ATC Problem Again

Featured Replies

Hello again everyone,This is a kind of follow-up to the problem I was having a few weeks ago with my ATC, which was posted in this forum. I mostly resolved that problem by downloading and installing the EditVoicePack program. But, now I have a new problem that is driving me up the wall. It is a radio/ATC problem whereby I never get passed onto Center when on an IFR flight. Communications on the ground are fine, as is Departure control. Approach control also works, when and/if I get handed off. The problem occurs when Departure control issues an instruction hours into a long flight that requires a reply, and I miss said instruction and reply. My IFR flightplan gets cancelled, and I am no longer in radio contact with anybody. I don't get an option to re-file an IFR flightplan. The only thing visible in the ATC communications window is "1. Nearest Airports List". I figured out that I can dial in approach control when I get close to my destination airport, but this does not always work. Sometimes I get nothing, sometimes I have to be right over the destination airport to get approach control, and sometimes I get it about 30 or so miles out. Now, if I don't miss the ATC instruction and reply, ATC (which is on the Departure control frequency of the airport that I departed, no matter the length of the flight) hands me right off to Approach so that I can begin my approach to land. Is there anyway to get Center back? Can I pull the required files from FS9 CD's? Is there a download of some kind that will remedy this problem? The only thing I can think of is to re-install FS9. But, I don't want to do this, because FS9 is running better than it's ever run, and there are no other problems with anything associated with FS9, and I don't want to screw that up. Anybody have any ideas?FYI, here is the link to the post I mentioned above regarding the last ATC problem I had that's been resolved:http://forum.avsim.n...oblem-with-atc/Thanks in advance,Adam

AdamThis doesnt answer your question , but my advice is to get "ProFlight Emulator" or "Radar Contact" for your FS9 installation. Light years ahead of the default ATC.I use PFE and it is great hearing the different accents of the ATC controllers and AI aircraft, depending where you are in the world and what nationality the AI airline is.Peter

Have you tried filing a new flight plan by going to FlightPlanner option in the "Flight" menu (I think that's what it is called)? That's how I always do it when ATC terminates all ATC services because I didn't notice I had to react.

I completely Agree. My problem was after installing My Traffic it was like FS ATC Couldn't handle the traffic. I was getting alot of wierd approaches and sometimes just getting forgotten about. After installing Radar Contact havn't had one problem yet.

AdamSounds like your original ATC problem was not solved. What kind of clutter did you remove from your HDD? I wonder if your registry got damaged. There are several FS entries in the registry. I wonder if the FS registry repair tool from the Avsim library might help. I just had to run it for a problem I had. Also, if you've never done it you might run a registry cleaner. There are several free one's out there.EditVoicePack is a great program. I use it to add call signs, airport names and other phrases for my sceneries.Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

Hi Adam,FS will allow you to file a flight plan in the air. But I think you need to re-load the FP first to get the option.John

Yes! your right John I have done it many times, what you must remember to do though is NOT select the option to move your aircraft to the Airport or you will have to start right back from the beginning of your flt plan again.Once you have selected the NO option you will see in your ATC window the option to open your IFR plan again .(my wording may not be quite correct, but its one of those things that will be obvious once you have done it a few times.PS I now fly without any ATC at all and much prefer that option. I create my plans In FSNav and whilst taking care to observe airport etiquette (not taxing through, under or over other aircraft I fly blissfully free of ATC chatter (to much in my opinion) sometimes I will tune to centres or even select the flight following option If I am feeling particularly lonely on a long flt.Andy

Thanks Guys,I have done this many times since the problem started and it doesn't work. I have no Center to contact to re-file a flightplan with, that's the problem. Even if I go through the menu, I never get an option in my ATC window to "File an IFR Flightplan", because I don't have Center to talk to. I can re-file with Approach when I get close to my arrival airport, but this doesn't always work, so I can't count on it. FS used to let me re-file a flightplan in mid-air, but that was before the problem started. Follow my link and you'll see what my original problem was. To make a long story short, I was not getting a hand-off to anybody after talking to Departure. Now, Departure will eventually hand me off to Approach if I don't miss any instructions and have my flightplan cancelled. I never get handed off to Center anymore because I don't have Center, and that's where the problem is. I can't dial in Departure because I am already too far away, and I can't use Approach because I am not close enough. There is nobody between the two to dial in, that's my problem.Bob, I am going to download the Registry Repair Tool and I will let you know what happens. Thanks again,Adam

Bob,I don't know the name of the program I used, but it was a freeware type thing where you could optimize your PC. I did things like delete cookies, delete temporary internet files, clear my browser, optimize and clean out my windows registry, optimize the number of programs that windows starts when it first starts up, de-frag the hard drive, clear up memory, and delete doubles of files. That is where I think I ran into trouble, deleting doubles of files. The program compiled a list of all the double files that I had, and I made the mistake of deleting them without going through them. I glanced at the list quickly, and there were a few FS9 files present. I didn't make the connection, and deleted the entire list. Ever since then I have been having the ATC problem with FS9. That is really the only big problem with FS, other than a few missing textures here and there and a few panel problems, but those are easily fixable. It's the ATC I don't know how to fix.I searched for your Registry Repair Tool in the AVSIM database, but came up empty-handed. Could you recommend one that I could try? Thanks very much,Adam

This is from the editvoicepak manual.I have done this many times. and you won't have to re-install fs9EditVoicepack won’t start (Microsoft Voicepack damaged)Typically this happens when the voicepack files of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight has been changed by another program than EditVoicepack (like MyTraffic) but it can also happen in a few other situations. Please restore the original file from your Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight CD number 2. The file is inside the file "MSGame4.cab" for the 10 voice setup, and inside the "MSGame5.cab" file for the three voice setup. Copy the file to the Sound directory under the Flight Simulator directory. In case the Sound directory contains files named *.evpOrg or Evp_Accelerated.gvpthey should be deleted."MSGame4.cab" for the 10 voice setup, and inside the "MSGame5.cab" file for the three voice setup."actually I think the ten voice is in the MSGame5.cab and the three voice in MSGame.4 Cheers AndyPS I don't think buying another ATC program is a good until you have sorted this current problem of yours with the default ATC.After all its part of FSim and should work.AndyPS you have got a pilot voice selected ?Andy

Andy,I tried your suggestion, and it didn't work. There is still no Center to talk to. Again, the only thing in my ATC communication window is "1. Nearest Airport List." That's it. Nothing else!! Why? Because I deleted something I shouldn't have, and I don't know how to get it back. Also, I think you might have misunderstood the problem that I am having. Editvoicepack works fine, it's FS9 that has the problem.Again, Clearance Delivery, Ground, ATIS, Tower, Departure and Approach all work the way they are supposed to, as do all the different voices. The problem is if Departure cancels my IFR flightplan, I can't refile because there is no-one to re-file with. Previously, I would just contact Center and re-file. But, now, because Center doesn't exist, I can't do that. How do I get Center back? Thanks,Adam

HelloI do know what your problem is, its just that the section from the EDVP mentions a damaged voicepak which I thought might be your problem. I am sorry it didn't work for you.cheers Andy

Some other things to try! Have you tried re-setting your 'ASSIGNMENTS' in FS9 to there default'sNobody seems to no why ,but they can change without any user input..It happens to me on quite a regular basis and then normal Key functions such as talking to ATC etc will not work correctly. Its at that point I simply choose the 'Reset to Default' option in ASSIGNMENTS and I am good to go again.PS If you know all this stuff then I apologize ,In this situation its best to try all options.PPS Have you tried letting FS9 rebuild its CFG file?If not then simply remove the current one to a safe location.Start FS9 (it will automatically generate a new CFG )and see if that has any effect. (All settings will be set to the original default ,but it doesn't take long to set them back to your own custom favourites)Anyway If that doesn't work just put the original FS9 CFG file (the one you saved) back and a least that's one other option you have tried and can rule out.CHEERS Andy

I've been thinking hard about this one - with a full understanding of your description I'm thinking there is going to be no easy solution. It seems to me that somewhere deep in I-don't-know-where in FS's file system, a database of centres, their geographical locations and their wavelengths has been lost or damaged. Unless anybody knows which file this might be, I don't see any choice but a reinstall. As a first step I would take a copy of your entire setup and then reinstall to the original directory. That should over-write any corrupt files with original ones (and replace any missing ones) but it will also over-write any original files that have been deliberately modified (some add-on sceneries diatate that you should do this) so it might not be a perfect solution. But it's worth a try.But perhaps hang on in there for a while in case somebody can identify the file I'm talking about.John

I think it's Brian Collins who has done an Excel file of the FS9 discs contents. Search for his name to try to find the zip.Disc 2 has what looks like all the .wav files and one which could possibly be helpful. it's path is:- FS9\Disc2\MSGAME6.cab and the file is USEnglishASOS.gvp. You could try extracting that or the other .wav files if you get no other ideas.Colin BEdit:- Contents file is :- fs9cddir.zip which I got here (thanks to OPA)More files which might apply are MSGAME4.cab\USEnglishSmall.gvp and MSGAME5.cab\USEnglishBig.gvp
