and keep digging down deeper into that hole you've found yourself in, and I'll stay up here, where we can see things for what they are.Not sure if you know what that means, as it appears that English is not your first language, though you are obviously very fluent.

Excellent. Feel free to quit.

I thought you could see things for what they are...English is my first language. And I am very fluent. I guess you just answered all your questions.
