Hello simmer fellows! Due to the impending release of the NGX I am asking the following question: What would be the best way to learn this awesome but more complex bird? I know some of us - including me - will have much experience with the old NG but you know the new bird will be much more complex. So, how do you will get started with the NGX? Do you read all manuals in-depth and start learning the NGX from scratch? I think this would be the best and meaningful way. I am gonna do this. Because when studying the manuals we will have the chance to get to know the system functions in-depth.Or do you just print out the checklists and start to fly (hope not)? laugh.png What do you advise an average simmer - who can handle the old NG - PMDG team?

I will do it this way:First the tutorial flight to get used to the basics. After that i will read the fmc-manuals and the FCOMs to get used to the normal procedures. For the rest i will learn by doing ;)

D. all the above in that order. After viewing the AoA vids will have an extensive play with all the systems with the FCOM's and procedures at my side and thoroughly review them all over time. So much effort has gone into these systems to make them as 'real' as it gets would be a shame not put a lot of time in on that side.

If you can handle the 737NG on FS9 you will also be able to handle the 737NG(X) for FSX ... The X in NGX just means its for FSX ... Its still a NG !Of course you are having better grafics and a bit more system depth but everything thats aplies to the old NG also applies to the new NGX. But I would start with the tutorial first and see if something drastic changes, but I doubt it

Just keep in mind that if you do decide to just hop in and go, read the manual BEFORE reportin what you may think are bugs because the probably aren't! For example, don't report a bug saying the TOGA doesn't work! Read the manual and find out why the TOGA isn't working for you!JackColwill

Quit harping on about that Jack! smile.png I did say I was sorry. And I did read up in the manual... Eventually... Whistle.gif Cheers,

Hi, Reference the post by P.L. Tran, I dont think PMDG took all this time and effort to duplicate the old 2004 NG into the X version. I have the Westjet DVD and the flight featuring Captain Peter Bile who flew the 737-300 prior to the 600 had to take a refresher course on the 600 to be rated (or something similar). So my reading of this is there must be differences and on flying the 737ngx we will find out. richard welsh.

Richard, The old 2002/2004 NG is the same aircraft type as the NGX granted the NGX has updated avionics and a whole lot of new stuff as you already know. But basic flying techniques and automation button pressing is essentially the same. The difference between the PMDG NG and the PMDG NGX cannot be compared to the difference between the -300 and the -600. Cheers,

of course there will be differences, but the buttons will be still in the same place, you have to do the same procedure (checklist) to get the plane startet.I just doubt that someone who have flown the 737NG on FS9 for years will now have trouble to find where the battery on switch is or having a complete new checklist for startup and dont know what to press next. There will be more realistic flight charcateristics and more systems simed, but you don't need years just to get plane from a to b if you have flown the fs9 version

I'll take-off, fly a pattern and land with the HUD down. Been waiting for this moment for ages (literally)!!! The rest comes afterwards...

I'm gonna start cold and dark, doing the checklists slowly and hearing and seeing every unique sound and light while I do (like the electrical hyd. pumps. That was never there before in my knowledge, in any addon). When ready to depart, testing the taxi behaviour. Then takeoff and reject. Takeoff. Short hop to another airport and instument landing. Park. Shutdown. Secure. Seeing and hearing. Than night time all over again.

LOL Mats. It wasn't in reference to you though. We actually we talking about people doing thar before it went wide beta and then someone eventually did it. You were the lucky one that gets to get teased. HeheJackColwill
