Best C172 for FSX?

We try to avoid hinting at release dates because it would be unfair to promote anticipation when so many things can cause delays. But I can say that things are progressing well.

Thanks for the update, Rob.

When most of a new product can be classified as a "research project" where you think something may be possible, but don't know for sure, it's impossible to make any kind of projections. This is pretty much how it works when you are working on things that haven't been done before. I suspect a lot of that is involved in your aircraft.

One of my favorite programming contracts involved such a research project on a Z-80 based device driver for a hand held terminal. The company business owner thought it was impossible while the technical owner thought it could be done. Since they were 50/50 partnership, the politics were interesting. In the end I had every phase of the device driver working as planned, but there was obviously no way to project how long it would take. Fond memories.

Yeah backup the .air and aircraft.cfg files then simply overwrite the default ones with the Realair versions.

You can just cut 'n' paste the RA cfg/air files into the C172 folder, Manny: just need to keep the old cfg so that you can copy over the [fltsim.xxx]sections afterwards. I did this, then used the SonicSolutions C172 sounds, and sh'e now a pretty decent aircraft - especially for playing IFR. I'd like to find some freeware Garmin addons, though. Can anyone recommend any?

Hi Paul

Any chance you can give me a step by step?

Did you rename the Panel.cfg and Air files or just pop them in the folder?

Thanks

Andrew

Cheesh, Andrew - you drag up a two-year-old post and expect me to remember how I modified the default Cessna!! Pretty optimistic!!! I barely remember what I had for breakfast today!

OK..

1). Just need to keep the old cfg  .... so - copy/paste both the Cessna172SP.air and the aircraft.cfg into the same folder. Rename them as "ORI_airfile.txt" and  "ORI_aircraft_cfg.txt", or something like that.

2). You can just cut 'n' paste the RA cfg/air files into the C172 folder, ... so - copy the RA aircraft.cfg and the RealAirSimulationsC172SP.air files from the RA C172 into the default C172 folder.

3). copy over the [fltsim.xxx]sections.  Open the aircraft.cfg file that you've just copied, and delete all of the [Fltsim.xx] sections complete. Then, open up the ORI_aircraft_cfg.txt file, and copy all of the [Flysim.xx] sections into the new aircraft.cfg.

4). Next go to each of the [Fltsim] sections in the new aircraft.cfg, and change the "sim=Cessna172SP" to read "sim=RealAirSimulationsC172SP", (as you'll now be using the RA air file).

5).  then used the SonicSolutions C172 sounds.  Purchase and install the Sonic Solutions Sound Pack, following their instructions.

Did you rename the Panel.cfg? No, the change doesn't affect the Panel.

and Air files or just pop them in the folder?  See above!

I hope this is more understandable!

All the Best,

pj
