July 5, 201114 yr Hi guys,Doing some tests with my new pc, i have a strange problem with fps and airport vehicles..Testing with CLS 767-300 (sometimes heavy on the frames) in JFK with Ray Smith´s AFCAD, i get 15 fps in VC in 31L with Airport vehicles in "medium", when i disable it, Bum! 28 fps... i dont know if here is something wrong or if this is normal, but without airport vehicles the envoronment looks.... dead?Using my traffix 5.3b with settings 40/20.I dont know if there are a special setting for it, or what..Thanks for the help. 7800X3D / 7900XTX / ROG STRIX B650-A / Corsair Vengeance 32GB 6000mhz, etc etc.
July 5, 201114 yr I also use MTX 5.3b with 50/20 settings and medium setting for airport vehicles and get around 17 fps around JFK as well. I don't want to remove the airport vehicles because, like you wrote, it makes the airports look dead. The real killer is the jetways that move for the aircraft. From what I read, the airport vehicles should not be that big of frame rate killers.
July 5, 201114 yr Airport vehicles and road traffic are both fps killers and the cause of stutters - in my observation. The best way to see this is to fly over the airport and view the plane from the outside at a 90 degree angle and watch how smoothly the scenery goes by at the lower corners of your screen. Zoom out to magnify the effect.Adjusting the traffic sliders will give you fps changes and stutter changes as well. You can have 30+ fps and still have severe stuttering, because, in my view, the vehicle traffic code sometimes takes much more cpu time than it should, which results in big fluctuations in your fps and leads to stutters. Also, if you are running AI traffic, you should wait a bit to check your fps, because far more cpu time is used to get the AI planes going right after you start the flight.
July 5, 201114 yr Airport vehicles are the worst framerate killers at large airports. So no need to worry. Even my 4.3GHz system doesn't like more than "minimal" on larger airports.
July 5, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the fast replies guys, so "minimum" is the best balanced setting, from medium or up things can be really bad. Thanks!! 7800X3D / 7900XTX / ROG STRIX B650-A / Corsair Vengeance 32GB 6000mhz, etc etc.
July 5, 201114 yr And just to show how different everyone's systems are, I run airport vehicles at max. I have a stutter every now and then, but nothing to do with airport vehicles. Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
July 6, 201114 yr I have mine off as all they end up doing is just make me mad especially when they stop right in front of me and just sit there without a care in the world. Besides some of the payware airports remove then anyways due to problems with them.Jim Jim Wenham

Namely KPDX by Flightzone02 for FS9. Still available from Flight 1.Developers seem to ignore the fact that scenery with enough work can be optimized to run smoothly - Vauchez is the only one to have done this, in my experience. The vehicles that come with the payware's are fine though as they tend to follow the rules of the road far better than the default fsx vehicles. As for FSDT I wish there was a way to make it so they wont show with 2 wheels and then in Transformer fashion pop into 4 wheels. Other than that their vehicles perform well. Now as for ImagineSim's KATL... I have removed the BGL for the animated vehicles as they always will drive right thru you and the smoothness of their animation is poor. Same goes for KCLT. July 7, 201114 yr It's not that the vehicles are stupid. In stock airports, they use taxiways to get around; a big problem if the airport is busy. In a well designed airport, they have their own paths they follow. It is certainly possible to fix your favorite airport where this is a problem.
