May 15, 201115 yr Looking at the NGX video on the dark cockpit and in particular the FMS, I observed a "Maintenance" page, in the failures sub-menu of the FMS. I also observed that Ryan "missed" to click on it. I immediately started imagining about a failure mode based on the aircraft cycles/hours. This would be feasible using the λ - lamda in CS-25 and AMCs (or FAR-25 on the other shore of the pond), whereby the probability of a failure for every system increases by time (in very simple terms). Depending on system certification specifications this probability value may vary. Their combination gives a reliable fail-safe aircraft. Since this could be calculated, thus simulated, and PMDG have a passion for setting the bar high up, I was wondering if PMDG is also going to provide some sort of maintenance related failure mode on a similar hypothesis. I would also like to take this opportunity to ask about the printed 737 manuals. I haven't ordered them yet of course, as there was no release date on the horizon in December. Now release is somewhere in the relatively-near future. Since the manuals are already 6 months old, will the manuals be updated to reflect any changes done to the final product i.e. the parts referring to software capabilities? Should we wait for an updated version before ordering? Will there be a bundle available for printed and electronic manuals ( I believe the e-manuals will have a cost)? The NGX looks like it will not just be a great product but rather the product of great passion, dedication and creativity unseen before in the FS community. That's all I have to say. I save the congrats for release. Elias / Ilias Pyette
May 15, 201115 yr PMDG has cofirmed quite some time ago that there will be aircraft/airframe aging with maintenance required to keep it in tip top shape. However it is optional I believe. Jay Vorkapic
May 15, 201115 yr Moderator PMDG has cofirmed quite some time ago that there will be aircraft/airframe aging with maintenance required to keep it in tip top shape. However it is optional I believe.I thought they confirmed exactly the opposite that there will be NO aircraft/airframe aging with maintenance required and it wont be an option.Failures YES, aging No. I could however be wrong since there have been so many posts to read in the past week, but I am pretty sure thats what Ryan said.Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

Have you ever seen the maintenance manuals for an NG? This would be an extremely time consuming endeavor that would be outside of the interest of most of our customers.Regards
May 15, 201115 yr So, if it's not about aging (cycles, hours of flight, etc.) what can that be??? :( I think this is one of that stuff Randazzo said we'll have to find out by ourselves. We are going to begin rolling out some really interesting updates that should give you an idea just how wonderful the PMDG 737 NGX really is [...] also providing a level of depth that is simply un-matched by any product ever released for FSX.We are also going to leave a few things un-announced- in order to surprise you on release day... May 15, 201115 yr Well, the failiure system is something they seemed to be quite high on, and that it will be quite the step up from ones we have seen in the past and on other products, so there is some new aspect to this that PMDG thinks will blow us away, and thus, keeping with the mantra of saving the best for last, has decided this will be one of those things we will have to see for ourselves. Maybe there is really no good way to put it into words, you have to see it to believe it. That is what I think we are seeing withe the 'liner options. So many options and configurations that it is best that we just see it for ourselves rather than a post about it. Although I wouldn't mind PMDG trying to show it off in a post mind you... May 15, 201115 yr Commercial Member I recently bought the new Katana from Aerosoft which has a very robust maintenance system. It's actually very fun and adds a whole new dimension to my GA flying. You literally have to check fluid etc every flight and there are abut 10 different systems that need maintaining (such as tires, tire pressure, fuel filters etc) plus another ten or so systems that can fail from abuse or just randomly. http://www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/us/iboshop.cgi?showd,,D11388An airliner has way too many things to simulate them all but it's awesome to hear the NGX will have something like this. You forget all those little things after not having flown GA for quite a few years.... Rónán O Cadhain.
May 15, 201115 yr Captains, my mistake. This product is exeeding even my own expectations lol. There will be a maintenance module included along with a failures module.Great. Was sort of disappointed when you first mentionend there'd be no maintemance mode. Now, this is really great news. May 15, 201115 yr The Katana is really cool. Adds a new aspect to FSX that I have never seen before. The checks, fluids, repairing or replacing things, and even keeping the aircraft clean. And a fun plane to fly. May 16, 201115 yr Commercial Member By the way Scott, it was your review that made me buy it, thanks! Noah Bryant
May 16, 201115 yr Robert had mentioned some time ago that there would be cyclic and hour based aging at some point on the NGX. Whether it is released with the product, or done in an update he said would depend on whether it fits the release schedule or not. Was mentioned before though. Curious to see how it works, and interacts with the bird. Robert and them are fans of A2A's Accu-sim work (as am I) so I imagine they set the bar pretty high with it. Hopefully we shall see soon enough. Steve Jordan Aviation Structural Mechanic SH-60B/HH-60H/MH-60R/MH-60S USN FSX Hours: 3000 and counting
