Pushback

Featured Replies

I've now advanced to learning how to fly the bigger jets (737-400) and since this aircraft is parked at a gate I need to use the "pushback" feature. According to the manual I need to release the brake, press ctrl+p to start and stop the pushback. This part works fine. The manual also says to use the numeric 1 & 2 keys to turn the aircraft during pushback. I can't get this to work. I have tried the 1 & 2 keys across the top of the keyboard. I have tried the ! & 2 keys on the numeric keypad with Num Lock turned on and off with no luck. I'm currently using Flight Sim 2004. What am I doing wrong?

What am I doing wrong?
Most likely not waiting long enough.Use the 1 and 2 on top of the keyboard, not the numeric keypad. The plane will travel about half it's wingspan before it begins to turn, after pushing 1 or 2.BTW, 3 will pause pushback and 4 will resume it.regards,Joe

I have recently discovered FS9 Toolbox by Eric Marciano.Among other useful things it has a neat Pushback function that lets you control the push direction with the rudder.Phil

Also note that you cannot press any keys or change your view between the time you press Shift P and when you press 1 or 2. If you do you will "break" the command and you will not turn.Hope this helps,

Ok, I tried the 2 suggestions. From SPOT view I pressed shift+p which began the pushback. Staying in SPOT view I continuously held down the 1 key (key above the Q key) for the entire pushback which lasted approximately 30 seconds. Nothing happened. The aircraft never turned. Now I'm really stumped.I checked by keyboard assignments with FS9 just to make sure I hadn't at some previous time changed the 1 and 2 assignments but they are still set at the default settings.

There is no need to hold down the 1 key, simply press it immediately after releasing Shift+P.Are you doing this with a default plane or an addon?Try it with a default plane first to verify that it works. Some gauges for addon planes interfere with this operation by sending signals to FS between the time you release Shift+P and press 1. You cannot press the keys fast enough to beat this, however there is an addon to fix this issue.First things first is to verify default planes, with default panels, work properly.regards,Joe[adding]if you load the default Baron, with both engines running at idle, press E then 1 and increase throttle to full. What happens?[/adding]

Personally, I just push it back and roll far enough to be able to taxi out of the position. works every time if you do it that way LOLAl

Why not use Rob Barendregt's great gauge and have the PB controlled automatically?http://library.avsim...4gau&DLID=69682One of the best things I have ever added to any panel.

I'm flying the default Boeing 737-400.

Ok, I downloaded the zip file. Since I'm new to adding add-ons to FS could you help me make sure I do things right? I know I have to unzip the file first. Can I unzip it into any folder on my pc or do I need to unzip it to a specific folder with in FS9? Once it is unzipped how do I make FS9 aware of this add-on? Once FS9 is aware of it how do I use it with the aircraft I am currently flying? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Did not just pressing 1 and releasing it not work? You should:1. Press Shift, hold it down, then press and release the P key, then release the Shift key and wait for your plane to start moving back.2. Press and release the 1 key above the main keyboard and wait for your plane to start turning.3. Press Shift P to end the pushback.Hope this helps,

Unzip it to a temporary folder first.Find the instrcutions and read them and follow them exactly. It really is not too difficult.Always unzip anything you download to a temporary folder first (perhaps on your Desktop) and read the documentation.

Nope, nothing happens when I press and release either the 1 or 2 key.

I agree 100% with David - do persevere with Rob Barendregt's gauge. It's well worth entering his name into AVSIM's file library search, because that is by no means the only bit of software that he has created for FS. I have quite a few of his files installed and they have become a fixture in my simming habits.Martin

Note that cntrl-p pushes you back for at least the length of the plane before the turn starts. You only have to press the keys once.
