July 1, 201114 yr Can some one be kind enough to explain how reverse thrust levers works on a aircraft such as a Boeing. Plus two questions:1. Does it matter how far u pull back the reverse thrust levers to affect the amount of thrust produced?2. If the reverse thrust levers are engaged can the main thrust levers move forward? Dmitriy Kotov If it is not IFR conditions it is not fun.

The more you come back, the more thrust that is applied.2. No. They are restricted by an interlock system.Sorry if my explanations are too basic. :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 2, 201114 yr Can you deploy them in the air? (of course that would be bad :()On most aircraft you can't, but some are approved for inflight reverse. The C-17 Globemaster has this capability, as did the Concorde. With the Concorde, idle reverse was used to help slow down during descent from cruise flight. Shane Gavin
July 2, 201114 yr Dimitry,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3jFdta5NL4This is a pretty good demonstration of how the levers work, though I'm not sure about some of the button presses he's doing. (The red button - black in real life - is the TOGA button, so that bit is technically correct I think. The buttons on the side of the handle are auto thrust disconnect buttons, but I don't believe that they also engage the autothrust system, as shown here.) Mark Adeane - NZWN

July 2, 201114 yr It was standard practice on the DC-8 to reverse 2 & 3 during descent. It was even "funner" on a -70 series jet with the CFM's.The packages in the back never once complained about the ride.

July 2, 201114 yr It is also possible in the 737, but only below around 3 meter and lower (10 feet). I can be wrong about this, but i'm sure it is possible in the 73, I'm not sure about the exact height,Luc de Wit

July 2, 201114 yr Kinda makes one wonder what kind of "advisory thing" would cause the pilot to not take that more serious. Not that it would have mattered. time from the warning to crash was 9 minutes. July 2, 201114 yr Correct, it is possible to deploy the thrust reversers on a 737 if the radar altitude is below 10 feet, but it's not a good idea apparently, certainly not on one with turbojets :( Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
