I stand corrected. It is the junction that fails. Depending on the materials, it can be as low as 125 degrees C.Best regards,Robin.

Too bad your *new* Dell is already out-dated due to Sandy Bridge released within this month. If I were you I would cancel the order and build my own computer. No brand name computer can reach 5 GHZ with the new i7/i5 cpu's (sandy bridge). If you feel lazy ask somebody you know that is good with computers to help you out. The only thing Dell is good for is their laptops. Other than that I wouldn't waste my money on their desktops unless you're just browsing youtube and facebook all day.

While I appreciate everyone wants to make their opinion known and has a right to do so, some comments are starting to go a bit overboard. I've got the new Dell computer. I'm very happy with it. I did not want to build my own and NOT because I was lazy (as asserted by bigsmokesa) and while I do know a little about hardware, I'm not an elderly capitalist either (RonHamilton1954 - that's such a stupid comment). I'm not taking it back. End of story. Could a forum moderator now please lock this topic?

Hi guys,Im thinking of overclocking my I7 see below for specs. Never done this before so could someone direct me in the right direction for doing this.

Got myself the new i7 2600k this week and just did some initial tests in FSX. The MD-11 and J41 at FTX PNW KSEA run at about 30fps in daytime fair weather conditions with autogen and scenery complexity both set at dense. So far I've overclocked only to 4.4GHz. Promising results so far... I wonder if the NGX will perform even better.

You received a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking after the fact, which wasn't all that helpful. Every system has it's quirks so don't worry about your purchase .... it's a good system you're going to enjoy it. You'll need some help to tune it if you want the maximum .... but enjoy it for a few months 1st. And congratulations.

I have 4 Dell computers, 1 for FSX the others for the wife and kid- and 1 at work. I think they are fine. My Quad Core 720H2C runs FSX very well (OC to 3.7 Ghtz, dual 8800 GTX video cards - 4 mb ram). I get 100+ FPS with some planes and 40-50 with the LD767 (sliders most 1/2 to 3/4), the LD767 is really bad at everything maxed out (probably 10-15 fps). I run out of memory with the 747, but that is because I have Vista 32. I priced out the top of the line computer from TigerDirecr and it came out to $4600. The top of the line Alienware was $5800. If my computer can't run the new 737, I'll buy the Alienware. I really don't have the patience to build a computer. But I think the Dells are solid, and enough about the "capilist" stuff - that sounds like a disgrunted communist or an anarcist. Reasonable profits are good for the economy. BTW: I should try to run in Win 7, before I buy a new computer. Can I save the PDMG 747 and LD767 on a flash drive and just download them to the reformated computer. I wrote down the product keys for both.Paul Gugs

Whoa there! $5,800 for an Alienware. Tell you what, give me $5,000 even and I will give you a box that will outperform the alienware across the board. I will even throw in a 40" flat screen and cinema surround system, all brand new, and you still save $800! If you can afford to waste it, I promise you I can spend it better. If you don't want the hassle of building your self (and it really is not much hassle) then buy a ready built from someone who knows what they are doing. I don't know who the US equivilent is, but overclockers.co.uk herewill sell you a cutting edge i7-2600K @4.6GHz with a pair of SLI'd GTX580's for £2,000.

I went to that web site and they charge $5200 for their top system. Ultima Carbon Intel Core i7 980X 3.33GHz @ 4.20GHz SLI DDR3 System £3213.80 inc VAT = $5200.The Alienware is a few hundred more but has better graphic cards and better ram. To build this system on you own will still cost you $4,500 in parts from a discount computer on-lone store like the one you quoted. BTW: I have seen ads for time on full motion simulators in shopping malls in the UK. http://www.virtualaviation.co.uk/fun/prices.html Has anyone you tried this?PaulPaul G

Which benchmarks do you think an i7 980x @ 4.2GHz will win over an i7 2600k @ 4.6GHz? Are they relevent to flightsim and will they win by enough to justify the three or four fold price difference?

Paul Smith.

This thread started with "New Computer Order" Did you ever get it in? and how does FSX run on it?

Runs great - 40+ FPS using the PMDG JS4100 in default scenery. I haven't installed any payware scenery yet.

Thats an awesome result! FTX it! LOL. An update to Coffs from Orbx in coming soon ;)

The 2600k will easily outperform the 980x in FSX
