July 19, 201114 yr Hello flight simmers!I do not know if this question was asked before. If yes, please apologize. When an aircraft touches down on the runway in FSX the nose wheel touchdown is not as accurate as in a real scenario. What do I mean? If the main gear touches down, the bird is nearly strinking hard down on the ground with the nose gear. You have also not really a chance to prevent this fully by using the pitch elevator. So, I would like to know if this negative effect was considered in the NGX and was hence developed accurately? Is this an FSX issue? Or am I a worse pilot? :( ______________________ Kind regards from Austria Matthias Fischer My FS9 computer: CPU: Intel Core2 Duo [email protected] Mainboard: Asus P5B, LGA 775, DDR2 RAM: Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 Graphic Card: Sapphire Radeon HD3870, 512MB GDDR4 OS: Windows XP SP3
July 19, 201114 yr Commercial Member I have to say it sounds more like the pilot then the sim. I have never seen this problem in FS9 or FSXRegards Rob Prest
July 19, 201114 yr You have also not really a chance to prevent this fully by using the pitch elevator.Uh, sounds like severe mistrim to me? Has your approach been stabilized before? You shall be stable at and below 1000' AFE, and that also means only small corrections shall be neccessary in order to maintain your glidepath. This in turn requires a well trimmed aircraft. Once you get that nailed down you should be able to lower the NLG nice and easy.
July 19, 201114 yr Moderator I have to say it sounds more like the pilot then the sim. I have never seen this problem in FS9 or FSXRegardsI agree, when I am landing either the PMDG 747, JS4100, LDS767 or just about any other a/c that I own, as long as I am comming in at the correct speed and pitch, once the main gear touches down I can usually hold off the nose gear for almost as long as I want. Although I dont do that and get the nose down fairly soon once the mains touch down, I have done it on more than one occasion just for fun and too see how long it would take to bleed of enough speed before I couldn't hold the nose gear off the runway anylonger.Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
July 19, 201114 yr If you have the Autobrake set to MAX most likely the breaking action of the main wheels will slam the nose wheel to the ground if you are not prepared to counteract immediately. Furthermore if you speed has dropped during the flare and touch down the elevators would not have enough lifting force to counteract the nose downward rotation. Keep in mind that the slamming occurs quite often in the real life too (on the 777 it's sometimes quite a refreshing moment for the premium cabins pax :( ) Regards, Martin Martinov / VATSIM 1207931

July 19, 201114 yr Matthias,Nosewheel touchdown strikes me as very realistic with every landing I make in the NGX. That's entirely subjective, of course, and others may have a different experience.Your question got me thinking, and it occurse to me that this is exactly what is meant by "flying the airplane onto the runway". Until all three sets of wheels are on the ground, you're still flying the plane. July 19, 201114 yr Well said, but I will take this further you are still flying the airplaneUntil u exit the runway. This is how my instructor have had taught me.
July 19, 201114 yr "Until all three sets of wheels are on the ground, you're still flying the plane". Well said EMB120....!I would argue you're always "flying" the plane ensuring your surface deflection is appropriate no matter what phase of flight your in.Concerning the NGX, after a lot of practice and consultation concerning good technique with the other pilots on the team, I have finally pulled off a few "greasers" including not slamming the nose wheel. :( George Morris
July 19, 201114 yr Point taken...what I meant was that you need to fly the nosewheel onto the runway just like you do the mains. :( Best Regards, Kurt "Yoda" Kalbfleisch Pinner, Middx, UK Beta tester for PMDG J41, NGX, and GFO, Flight1 Super King Air B200, Flight1 Cessna Citation Mustang, Flight1 Cessna 182, Flight1 Cessna 177B, Aeroworx B200

July 19, 201114 yr Hey testers, regarding the touchdown issue, could you comment on touchdown and rollout sounds? I'm sure you enjoy the speedbrake extension sound as well?
July 19, 201114 yr Just noticed your signature Kurt, that's great!! :(I just noticed too! :)Hey. I am still missing a NGX Beta Team signature!Cheers, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
July 19, 201114 yr Hey testers, regarding the touchdown issue, could you comment on touchdown and rollout sounds? I'm sure you enjoy the speedbrake extension sound as well?Etienne,The sounds in the NGX are amazing...they feel to my simmer's ear to be absolutely spot on. Touchdown and rollout sounds are VERY immersive.Truthfully, I've never noticed a speedbrake extension sound, and I'd be surprised to find there is one in the NGX. The cockpit is quite a distance from the wings, so if things like spoilers and flaps are audible, they're muted and masked by louder noise makers like the recirc fans.
