I figured out how to get rid of some of those anoying text boxes from the screen and adjusted some of the settings to get it to run better, so I thought I try a few more shots. Its really a nice looking sim, just needs a few patches to iron out some issues.Rob

Fantastic shots Rob,It looks like you tamed this BEAST of a Sim. I have terrible stutters and can't get any AA to work in game.Great to hear it's working for you!Cheers!!

nice shots! But I experience the same issues as Patrick is. I have been trying to make it run better over the weekend but no succes. So I've shelfed this one until patched. The potential is great, however.

Thanks, ALthough I wouldnt say ive tammed it. Only a few patchs will do that. There are still some occasional annoying stutters. The sim is far from optimised. But it is at least playable on my system. Im having fun just sightseeing around europe right now. Havent done too much actual dogfighting yet.Rob

Nice shots.Nebojsa

Alright guys, and anyone care to share a hint what BEAST of a sim we're talking about here? I'm most certainly not into the militaries. The text readings eventually remind me of IL-2, but I cannot seem to remember IL-2 had a "look" like this otherwise. :(

Agreed. The 3D plays one part, but I feel the incredible self-shadowing really adds that big last bit. One killer shot to say the least. Big%20Grin.gif

Cliffs of Dover is a sequel to IL2. Oleg Maddox, the creator of IL2 is also the creator of this one. I heard he stepped down at some point for personal reasons, but thats all speculation. This game is not based on the old IL2 code, but rather a completly new sim from the ground up. Because of that, there are a lot of teehing problems right now and only those with a core I7 seem to be getting good enough performance to run it. I am running an I7(overclocked) and these shots are all on medium to low settings, since that is the only way it will run right now. The developers promise a patch this week to fix some of the performance issues. They believe the buildings and trees to be the biggest culprits. Anyhow, even on meduim settings, it looks great and runs pretty good to. Ive not had any CTD's or blue screens with it. It is a lot of fun but when you have a large bomber formation over London it becomes a slide show. Simmular issues to when FSX first came out. There isnt a computer available that will run it at full settings.Rob

Wow, guess I then even didn't get your thread title haha. :( Now it all makes a lot of sense. So I wasn't too wrong with IL-2. Thanks for all the info anyways! Big%20Grin.gif

Really looks amazing, Rob, but I think I'll give this one a pass until a few patches are out (and I upgrade my hardware). Doesn't sound like it has much of a campaign just yet.

As much as I like this game, Id have to say thats a wise choice. Its still full of bugs and optimization issues. However, it will be a great sim somewhere down the line. Just not yet.Rob

For all the non-military sim folks... IL-2 and now Cliffs of Dover are WWII simulations OVER just a "flying sim". If you don't like ACM, just fly the planes around. The developers have put painstaking detail into ALL aspects of the sim to give you a flying experience far more real than FSX and its addons. You don't need to shoot 1 thing to enjoy its realism. I've been siming for 30 years and can tell you there's never been anything like IL-2 CoD before or after. Any sim by Oleg Maddox is a must have for anyone that does sims...

Caveman, that can be said for the entire IL-2 series, period. From a flying simulation aspect IL-2 was the best "sim" ever made even still. I'm sure this latest edition is even better....
