Worth upgrading to trackir 5 pro ?

Featured Replies

I have been using trackir 4 pro (w/ vector clip) for the longest time and was wondering if it would be worth for me to purchase track ir 5 pro with track clip pro ?I have been reading up on this but i still not sure if I should go ahead and buy it so I thought I'd ask you...All info/tips and all that appreciated :)Vic

They made TIR4 so good, upgrading I think is not worth the trouble. Just use the TIR5 software.Bjorn

I certainly wouldn't recommend you update just to use the track clip pro as its a step backwards in usability in my experience coming from a Track-IR 3. The track clip pro has some dead spots when the top two emitters overlap one another in certain positions as seen from the receiver, this is because the three emitters are aligned vertically (top two closer together than the lower one) rather than having two at the bottom and the third in the centre and above. The new vector clip included with the TIR 5 is better though, the reflectors are positioned exactly the same as the earlier models but are more circular in appearance horizontally and this helps tracking at the extremes of head movement. If you have problems with the TIR 3 or 4 in a brightly lit room then the track clip pro may be an improvement with the TIR 5, one thing I really dont like about it though is that it has a cable connecting it to the receiver, why they couldnt make it wireless I have no idea, I much prefer using the Vector Clip its much more comfortable to use.The tracking abilities and smoothness of the 5 over the 3 are vastly improved though and I would definitely recommend the Track-IR 5 to 3 owners especially if you have no problems with tracking due to bright lights in the room as this would allow you to use the superior tracking abilities of the vector clip.

Cheers, Andy.

I have track ir 4 not 3 and I don't want to update to vs 5 just for the track clip pro. I read lots of opinions around it appears that track 5 pro offers a better sim experience. Many opinions are from the naturalpoint forums tho so maybe they were/are biased. Some ppl say track clip pro is good too. Decision decisions :)ThanksVic

I own TIR 5 pro and found the clip to me more precise than wearing the hat. Just another opinion though.

Regardless of what they say over at the Naturalpoint forums the design of the Track Clip Pro is fundamentally flawed, as I pointed out before there are dead spots in certain areas of the head tracking where one emitter overlays another and your head or headset itself can get in the way too, this simply makes the view point pause when your head is in this position, there is no such problem with the vector clip when attached to a cap and best of all it has no wire trailing across the room.

Cheers, Andy.

TIR4 here, with the clip and stupid hat, Vic. I use the v5 software and have no issues whatsoever EXCEPT that - when shutting down - it still very often hangs. This has been brought up dozens of times on their forum, and there have been no fixes (that I'm aware of) to date; one then has to launch the Task Manager to kill the process. It's been going on so long that I don't bother checking the web site any more... Whining a bit, yes, but I wouldn't fly without it! This one product, combined with the VC puts me in the cockpit.

I'd say the physical design of the clip has some flaws, like being too flimsy, so one must be gentle. But I haven't noticed any problems with it regarding dead spots compared to my time with the hat. I do place the receiver on the left side of my monitor whereas most people put it in the middle. I also sit about 4 inches lower than the receiver and approx 1.5 ft from it. The wires aren't a problem anymore because I have a headset wire to begin with. They used to get tangled but now I just have a spot for it on the wall and make sure I don't twist it too many times.

I have Track IR Pro 5 but don't use it very much because it makes me feel sick in FSX!How do you stop it bobbing up and down in the cockpit. It looks very unrealistic. I want to look left/right and up/down but don't want my "body" floating up and down!Any ideas? Is it the Y axis I need to reduce?Adam

Not sure if this will solve your problem Adam, but I changed these lines in the fsx.cfg://[DynamicHeadMovement]//LonAccelOnHeadLon=-0.020000//LonAccelOnHeadPitch=-0.010000//RollAccelOnHeadLat=0.010000//YawAccelOnHeadLat=-0.100000//RollAccelOnHeadRoll=0.100000//MaxHeadAngle=5.000000//MaxHeadOffset=0.300000//HeadMoveTimeConstant=1.000000To these lines:[DynamicHeadMovement]LonAccelOnHeadLon=-0.000000LonAccelOnHeadPitch=-0.000000RollAccelOnHeadLat=0.000000YawAccelOnHeadLat=-0.000000RollAccelOnHeadRoll=0.000000MaxHeadAngle=0.000000MaxHeadOffset=0.000000HeadMoveTimeConstant=0.000000IAN

The default profiles are horrid, agreed they made me sick too at first. You need to go to the forums, and find a profile called "Seth- Flight." You should be able to find it in the subforum called "profiles." It was a completely different piece of hardware after I installed that profile.

First off, thank you all for your input.Would you say that, overall trackir 5 pro is an improvement over trackir 4 ? overall ?ThanksVic

I use TIR 4 but got a problem when looking to the pedestal, even on adjust the courve Pitch and Yaw wich looks perfetc in TIR software V5 but FSX I can't menage to looking at, but I also use EZCA wich is not completly perferct integration IHMO.

Hi m8 thanks I have the Seth Flight profile - it certainly does make things smoother but the problem I have is rather like someone raising and lowering the seat while I'm trying to fly/land. Is there anyway to reduce the sensitivity or switch OFF this axis (I think its the Y axis not sure). It's making me nauseous floating around the cockpit like a fish!
