Microsoft Flight - UK Release Nov 2011

Featured Replies

Interestingly, someone from PMDG said the other day (in their forum in response to a query), that they could neither confirm nor deny involvement with Flight in relation to their NG. I've yet to come across anyone who was free of constraints feel unable to deny something.Al

More to the point, if this were an accurate release date, then MSGS must be using folks from an alternate universe for beta testing......since not one person with whom I'm acquainted (which is to say, pretty much everyone) is involved... :(
Let me start by saying that I'm not trying to hurt your feelings here....:( Are you saying that all beta testers used before by MS for FSX are the only one who can still beta test Flight? So what you are saying here is that who ever was beta testing FSX have to be the same one beta testing Flight, no one else can do that?Since we all know that MS will sell 3rd party add-ons is it to farfetch to think that they are talking to each others (devs. & MS) to see what can be improved in the engine to facilitate the work of the developers as far as making add-ons for Flight, making sure that the same problems the developers had with the FSX SDK will not resurface in Flight, so is it also to farfetch to think that the 3rd party developers are beta testing Flight, I mean who's in better position to do that since THEY will be the one selling their addons in the store.Like I said before I can't see MS opening a store with nothing in it and wait for payware developers to get use to the new SDK and have their first payware add-ons in the store 1 or 1 1/2 year later.I think Flight is or will be beta tested by who ever will be selling add-ons in the store at the released of Flight, some 3rd party developers may be added later after flight is released (if MS did not signed any contract for exclusivity with a hand full of them) and so far all payware developers I know are not from an alternate universe. If I read your post wrong let me know.
and so far all payware developers I know are not from an alternate universe.
I dunno, there are one or two developers out there where I've had occasion to wonder what planet they were on :( Al

No, that is not what I'm saying or even implying. However, the pool of potential folks who are experienced enough to provide useful and knowledgable feedback is not infinite. That should be self-evident!As far as statements of the class such as "I can neither confirm nor deny" go, there are at least two possible reasons for such to be made...

1. the person or party
is
under an NDA2. the person or party wishes to
imply
they are under an NDA

Since I most definitely have not signed anything at all, I am just as ignorant of what's really going on as everyone else! :( At this juncture, I've quite frankly lost interest in "MS Flight" until such time as it is finally released and subject to first-person evaluation.

Fair enough.I think that beta testing for Flight will be done by the developers and their crue.

Seeing that developers have not been contacted yet, how is anything in beta or being developed? Yes, I am part of a crew.

Hi! Jim,that's a loaded question :( assuming I'll have an answer to it how would I be able to answer that without getting my feet wet....I don't know who's the crew you'r a part of, is it a payware developers involved in Flight development?

I think logistically it’ll be challenging to have the store ready to go with add-ons at RTM.The game is still not final; the SDK is contingent on the game; and the 3PD’s are contingent on both.Change the game (fix a bug or implement a system) -> update the SDK -> update the 3PD'sIf the team encounters a sticky issue, they could have a bunch of frustrated developers.à la, FSX-RTM-SP1-SP2-Acceleration.IMO, MS won’t allow 3PD’s hounding a staff busy finalizing a game.*-One strategy, would be to have 1 to 3 very-tolerant 3PD’s prototype the system - with simple projects.-Another strategy, would be to announce the store but open sometime after RTM.-Or, take a gamble, take on more priorities, and hope for the best ;)I like option #2* Proper studio etiquette says, if you encounter someone final-ing a game – YOU STEP ASIDE.- If they want your soda – you give it to them ;)I don’t picture critical path staff having much - if any - dialogue with 3PD’s at this stage.

Good point :) I don't know. Maybe E3 will shed some light...

If anyone has a spare ticket/pass I *AM* available to tag along, even if it means a trip into La-La land. Maybe I could take Metrorail?? :(
Not true ... gamestores get their dates from reasonable sources ... the relationship with the distributors
Tell that to all the Gamestop customers that pre-purchased Duke Nukem Forever as much as 10 years ago.

LOL, the classic example of why NOT to believe in any release dates from game sites!

Tell that to all the Gamestop customers that pre-purchased Duke Nukem Forever as much as 10 years ago.
One example does not prove the case .. there are hundreds of releases that are on the expected release date.
