July 14, 201114 yr I have REX as my weather textures and engine. I have issues with PMDG products due to wind shifting. I would like to purchase ASE. Will that alone be enough to take care of the wind shifting or do I really need FSUIPC?

July 14, 201114 yr We wish it was that simple! I hope the OP doesn't read the document in ASE that goes through all of this with a registered version of FUSIPC needed.

July 15, 201114 yr I highly recommend registered FSUIPC. It helps a ton with wind shifts as well as a number of other useful things (I do all my yoke/throttle settings in FSUIPC and in fact have joysticks disabled in FSX.) Highly recommend it.-stefan

July 15, 201114 yr You can tell us what are these advanced options? Thanks in advance. Some folks need to use wind smoothing anyway to get rid of s-turns, and some others (like myself) very opposite need to disable some weather features in FSUIPC to get rid of problems with winds updates etc. I have avoided buying FSUIPC as long as I could, but in the end it turned up to be one of best purchases.
July 15, 201114 yr Which is better, REX Weather Engine or ASE? I'm asking because I have REX 2.0. Or are they different things? Do I have to use FSX in windowed mode, or does it allow fullscreen mode? Thanks Chidiebere Anyahara

July 15, 201114 yr As far as I understand the concept of DWC is that it "locks" the weather as being the same worldwide as the departure airport. Since I don't really like that (imagine flying from Athens to Helsinki how different the weather can be) I personally use REX only for its superb graphics, ASE for the weather (no DWC) and FSUIPC for wind smoothing.FSUIPC was my last purcahse between these three and was the final solution in getting rid of the S-turns (which by the way were the main reason for registering in this forum)...I'm not really a fan of constantly buying stuff but some basic things are pretty much necessary for enjoying simming at a minimum level. Do I have to use FSX in windowed mode, or does it allow fullscreen mode?ThanksI use REX 2.0 for textures and ASE for the weather engine. I don't use DWC in ASE. Options I have in FSUIPC to help with wind smoothing and such, I don't remember offhand and I'm not in front of the PC, but I believe I have limited wind changes to 1 kt or direction of change for every 5 seconds (or is it 8? I forget.) It seems rather 'harsh' but it works amazingly well, and any faster changes will often overspeed or stall you when you're high altitude with a small flight envelope. I'd rather have my winds end up slightly inaccurate due to a slow change than have the plane do something annoying because of broken winds. I also limit temperature changes to something similar and barometric pressure as wel. ASE will sometimes send (probably because it gets from its sources) bogus temperature or pressure data, which can kill the plane as well. I'm not such a stickler for realism that I need 100% accurate weather at the expense of a functional flightsim. If anyone wants, I can check FSUIPC later and post my settings.-stefan

ASE DWC doesn't work like you said. I use it all the time and evry 10 min it downloads the real world weather. I never had the same weather as the departure airport in the whole flight.Regards, Matias SorcinelliCHECK MY CHANNEL!!! - http://www.youtube.com/user/masneoquil
