Personally, I think he should have been allowed to wear his RAF blues - which he's really earned - instead of that ridiculous chocolate soldier outfit..
Allowed? Ian, it was his choice to wear the uniform of the Irish Guards. He and his brother are commissioned officers in all branches of service after all...Granted, everyone expected him to wear the RAF dress mess uniform, but it really was his choice!

Ah, I see. I didn't know that.That's me assuming.... :( ThanksIan

Actually, the choice of the Irish Guards outfit was a bit of politics, but I agree nonetheless, I think he'd have looked a better in the RAF outfit. Even I look alright in a RAF outfit LOLAl

Possibly it was, Al. But honestly I think it was a terrific bit of theater as well. Let's be honest here, which uniform looks "more regal and resplendent?" :( According to what I've read elsewhere, his first inclination was to wear a simple gray suit. :(

The Prince's grandfather, then Duke of York & later King George VI, wore RAF full dress uniform at his wedding in 1923. It wouldn't have been "more regal and resplendent" I can't remember ever seeing it worn.

The RAF service dress of that era was certainly more "regal and resplendent" than the current incarnation of the RAF service dress. It's not a bad uniform, but it is rather bland and uninteresting!Note that he's wearing the same skyblue sash and medal for Order of the Garter, the same Jubilee medal, and white gloves as on the day of his wedding.

The sound of all those Merlins sure sounded sweet, even on TV! They should have included a P-51B Mustang (In RAF colors of course) That would have been a great shot!! If it wasn't for the Brits the Mustang, may never have been developed, and certainly not with the Merlin, (Which was the essential component that made the Mustang what it was, as it did for the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane) as the Americans showed no interest at the time. Had that happened, the war may have turned out differently then it did, it certainly would have resulted in more casualties and most likely prolonged it at least, as we would have lost more bomber planes and crews.

Thanks

Tom
