Forget shimmering, what about the messed up night lighting that shines through the solid walls of the cockpit when using DX10. This is the only reason I have never used DX10 preview, it looks ridiculous.
I don't have that light problem with the right driver and Inspctor settings, no airport flickerings where I fly and it's not only shimmerings but performance also so no light problems no flickerings runways where I fly no shimmerings and better performance = no bitc%#& for me, is it perfect ...naaaaaa but in my case a lot better compare to DX9.

I tried DX10 again after posting here and couldn't recreate the bloom shining through the cockpit walls so possibly this was an older driver issue. Still I did notice that the streetlights (ORBX) flicker off and on... if you have managed to fix all of the visual bugs in DX10 then more power to you, it certainly is better performing with settings bumped up to max.

I have not fixed all the visual bugs in DX10, I have improved them with the right driver (270.61) I tried other drivers without success, I will upload another vid. at KORS (Orbx) at night to show you that I have no light problems, car traffic at 59%, in the vid. you'll se the sky flickering one time for a fraction of a sec., it does that in every flight I take at about 2 > 3 minutes after the sim is started, so it's not perfect but I can live with that, I just make believe it's a lightning...:( I'll post the vid. later tonight.

OK here is three small vid. the first one has the FPS limited to 99....the second one at unlimited and the third one also at unlimited taxing..The landing is not the best as it is hard to land at night with the outside view, strong winds did not halped either, by the way in the second vid. I picked up one of the hugliest chick one can find....lolAgain it's not perfect but I like it better compare to DX9, stutterings mainly caused by Fraps, car traffic at 59% for the immersion, best to look at full screen 720P.

Very nice... If I could get DX10 running that well on my system I would definitely use it. The flashing lights and sparkling aliasing that I experience must all be driver related... unfortunately I'm not prepared (read: too lazy) to jump through driver hoops just to get it working :D

I understand, I spent hours trying to find the right driver and the Nvidia Inspector settings to get where I'm at right now, it's not perfect but I get better perf. out of FSX.

Bonjour Pierre (French name) pas de probleme, here are my Inspector's settings, let me know how it work with your PC...different hardware may give different result. Remember that the only driver working for me with these settings is the 270.61, I tried every other drivers with no sucess, I get crazy shimmerings in DX10 with other drivers....good luck.Inspectorsettingspng.png

Thanks a lot Alain (also a french name indeed),These settings are really fine for me with 275.33 NVidia driver. I still have problems with airport fences, antenna towers (alpha transparency only on some quadrants) and flickering taxiways (solved with AFCAD tweaks).Anyway, I'm ready to try again DX10 solution with FSX.It's a good prep in the time being, waiting for Flight :-)Pierre.CPU-i5-2500K @ 4.2 GHz - MB Asus P67 Sabertooth - 8 GB Corsair PC12800Video - nVidia GTX 560 TiHDD - 320 GB + 1024 GB WD Sata IIIWideView with 2x i7-920 @ 3.7 GHz - Asus P6T-SE - 6 GB Corsair PC12800 - nVidia GTX 460

I'm glad to know it's working for you with the 275.33 driver, I could not make it work at my end, maybe it's the GPU?Did you see an improvement on the FPS? What about the flickering lights at night? What is the AFCAD tweaks, you lost me here? You may be able to fix your airport fences, antenna towers and alpha transparency on some quadrants with the 270.61 driver?Keep us up to date with what's happening.

Hello Alain,I shall try 260.71 this evening (European Time)Sorry for "AFCAD Tweak" , it's ADE .bgl fix from James_2k :http://forum.avsim.net/topic/267998-dx10-runwaytaxiway-flickering-fix/Have a good dayPierre LFBE

@AlainAre you able to get a higher level of Anti-aliasing in DX-10 than what FSX offers? That was what always kept me from using it was the relatively low level of AA, but I noticed your settings are much higher. If you are indeed getting 32x AA, then I may just give it a try again. Thanks

If I change anything in Inspector's settings or use another driver I get shimmering, try it, Pierre said he got good result, he will try the 270.61 driver today, I can't wait to see if this driver is better for him, I'm just sharing what works for me.

I understand that these settings repair the shimmering. But what I would like to know is if the AA setting is better than the default AA that you can typically have with DX-10 mode.

Just for fun I tried out DX10 again. Still no AA. :( Suprisingly it didn't look too bad at 1980x1080 in the GA planes, but when I loaded up PMDG MD11, the glass cockpit was bad. The GA planes were doable with stock AA in my opinon. Next I turned it all the settings up. I think it was running better with water maxed than one notch back. Missed teh FS Water Config tho. And then there was the flashing runway intersections and wierd fences. But with all scenery sliders maxed, cars at 40, clouds radius maxed, bloom, and ground shadows checked I was able to get between 10-15 fps over big citis/airports with UT2 @ 100, which is obviously slow but was suprisingly fairly smooth. In light to moderate areas with those settings the fps was 60-100 but stayed smooth. Didn't have to mess with frame limiters etc. Thats about when I noticed vsync didn't seem to be working and I got tired of messing with it again so reverted back to the old .cfg :(
