May 30, 201115 yr Well this makes me a bit nervous... I built my new system about 3 months ago using a ATI HD5770, and have had no issues running FSX. Did I miss something? It's a matter of all other things being equal, nvidia cards generally perform better & have fewer glitches than ATI when it comes to FSX. I think it's mainly a driver issue. Vin or Ryan can post more detailed info, but that the basics of it.If you're happy with the ATI card & it doesn't cause any issues I wouldn't change it. When building a new system you might consider nvidia cards though... Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64

Don't jinx it! :( Seriously though, I had a ATI 4870 before my GTX480 and the only real problem I had was the inferior (compared to Nvidia in FSX) Anti-Aliasing. But I only found that out after upgrading, and the 4870 was so old by then that its age was probably the biggest factor, not its brand. I also upgraded to a i7 950 at the same time so I can't really tell. But if you don't have any problems, don't worry, they'll show themselves soon enough.Lol just kidding, its working fine for you, what more is there to say. :( William GreenCase: CM HAF 922 PSU: Corsair HX 1000W Mobo: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe CPU: Intel i7 2600K 4.8Ghz HT Off GPU: MSI GTX 770 Lightning 2GB RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 8GB 2133Mhz (9-11-10-28-1T) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 Soundcard: SB XtremeGamer PCI Screen: EIZO Foris FG2421 "240"hz OS: Win7 64

When building a new system you might consider nvidia cards though...I will for now on. Funny thing is that I've built several systems over the past several years, and have always used nvidia cards. This was my first build with an ATI card as it was on sale and I figured I'd try something new. I'm running ORBX scenerys, REX with some high end aircraft and have been running pretty smooth so far but I haven't loaded it down with the NGX yet....(maybe "loading it down" is the wrong term....challenged it sounds better!).. If I recall correctly, it's expected to be somewhere around their JS41 or MD-11 in terms of framerates. I only have the 744, so I don't know how that converts for me... May 30, 201115 yr I had before SLI Geforce GTX 275, sometimes I had problems and it was running good(frame rates)! But now I have ATI redeon 4 GB D5 6990 serie and now, its running like a monster. No problems no issues, always oke. Also Frame rates are perfect.Quality is depending on speed and memory of the videocard.I think ATI is indispensable :( Volkan

May 30, 201115 yr Commercial Member There's two main issues in FSX with AMD/ATI right now as I see it:1. Their architecture isn't conducive to running the older shaders that FSX is based on. FSX largely uses Shader 2.0 for stuff like clouds, water etc - the Radeon architecture just doesn't handle those as well as Nvidia's does. There's been a long standing problem with major slowdowns in FSX on these cards when there's a lot of clouds onscreen and stuff like that. This can be remedied somewhat by using ******* Altuve's Shader 3.0 mod, but it doesn't completely solve the issue.2. Image quality & driver issues - the Catalyst driver doesn't have the high quality combined AA modes that the Nvidia cards do. They do have a full-on supersampling mode, but it is very heavy on performance even on the latest cards. The Nvidia modes can combine fast multisample AA with a lower resolution version of supersampling to produce something that looks almost as good as full supersampling, but without the huge performance hit.AMD also has a set of long standing issues with the driver and FSX - stuff like weird lines/seams through GDI+ gauges, problems with Vsync and forced AA etc. I had a 4870 two cards ago and after contacting their driver team in my official capacity with PMDG, I was effectively told that they did not have any plans to look at FSX issues because it's an old game with a very small niche of players. I thanked them for their honesty and told them I'd be recommending only Nvidia cards to simmers from then on, which is what I've done.
