Best C172 for FSX?

Featured Replies

So... if 75% power requires 100% throttle, then how do I ever get 100% power?
You can't get 100% power at 8,000ft with a normally aspirated (non-turbo-charged) engine. Power is a function of manifold-pressure, and RPM. On a standard day (atmospheric pressure = 29.92" ), the maximum available manifold pressure at sea-level (normally aspirated) is of course 29.92" .. and it decreases by aproximately 1.0" / 1000ft of altitude.. so at 8,000ft a wide-open throttle will only get you about, 21.0" of manifold pressure.
"At full throttle, the turbocharger has the capability of maintaining the maximum continuous manifold pressure of 32 in.hg. to 20,000 feet[...]"So now I would assume further that full throttle would give me those maximum HP.But you're saying this isn't necessarily so?
A C182T not only has a constant-speed prop (a discussion unto itself), it has a turbo-charger that can maintain manifold pressure HIGHER than atmospheric, even up to 20,000ft.

It seems this website is dead now :-/ Could you please send me Metzgers Cessna addon or write me an alternative link. Can not find it anywhere :-/ Thank you,

This is what I did......seems pretty good to me and I have a fair few hours on a C172.
We use the the Real Air SImulations 172 for basic training on our club PC trainer. It works well in FSX and has an accurate flight model with spinning and side-slipping programmed as wellhttp://www.realairsi...?page=downloads
This is the best solution. Though I was under the impression this was FS9 only? I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it in FSX.http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?FileName=ras172_fs9.zip

I use the RealAir file at the moment... I think its a 180HP? It seems a bit better than the Metzger file...IF you want the Metzger file I found it on my HDD and have uploaded it to my skydrive:https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=408ca931940d5e3c&resid=408CA931940D5E3C!150&parid=408CA931940D5E3C!121

Flight 172 is real good...eye candy.. but it doesn't have the 180hp engine. Too bad. and they never bothered updating it with one. You would have thought that was one low handing fruit for them.Go figure!I mean flight 1's cessna 172

I *think* they may be doing a 172SP G1000 FSX rendition at some point... can't recall if a developer wrote that over at simforums...

I forgot how to install the FS9 airplane in FSX. Do you just copy the files in to where they are supposed to go?

You can just cut 'n' paste the RA cfg/air files into the C172 folder, Manny: just need to keep the old cfg so that you can copy over the [fltsim.xxx]sections afterwards. I did this, then used the SonicSolutions C172 sounds, and sh'e now a pretty decent aircraft - especially for playing IFR. I'd like to find some freeware Garmin addons, though. Can anyone recommend any?

I don't know of any, unfortunately. The RealityXP box is the only realistic alternative.

Thanks muchly, Ranger: I pulled them down three or four days ago, but haven't opened them up yet. I picked up the Carenado 172N this evening, and it looks like it's going to get an upgrade! No glideslope! No A/P! :(

Hi ! I encountered your post by accident, while searching for reviews on the Flight1 Cessna 170r (payware). The behavior of the default FSX Cessna 170SP has been way too irrational (though I do not have any real flying experience, yet, to comment authoritatively) that I had been pretty dejected. I tried your suggestion with a mild level of faith at best, especially since this seemed to be configured for FS9 (per the instructions at the site). But it has been such a pleasant surprise ever since. Not only that the elevator, aileron and rudder responses are the way I (intuitively) feel they should be, even the ground steering is far more sensible now (I guess that is a side effect of the desensitization of the rudder axis). My Cessna flies beautifully now. And I cannot thank you with any number of words !!! Ravi Yes, absolutely ! I just tried it, and it is fantastic. See my response to the original poster. Ravi

Thanks for the link, the old 172 had serious issues, this on is perfect

Just FYI:

Real Air is going to be working on a C172 as many of us would know from flight schools, ie old school, analogue and so on, I guess they'll place a GNS430 in there as well, and I hope a RXP fix as well... once their Lancair is out...
