Hello,I have been using FS9 for a really long time. With my current setup, I ran FS9 with a ton of addons: complex plane Ifly,737, PMDG 747, sceneries, meshes, weather, radar contact, full World of AI at 100% at over 50FPS.A couple of years ago I bought FSX Deluxe edition, and I was not very satisfied with FPS, as compared to what I was getting on FS9. Now, since I have a faster machine ( I7 930 over-clocked at 4.00, Nvidia GX470, 12 MB of RAM, and a Velociraptor FS dedicated HDD, all running in Windows 7 64 bit OS)I wanted to give FSX another try. I have read there is a Gold edition, do I need that? I fon't care for the extra sceneries, planes, races etc, but I read it comes with an acceleration pack. Do I need that, to make my FSX run faster? Or by downloading SP1 and SP2 for FSX Deluxe I am accomplishing the same? What do I need to do to have the best and faster in (terms of FPS) configuration in FSX. Should I use the large memory address patch I used in FS9?ThanksJuan

FSX + SP1 and SP2 (free) will give you what you want.

In addition to what Bert said, I would follow NickN's guide in the Simforums/GEX forum when you install to get it set up properly.

+1!FSX Gold edition is nothing but FSX Deluxe + Aceleration DVD sets bundled together in a single plastic case. The good news is you don't really need Acceleration because essentially Acceleration is the free SP2 plus some aircraft (F-18 Hornet, Mustang P-51D Racer) plus multi-player Air Racing and some new sceneries (Berlin, Istanbul, Cape Canaveral and Edwards Air Force Base at 60 cm/pix), plus the engine part of the sim also models piston-engine engine turbos (this could be important for some add-ons!). If you don't care for the extras, SP2 will do just fine. The other good news is if you care for the Acceleration extras, FSX Gold goes for $30 these days (A steal of a deal if you don't have FSX Deluxe).Cheers,- jahman.

Hi Juan,You can install FSX (regular or pro) then SP1 then SP2 In that order.OrYou can install FSX then Acceleration, in that order, no need for patching.OrInstall Gold in a similar fashion to FSX+A, It’s the same when installed. You basically get a couple of planes + chopper and a load of missions with Acceleration. On the top computers today (running default settings) with regard to performance:Depending on what you do; Run with all graphics settings at max, you should get 50-70fps in the sky. Around airports and high density built up areas, down to 10-30fps.You have two options, limit the frame rate or let run unlimited. In limited mode FSX will keep building a sequence of frames ready to be used when some other processing is needed. Buffer pool can often be adjusted in the gpu control panel program. When in limited mode, if the fps drops below the limit and the frame buffer runs out then it’s the same now as unlimited until the buffer can catch up. So there’s no use setting 30fps and only seeing that occasionally. You need to see a solid fps in limited to benefit, and may find that 20fps is all you can do around airports. In unlimited, there are no extra frames to help smooth out the flow of the sim. You can experience problems with joystick button controls when in unlimited. With DX9 you can try using an external limiter that controls the card fps to experiment with performance. You will have to use the FSX internal limiter with DX10 selected. DX10 has slightly more visual quality, but you get flashing on many runways.Regards;Steve

Thanks to all of you guys, I have better picture now. I have already installed FSX, and made the first configurations. It runs pretty goodwithout the FPS limiter and flying at low altitude defaulft airplanes it runs at about 90 to 110 fps. After I added some WOAI airlines and it really takes a huge toll on the FPS if its runned at anything above 50% I have all of WOAI packages active in my FS9 and the impact to FPS is minimum.I will experiment more with the settingsThanks again guysJuan

The big trouble with WOAI packages is that they use FS9 native models. To get good performance in FSX with AI running requires using FSX native models.Regards, Mike Mann

Thanks for your reply MIke. How do you diferentiate which AI planes are for FS9 and which ones for FSX?RegardsJuan

Unfortunately the WOAI packages are all (to the best of my knowledge) FS9 native models. Most the payware AI packages offer FSX native models, but that could be a problem if you are not in the market to pay for your AI. My own AI system is a combination of a couple of payware packages (FSX native models) and schedules created by myself using various sources to provide the traffic I desire. I do utilize a select few FS9 native models where no suitable FSX native model could be located (such as the Martin Mars).Regards, Mike Mann
