July 15, 201114 yr Hi All,I watched a 1 hour "air disaster" documentary the other day. Back in 1983 when the Boeing 767 was brand new to the airlines. Apparently while enroute a duel engine fairlure resulted at 26,000 ft on a air canada flight. The captain dead sticked it into an abandoned military airstrip, which was used for local street or mortorcycle racing. There we races going on and the captain had to do a hard side slip (like that would be done in a Cessna 172) on the Boeing 767 to get on the ground. The captain had alot of glider experience also. Nobody has ever been able to recreate this in the airline simulators. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimli_GliderThe investigation concluded that the fuel crews did not calculate the conversion of Pounds (US) to Kg of fuel proprerly, resulting in only fueling the plane 50% required for the flight!! OOOPPSS :( Can one of the Tech team members or a Beta tester report if the PMDG 737NG is capable of side-slip?Thanks,BillyBob BillyBob David M. July 15, 201114 yr I have yet to see any FSim aircraft that forward or side-slips correctly. About the only time this short coming with cross control behavior makes any difference to me is during cross wind landings. At least in the airliners. On a side note, during those situations the worst part of the sim is the lack of friction when the wheels touch down. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 15, 201114 yr The crew actually ran out of gas - an embarassing mistake related to the fuel being loaded in imperial measurements, but the plane was metric - or vise-versa I don't remember which. The pilot both screwed the pooch and redeemed himself. Google "gimly glider" and you should find a lot more on this incredibel feat of airmanship. Colin Ware

July 16, 201114 yr Wow, dead sticked a 767 with a dash of side slip? Good pilot, aside from forgetting to fill th plane up with fuel. One of the things I want to try is to see how easy it is to dead stick land the pMDG NGX. I hope the NGX is no worse. Michael J.
July 16, 201114 yr I'll check it out Michal. Can't say I'm familiar with it!To Billy: I have flown the A2A Cub. Unfortunately I have to say, to me it handles nothing like a real Cub. It just didn't "feel right". Especially slips. That being said I never use FS for GA flying like I do in the real Cub anyway. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

However, it felt like a C-172 side sliping, which i've done quite a few of. But I've been out of currency for several years now. :( Best,BB BillyBob David M. July 16, 201114 yr 6'5", does that allow for flying in a real cub, or is that still to tall?-SpencerWell my 6'4" friend will fit but that's pushing it! I'm sure he'll be reading this... "Hi Thomas!" :biggrin:The front seat is especially short in the leg area. Getting in and out is a problem for tall folks, too. It's an art for any stature. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

Getting in and out is a problem for tall folks, too. It's an art for any stature. My legs are VERY long and my knees generaly reside about 4-6" into the firewall for most small planes C-152, Aeronca, sailplanes, etc. and most economy class flights. I took a United 747-400 flight from SFO to Hong Kong in CHINESE sized economy class seat, it was a miserable 12 hours!!! :( Also my right leg is 2" longer than left and have to wear a large 2" lift in that shoe, to minimize scholeosis effects.BB BillyBob David M.
