July 14, 201114 yr I have the hardware to run it but am wondering what brands do you all recommend when considering LCD tv greater than thirty inches for use with FSX? I cant find any monitors over thirty inches thus my question. Specifically looking at something around 35". Obviously response time and screen resolution are very important. Thanks Eric

July 14, 201114 yr Author Thanks guys. Any major differences I should know about over a regular computer monitor? How is gauge readability in VC? Eric
July 14, 201114 yr Eric,I don't think there is anything that you should know...About the readability..I can tell you that I went from a normally sized monitor to my 40-50 inch sharp 3d tv with no problem!I had no absolutely no problem whatsoever when going from a monitor, to a huge tv so as said before I don't think you should know anything else...... I went from a 24 monitor to a 40" LCD TV and love it. Gauge readability is just fine. I set approximately 1 m from my 40" TV and have no problems with image quality.I will never go back to a monitor and am considering a 55" LCD (only money holding me back). Danny
July 15, 201114 yr Commercial Member I use to run FS on a 42" and liked it very much. I ran it 1080p on a Vizio and it ran fine. I would say your okay to go up to 5ms on the screen. July 15, 201114 yr Can someone tell me, is it an old wives tale that there is harmful radiation or other electron emissions that might be harmful by sitting 1 meter from a TV screen that size?Well sitting very closely to a TV surely isn't good for your eyes...I always keep a good distance from it ( 3-5 meters.... ) TomTheTomable
July 15, 201114 yr Can someone tell me, is it an old wives tale that there is harmful radiation or other electron emissions that might be harmful by sitting 1 meter from a TV screen that size?It was with old CRT TVs. Electron gun shooting electrons to the screen - it's called ionized radiation... You could even feel the static in front of the screen. Just see how much dust it attracted. And not to talk about low refreshes, older one with 50hz... ugh.On LCD/Plasma/LED/3D..., there is no radiation (liquid crystal glowing, and changing color). You can be 1cm from the screen and there will be nothing - only really warm. I can clean my screen every 2 months and wipe almost nothing from it (Panasonic Plasma 42inch).Of course, the sheer size of the screen and trying to fit it on a close viewing will very much hurt the eyes. But not from radiation but rather the permanent attempt to see the whole picture or looking left-right.
July 15, 201114 yr Author Thanks for all the info guys. Just need to make sure the native resolution is at least XX x 1080 and not 720? Now to find one under 5ms like Jeff suggested. I saw that Panasonic one was just under 7ms. Wonder if 2ms makes that much of a difference? Eric
July 15, 201114 yr Somebody correct me if I'm wrong... but increasing the size of the screen doesn't increase to field of view.. does it? The reason I ask is - I'm running three 1280 x 1024 Viewsonic monitors at 3840 x 1024 using the TripleHead2Go system. It gives me an enormous FOV when I compare it to my early single 1024 x 768, then my later 1280 x 1024, then up to my last single monitor - a Gateway 21" $800 (Can) monitor. I've never considered using a TV screen.. am I missing something here? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
July 15, 201114 yr Commercial Member I have a projector set up in my office that projects FS onto the wall in front of the desk, creating a screen approximately 120inches. Cockpit becomes lifesize and provides immediate immersion especially used in conjuction with TrackIR

July 16, 201114 yr Moderator Somebody correct me if I'm wrong... but increasing the size of the screen doesn't increase to field of view.. does it? No, it does not. The FOV at 42" 16:9 is precisely the same as a 22" 16:9... Now if I could just afford three 42" 16:9 LCD HDTV's and Eyefinity... :LMAO: Fr.
