Acclaim-Classics P-51D Part 1 & 2 by Warbirdsim

Featured Replies

Hi people!...I felt compelled to start a topic about this airplane... As you may see in my signature I'm the owner of a lot of addons buy I think this is the one that deserves a prize... I purchased both parts 2 days ago and I already have around 10+ hours in it... Everything is perfect... the VC... engine sound (including the classic whistle)... flight dynamics... textures... details... details... and more details... I've never been a warbird fan and even less a mustang fan in real life and in simulation... but... when you are behind the controls of this airplane is like been in the cockpit for real... It's very difficult for me to fly another airplane now in FSX... If you are planning to get this airplane I suggest to get also UK2000 VFR Airlfields Vol 1, 2 & 3 because they include every airport from the middle to the south of England... including Gatwick and Heathrow... and airshows airfields like Duxford and Shoreham... I also recommend to have a complete set of controls (joystick, throttle and pedals) to get the maximun experience from this addon...Check this webpage and look for the videos... Ferocious Frankie is included in the pack in breathtaking detail...http://www.ferociousfrankie.com/Dexter

Couldn't agree more.I just purchased the P-51D Part 2 pack the other night myself. In a word, phenomenal. The modeling is amazing. The amount of detail put into the aircraft is crazy. I love the VC and the sounds are great. No complaints whatsoever.

What's the difference between Parts 1 & 2, Dexter? It says "most switches are clickable.." "as detailed in the manual" - does that imply that those that work i.e. 'click' are all functional, too? Does this aircraft have the same built-in realism as the A2A AccuSim products? i.e can the engine be overheated? Does the engine require priming to get it started? Will it still start if I don't prime it? Like this one here:-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGwfKzAFEOQ

Part 1 have 7 unique models and Part 2 have 8 unique models... Yes... every airplane is a different model... they are NOT the same model with different repaints... Regarding the realism examples... I'm not sure... I'm too busy doing aerobatics... :( Dexter...

A2A are unbeatable, period. But Warbirdsim P-51's are great to.They are two diferent kind of approaches, A2A makes period aircrafts and Warbirdsim makes actual ones, as they fly today. Unfortunatly without accu-sim.Both have great visual models, textures, sounds and I believe great flight dynamics.I have only part 1 and no complains.

In all seriousness that signature is just obnoxious... With people coming in from mobile devices and different form factors having to scroll through your novel of a signature is just ridiculous... You should pay Avsim bandwidth for that thing...

Have a Wonderful Day

Well.... Dang! I know that, Dexter; I read all you've written, over at their site, but all they show is history, screenshots, and how great it is. There's nothing technically meaningful there. I want to know if the operating switches do something more than 'click'. I want to know that I have to work at starting this thing, or just push one button and it starts? Will it start without the fuel booster pump being on? Can I overprime it? Can I cage the Artificial Horizon? Is there a change in the oil and cooling temps as you open or close their respective radiator doors? Does the control lock work? For $45 this is what I need - not a run of the mill "looks fantastic - sounds fantastic - best ever" BS description.

It's not as realistic as A2A stuff, not even close concerning immersion and operational requirements. It's just a very good and well made model/VC, with very good looking textures, very good sound, maybe a very good flight dynamics (I'm not real pilot...) and a bit of valuable research and care.If you like me are a hardcore simmer, it's not for you for sure.But...sometimes I like to just Ctrl+E and have some fun and this P-51 is my choice.I've spent much more than $45 with other descontrutive things throughout my life lol.

You should give the A2A Spitfire with Accu-sim package a try if you really want to feel like you are in the real thing. I bet it would change your view on this P-51D. And when A2A releases their P-51D, I am sure it will far surpass the Acclaim-Classics version in realism and immersion. After viewing the photos of the Acclaim-Classics P-51, in my opinion the textures and VC of the A2A Spitfire Accu-sim look superior and are more realistic in appearance.

Shane Gavin

Well, I´ll maybe get their P-51 B and C models and the P-51D from A2A when it´s out. I like the P-51 since I´ve discovered them in IL-2. I do never fly any othjer airplanes there.

Best regards, Steffen

Totally agree, Shane: there's nothing that I know of, that matches the A2A Jug or the Spit for realism and immersion. I've sat in a couple of Spits, been on a Mossie engine run, and have a couple of hundred hours in Chippies, with some Piston Provost, etc., - and A2A have absolutely captured the interior of a fairly-worn British military aircraft. From the P51 screenshots it's my feeling that they are too much "graphically created', and look somewhat artificial, 'painted', whereas the Spit or the Jug's skins & rivets look like a photograph of the real thing. It's too bad, and so I think I'll pass on it. I was almost persuaded! Many Thanks for the replies, guys.

Warbirdsim airplanes are one thing and A2A airplanes are a different kind... You can't compare apples with oranges... Is the same story as we all compare PMDG and Level-D with other products... In real life I'm an airline pilot with a tight schedule (around 7 days free per month) and I don't want to spend 2 or 3 days mastering every system in that plane or spending 5 minutes starting the engine because I've forgot to prime, switch on the fuel boost pump, something is broken inside the engine or whatever other reason because for me is a waste of time... That is the main reason I don't spend money in A2A products... because they focus in all that... The Warbirdsim airplane is focused in the joy of flying a warbird with the maximum amount of visual detail, immersive sound and realistic flight dynamics... Regarding the questions... Yes.. you can cage the AH... Yes... Oil temp goes up if you keep the radiator closed at high rpm and low airspeed... Yes... it has a working primer and fuel boost pump switch (I don't know if they work like in real life because the manual doesn't cover all that info)... You can even release main gear fairing door... This post is for the people that like this airplane... not to stab to death a really good product with technical stuff that it may or may not have...Dexter

Yes, I like the Spit, but these days I found myself enjoying the Jug again, that's a truck! Love that plane! Also the B-17, my favorite. All A2A add-ons are masterpiece and accu-sim ones are the most real thing you can get in FS. Can't wait for their P51.
