X-Plane 10, End of the year ?

And what is wrong with that, after all it is a SIMULATION and how one choses to fly for pure enjoyment has no relevance. You may not understand or get excited about a 747, and thats perfectly ok. There is probably quite alot of guys out there that feel the same way, However your point is definately not valid by any means as your now talking about the flying habbits of simmers and not the capability of the aircraft ("equipment") which was the basis of your statement to begin with.

you are too funny .... point was about realism ... Flying a 747 from KDET to KORD is not realism. So folks post here all the time about realism, and yet they fire up a 747 for a 30min flight the never happens.

So we are down to 30 mins now. 8 hours minimum. Ok.. I will let you tell the pilots that they have to fly around Australia a few times now because you say that for this "equipment" to be "realistic" and for them to feel the most "realism" they have no choice but to fly for 8 hours. LMAO.gif

what are you talking about? .. i said the ppl use the 747 for a 30 min flight when most 747 RL flights are 8+ hrs.
LOL.gif There was a time, before I had to manage the WAF, where I made a lot of long-haul flights during 12 or 14 hours, real time, on IVAO.But where's the realism if I'm alone in a cockpit that is designed for 2 or 3 pilots ? :( Where's the realism if I eat something that tastes a lot better than any lunch taken in a plane ?

Actually there are a few short haul 744 flights from Atlanta. Most to O'Hara, and one each to Houston, and Dallas. All from different airlines (Some cargo). I'm sure there are a few others at other major hubs. So while it's rare it's not unheard of. http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KATL/departures/airline?;offset=13240;order=aircrafttype;sort=DESC http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KATL/departures/airline?;offset=13280;order=aircrafttype;sort=DESC http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KATL/departures/airline?;offset=13320;order=aircrafttype;sort=DESC

wink.png Where's the problem ? Of course the 747 was designed for long-haul flights, but there's no obligation to operate long-haul flights. Japan Airlines also uses the 747 on short-haul flights. They even use a 747-400 version without winglets:http://goo.gl/h7fMJhttp://forum.avsim.net/topic/181404-japanese-747-400-domestic-flights-or-short-haul-747-400/

I once did a trip from LA to Sydney in the Duchess in X Plane.Island hopping all the way on different days.Whistle.gif

In a earlier post, I did recognize that probably less than 1% of flights might use a 747 on a short haul. Again, the entire point was that most of the people posting in the PMDG forum are talking about realism and wanting to fly RW aircraft and routes, but, they will fire up a 747 for a 30min non RW flight ..
fly a1hour flight in a 747you have to be on at least a 8hr or more for use of this equipment to be realistic.
Some snippets from your post above. Their was no mention of PMDG or RW routes or legs, just a blunt, inaccurate statement about an aircraft type which was later debunked. What your talking about now is another subject all together and one that was never made apparent in your original post.

That sounds like a lot of Fun!! Bet it took some good planning?

A little. I cheated a bit. I had to find the airports but I used the Garmin430 and a few "Direct To"'s. I remember reading about a couple of guys doing it in a C172 when they had to deliver it to Bankstown.

You cant take snippets to prove you point .. without providing context ... Again, the entire point was that most of the people posting in the PMDG forum are talking about realism and wanting to fly RW aircraft and routes, but, they will fire up a 747 for a 30min non RW flight ..

If you look at my videos, you'll see I generally use real world flights and flight plans for them, obtained from FlightAware. Including long haul 744 flights. I would have no problem though flying any of the short haul flights I have posted, or similar. I agree :30 min is a bit short, but 1.5 to 3 hour flights though rare today still exists. During the 70's, 80's and the beginning of the 90's short haul 747 flights were a little more frequent (Though still would be considered rare) then they are today. For example I have flown a 747-200 from JFK to O'hare, and also to Boston back in the 80's. Just because there are few of them, doesn't make them unrealistic.

Thanks

my point is that most don't find/cant find those short haul routes and just fly any route ... it would have been better to have purchased any other active Boeing aircraft (other than the 747) for complete flexibility for RW routes.
