Best C172 for FSX?

Featured Replies

That's excellent. Would it be possible for us who have the Reality XP suites to get a copy of your panel config? I'd really like to do my 182 up like yours. thanks!

The other stuff like the A/P and various gauges will not work unless you have those add-ons installed as I do. I can give you a copy of my panel.cfg and you can see what works and what does not work and go from there. I modified all the screens.

It sure makes a big difference in the texture views. I have never been a fan of the blurry, overreflective gauges and milky windows. I like mine looking like it just came out of the paint shop or in this case just out of the avionics shop.

This is one of the few models that you can do most anything with the panel in the VC - and I did.

Shoot me a PM and give me your name and an email address and I will send you a copy of my panel.cfg file.

Here is a screenshot of the 2d panel.

You can just cut 'n' paste the RA cfg/air files into the C172 folder, Manny: just need to keep the old cfg so that you can copy over the [fltsim.xxx]sections afterwards. I did this, then used the SonicSolutions C172 sounds, and sh'e now a pretty decent aircraft - especially for playing IFR. I'd like to find some freeware Garmin addons, though. Can anyone recommend any?

I added this garmin 296 from SimFlyer, it's freeware now. Other than that sorry not much help.

This may be one of the most realistic flying models in FSX.

I have to agree. Probably one of the best intro airplanes to flying in FSX and so interesting to fly. Procedures are pretty rock-solid. I'd love to see Carenado get back to its roots of great GA airplanes and work on a V2 this one.

  • Better gauges
  • Natural integration of RealityXP
  • 3D sound
  • Rock-solid ability to follow a RW C182 checklist.
  • Realistic failures.
  • A walk-around
  • Better integration with advanced hardware (not that it's bad now)

It may be a pipe dream. Honestly, though, these are the things I'd want with ANY new airplane (with the obvious addition of a solid FDE and all working avionics). I probably won't even consider an airplane that doesn't have LINDA support.

EDIT: I'll add this. I remember about the 3rd time I flew the RealAir Legacy...when I finally had an idea what I was doing. I had a feeling of being free to fly...just fly. That's how I like this C182. I remember flying it out of a valley and turning toward my home airport and just feeling it. Some small sliding in the air...the old memories of the real airplane coming up out of my mind. Yeah. Like that.

Hang on for the RealAir 172. It may be the most realistic Cessna around for a while. They may even make a 182 eventually. I hear A2A Simulations are also working on a C172. Could be interesting.

Adding all the newer gauges sure improved the looks of my Carenado 182Q panel though.

I check RealAir's website every couple of weeks...LOL. I've been thinking of getting the RealityXP gauges but I'm not sure how to integrate them. Really would like a fully functional airspeed indicator and smooooth gauges. What are the gauges you added?

The 182Q is a great airplane for panel mods, and it does fly great with the updated airfile..

I enjoy it more than the G1000 equipped C182T!

I totally agree. I botched (bounced) a landing in the Legacy yesterday and the feeling of immersion was incredible.

It's funny, isn't it? I mean, there are all those airplanes out there and yet this little gem has me captivated.

LOL.

I got 2 hours of rw flight time in a Cessna 182T G1000 yesterday. Finished it off with an ILS into KGPT. All this simulator flying paid off big time. AvGas is $7.13/gal at Million Air. Ouch.

By no means I want to underestimate Carenado's C182Q since I've not flown it yet. But the figures are... stubborn things, you know. I'm used to "fly by the book" experience, so the first thing I did was to check some figures in both the air file and aircraft.cfg. To my surprise:

[fuel]

LeftMain = -4.63, -2, 2.5, 28, 2.5

RightMain = -4.63, 2, 2.5, 28, 2.5

//Total usable fuel: 56 gals

//Total unusable fuel: 5 gals

//TOTAL: 61 gals

Below is an excerpt from the original POH for a standard Q-model. Numbers for the long-range model also differ from POH values: 80 gals in total :huh: I didn't check the rest of parameters yet but with these self-explanatory fuel numbers I now wonder - to what extent the model is close to a real thing?!?

Has RealAir even hinted at a release date for their C172?

Nope, silence.

Well Efraln, at least now you understand why people keep asking about the 777. :D

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

For some unknown reason I cannot edit my own post above. So, please disregard it since I've verified the figures against FAA Type Certificate 3A13 Rev.70, p.14 - the fuel figures used by Carenado are correct!

Sorry for inconveniences, if any!
