January 20, 201115 yr Hypo,Look at what his system is, then look at what mine is. My system is nowhere near as fast and powerful as his, yet I get the same performance as him in a similar situation. What does that tell you?
January 20, 201115 yr I have done all Nick N's and the ******* teas and my frames are geneally 35-100. Sliders maxed. My MINIMUM frames fully loaded maxed the way I like are worse case 11-14 at JFK, LAX dusk with all add-ons, weather etc etc and 100% ui etc etc etc my systems crumbles on the low end with all the teaks, but overall frames are very flyable and smooth apart from the 1-2 times I am in the above scenario in urban araes Make sense? Just trying to get a higher oc to run add-on ac more comfortably in they ways I like as I have a buyer for my 920 parts and got a great deal on a 2600 4.8 oc package ok? Simon
January 21, 201115 yr You should realise that NO processor available for purchase at the moment can run FSX on absolute maximum settings with payware addons without falling to its knees. Thats why upgrading to an 1155 socket from a X58 is a very poor decision. I was on a sluggish 1156 system that couldnt be overclocked, hence my upgrade choice. I'll sell you my 1155 system with a 20% discount when 2011 comes out?
January 21, 201115 yr Anyways, I have done my reading and I know what I need system-wise for the add-ons I need, been doing this since the first version of FS on DOS on my Tandy in 1984. BTW, If you are at 4.8 now, 2011 may not be a worthwhile upgrade for you. lol. Who knows what speeds that will get to as FSX is written for clock speed not using multi cores all that well or efficiently. Thanks for the advice though. Enjoy your new system. Simon
January 21, 201115 yr Alex: doesn't matter what processor it is... people will always exceed their VRAM quota and have stutters and low FPS as a result... can't be helped but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to realize the GPU can't do anything when things aren't loaded into VRAM, So I do have hope.

Do you have data that indicates otherwise? Of course there will always be outliers, such as those that use triple monitors and force 8x SuperSampling, but these users are few and far between, even here.
January 29, 201115 yr Wow! My VRAM hit the 1GB mark for the first time the other day. Flying the PMDG 747 into ORBYX YBBN. MSI Afterburner reported VRAM usage at 1045 MB! Using 8xS AA at 1920x1200 with Dense AG/Ext Dense Scenery. Kyle Main Sim PC: P3D v5.2 & MSFS 2020, i9-10850k @ 5.0 GHz, ASUS Maximus XII Hero, ASUS TUF-RTX3080-12G, Dell U3011 30" IPS monitor, G.Skill 32GB 3200 Trident Z 14-14-14, Samsung 512GB 960 Pro NVMe (OS), Samsung 2TB 970 EVO NVMe (Sim), Win 10 Pro 64, Yoko Yoke, Saitex Combat Rudder Pedals, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant
January 29, 201115 yr Why do even people talk about running the sim below 25fps? If it drops below 27-28fps, I feel stuttering. 30fps is for me a must. In 747x or lds VC. I will lower the settings before doing crappy 15fps...We already know that no CPU will run fsx fully blown, at 30fps no matter what you throw at it :-)I tried my VC performance at various airports also payware ones. I have to keep my autogen at normal to have anything close to satisfying. Not even 2600k is going to change that...I can only DREAM of a frame rate above about 10! on my old system (AMD Dual core 2.3ghz) - running REX with a decent add on aircraft sees me with a framerate averaging about 4 to 8 FPS! Thats the best I get.Maybe one day I'll find the dough to upgrade to a SB processor - when the cheese 'n kisses stops complaining about how much time I spend in front of a time-wasting sim! Let alone get something approaching 25fps! Shee-iiit man gimmee a break I can only DREAM of 25fps. :Praying: As for 30fps or above? - whats that!? David Stewart, Dianella, Western Australia. New PC coming one day! | In the meantime I fly with; AMD X64 1.2Ghz Dual Core | 6Gb Ram | 6600GT | Old case | FSX | REX | Superbug FA-18F | Capt Sim 767 | ORBX Aust Scenery | Jandakot | PC12 & numerous others.

FSX is (in general mostly) a waste of time and especially money... it's like an infinite wishing well.

I'll sell you my 1155 system with a 20% discount when 2011 comes out? I agree with alex. FSX needs about a 6 Ghz for running at the maximun details with max traffic, big airport, heavy aircraft and others addon!!!!Maybe with the new SB @5ghz or a bit more with liquid cooling fsx will work well except some situations with bad wether or approaching at heay airports with lots of traffics around! Edoardo Paulicelli My fsx runs on: CPU:[email protected] (196*21) Mobo:Asus P6tDeluxeV2 RAM:Corsair 12Gb Video:Nvidia 580 GTX HDD:2 WD 130Gb + 1 Seagate barracuda 500Gb
February 1, 201115 yr 5 Ghz - 6, 7 or maybe 8?Actually I think it will never run totally fluid with no hickups, stutters, waits for this and that, etc. There will always be an issue, cause it's an unfinished product, the beancounters had their way...Enjoy what we have, careful with the sliders. Why people are obviously obsessed with 100% full sliders is beyond my understanding, it's crazy, it's like driving your car or bike at full speed all the time...
