My standard cautions w/r/t Ariane:1. Caveat Emptor2. There's one born every minute3. Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat itThe iFly BBJ with the C-40 livery is a lot cheaper and a safer bet from my perspective.

Yup, I'd agree with that, although to be fair to Ariane, if their C-40 is based on their other NGs, which it almost certainly will be since it has the same PFD as their 700, then it will almost certainly get better FPS than the iFly one. Nevertheless, a quick repaint of the iFly FSX one (which only cost me a tenner) is a crapload less money than the 80 quid Ariane want for just one aircraft type as opposed to every NG apart from the 900ER that you get with iFly.And of course you can get a lovely P-8 Poseidon repaint for the iFly NG in Avsim's file library by that lovely guy... ooh, erm , what was his name again? :( Al

His name is Chock, Chock, and it is a sweet repaint. Amongt the words above, did I hear you maybe say you are going to pay yourself a tenner to do the C-40 repaint for the iFly fsx? City of Jacksonville looks like a good candidate.Ray

I've got an even better idea. You can download this: http://www.getpaint.net/ And you can do it :( Al

Thoughts on the ifly vs waiting for the PMDG? Thanks, Dave

Thoughts on the ifly vs waiting for the PMDG? Thanks, Dave
My thoughts are "I'm sure glad I got the iFly in the first hours of release". It is a very good FSX version with lot of models and now oodles of new repaints are appearing almost daily. Besides, how else will you get a P-8A Poseiden while you wait? Could be a long wait, why not be having some fun while in the queue. Sounds like the SP1 will be out in a week or so and fix a few first out glitches. iFly seems to work on a different calendar schedule than most others - a couple of weeks is about 14 days to them. Straight%20Face.gifBig%20Grin.gif But, there is no doubt the PMDG version is going to be up there in the stratosphere with the quality and depth of the add-on. I watched a video that Vic posted on their forum yesterday where the PF is clicking a few of the many options using the FMC. It is in 1080P and when I zoomed to full screen and snapped a few stills, I was actually awe struck. I mean absolutely amazed what those guys will be putting in front of us to play with whenever we feel like it.I am looking forward to flying an old, new NG in my underwear. :( Ray

The iFly is available via Flight1 so you can try it, and if you don't like get a refund within 30 days.If you are thinking about it that seriously then it is well worth a try .. ..G

*******DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!********I purchased this aircraft before I found out how poor Ariane's customer service has been.. :( Wish I hadn't... I paid my money and got the links to the software. Downloaded, extracted, disabled firewall and anti-virus. Ran installation program in administrator mode and installed the software. I got no errors during the installation. Followed the instructions on how to activate.. run FSX, load Cessna.. load green bodied C-40, go to Add-on menu where I am supposed to find a menu item for Ariane Design.. No such menu.. poured through install manuals.. (There are 2) ran back to the FSX directory/ariane designs folder.. ran the sendtoFSX.exe file.. rebooted laptop. restarted FSX, loaded Cessna, loaded green bodied C-40.. opened Add-on Menu.. nothing.. GRRRRR.. reread instruction manual.. sent e-mail to their e-mail addresses.. arianedesign.eu email FAILED due to unknown domain.. (Their "NEW" e-mail address DOES NOT WORK!)Shot e-mail to their aol e-mail address on Friday and have not heard anything back.. Went through the same process this morning when I got home and still have had NO luck getting their menu based activation to pop up in the Add-On Menu. E-mailed them again today including the order number. still no response.. double checked spam folders on my computer and in gmail.. nothing... If I don't hear back from them by Wednesday, 7/13/11 by noon (US Mountain time) I will call my bank and reverse the charge. (I bet they have a quick response at that point..) For over $100 customer service should be instantaneous.. not threats telling me that they will charge me more money if they have to repeat things written in the manual.. And where the hell are these "forums" they claim to have for customers.. Activation E-mail?.. I CANNOT Activate the damn thing!Sorry for the rant..-Damien

Here is the forum address for Ariane http://ariane.havetofly.com/ .You need to register and than ask your questions. You can check the FSX support forum and see if you can find a answer to your install problem. You can also send a PM to Ed and see if he can help you. There will be no menu for the Ariane till you get it activated so make sure that you do that and get your code from Ariane. JeffG

Hi JeffG,I found the forum after digging around an using different search words. Thank you for the link. I've registered and provided the Order info they request in the registration. Just waiting on the activation now. I hate to say it, but you are mistaken. It is clearly stated in the manual that there is supposed to be an activation menu in the Add-on menu option.. It's how you activate the aircraft. The menu does not show up in my FSX Add-on menu. The menu is suposed to verify ownership by asking name, e-mail and merchant ID. It then compiles an e-mail and sends it to Ariane. Ariane is supposed to reply with a serial code that activates the aircraft, which you input back in the Add-On menu. I've got no such Ariane Add-on menu. Only FSUIPC and FSInn are in my Add-on Menu.Regards, -Damien
