Will PMDG enable me to buy and install the FSX 737?

Featured Replies

I really hope that Sawydz´s advice will work because otherwise I will have to ground the 737-fleet. Richard
So what you are saying is that you are prepared to miss out on what could the one of the best FSX addons ever that will give hundreds of hours of fun and learning, rather than spend a little time activating the product? Seriously????

Eeek. No real world weather, Richard? :( *Knock on wood* I've yet to ever have a virus of any sort for the 10 years I've been serious with PCs. To each his own! You'll have to wait for the boxed version!

As far as I know this would be illegal with my internet provider...Richard
They don't let you share your internet for what reason? It's not like you can get multiple internet lines into your house anyway...Cheers,Nick Jones

Okay, I don't mean to be rude, but this makes no sense. Put internet on your FS PC, get an antivirus, try online flying, and stop being scared of the internet!

An ISP can't even tell that you're using a router - that's the entire point of how it works. The router appears like a single computer as far as they can see. It's called Network Address Translation (NAT).
Well, they can tell that I´m using a router as soon as they come to my home to repair things. Incidentally only a few weeks ago they had to change my modem because it was not working correctly anymore (the modem is "part of the package" and belongs to the ISP). On the plus side: it is a very fast internet connection using fiberglass-cables...Richard

On the other hand: why doesn´t PMDG use an activation-process like most other companies and lets you transfer the licence-file from the internet-computer to the FS PC? This works very well and obviously is no security-hazard to the software-companies! I really don´t need internet on both of my PCs otherwise.Richard

Probably because unpleasent people will use that opertunity to provide multiples copies of PMDG software that does not need to be independently verified to their friends, and their friends friends, and their friends friends friends, and their friends friends friends friends, and all to satisfy someone who wants to do something in a way everyone else seems to think is odd.

You pay for one connection (line in to your house). How you distribute that within your house is entirely up to you. I know someone who, on one line-in, runs an router with 15 connections outwards. Otherwise everyone would have only ONE connection to the internet in their house, unless they paid for 15 different connections. And what about wireless? If multiple people weren't allowed to connect to wireless, the whole idea behind wireless would be moot. I could honestly swear you are living in 1996 if you're afraid putting in a splitter/router/whatever because it's "illegal." Point is: it's not, and you're not going to get a virus just from connecting your machine to the internet; it's not like there are viruses waiting at the entrance to your house for the moment you plug the ethernet cable in. You have nothing to worry about.Frank Grivel

This thread is getting beyond ridiculous, either Moonraker is winding us up or he is seriously paraniod for no reason. This is a non issue....

I have seen ISPs which restrict the use of routers. Time Warner Cable in southeast Ohio, USA did it as recently as 2003. They try to upsell you on their official home networking pack for an extra US$20/mo.But, it's one of those clauses in the contract that is, to the best of my knowledge, not regularly enforced. Like a law against cutting off mattress tags, or a fine for not shoveling snow from sidewalks, or chewing gum while walking backwards on a Thursday.Part of me applauds you for being consistent and following the letter of the contract. Heck, even reading the contract is probably something 90% of the people here haven't done. The other, larger part wants to slap you upside the head and say "get real."Steve Perry

I have visions of the ISP sending around a SWAT team looking for people using routers....In the US can you not buy USB dongles? http://www.mobilephone-deal.com/dongle/virgin/ you just plug it in, activate the product or download what you need then unplug.

In the real world people just download cracked versions (inspite even the most clever copy-protection) and are happy. But I guess you do not mean THAT real? :( I will withdraw myself from this thread now as I think nothing substantial can be said about this matter anymore and the tech-geeks become increasingly uneasy already... :( Richard
