Favourite Planner? .rte..

er I get my plans from EFB and then I use the CDU and input them. Thats what pilots do. i rarely save plans in the FMC as i like to input them each time ads to the immersion factor. Wycliffe
In real life, most airliners will have all that stuff uplinked to the box with winds, alternates and even ETOPS ranges. But yeah, inputting it all by hand is fun.

Fabrizio, and others, When I download the SimRoutes rte file to the NGX flightplan folder it 'saves' but then doesn't show up in the folder when I try to load it from the FMC. Now I download the rte to the desktop and move it to the PMDA/Flightplans/NGX folder and it works (but it asks for 'admin permission' to move the file). Is there a way that I can directly DL from SimRoutes right into the NGX flightplan folder? Thanks in advance! Joe
Joe, I haven't messed around with this yet, I'll do so later today and get back to you. Dave

Not at the moment,Frederic.Apparently like FS2Crew, they are awaiting an SDK or something like that from PMDG.A fix is envisaged

For me, FSBuild2 is the best flight planner with the ability to export flights to .rte and .pln format. I've been using it ever since. For flight charts I use Navigraph NDAC3, you can also get AIRAC updates. Both of them are payware.

Joe, You can use Sim Routes (free area) at: http://www.simroutes.com/fb2/ParseRoute.aspx to dump in a route from Flight Aware (don't use SIDs or STARs). Enter the Origin and Destination ICAOs and then the flight plan (minus SIDs and STARs) into the ROUTE area. Then select "Generate Route", which will take you to the flight plan and download page. Select the aircraft (which will change your route speed) and which aircraft you wish to download your flight plan for. Select PMDG, download the file, and place it in your FSX\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS folder. Don't put it in the FSX\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS\NGX folder, as for some reason you won't be able to pull up the flight plan in the CDU (FMC). If you place it in the first folder I listed, you can pull the flight plan up in the CDU without any problems. No format changes are required. Note that when you save a flight plan from the CDU, it seems to save it to the FSX\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS\NGX folder, which means that you won't be able to pull it up again (unless you move it to the correct folder). Hope this helped. Dave

Dave, That was the problem--the destination folder!! It's perfect now with the usual saves for Radar Contact and with that folder for the NGX. And the FlightAware decodes is where i usually get my routes to begin with as well. Thanks, again! Joe

???? Using Co Route you can save and restore flight plans and there is no moving files around. Do not understand what you are advising here. Can you explain further?

Yeah, that might be a little confusing. I was explaining how to use Company Route.

There seems to be small problem with EFB in that it doesn't display AI traffic when flying the NGX - can see AI traffic with the NGX in other apps such as FSC but not EFB - quite odd. Bruceb

Yeah, not sure if this is related to the TCAS problems in the NGX. Here's something I don't understand, at all. Last night I was flying the Level-D (excellent aircraft, still a favorite), and my TCAS didn't warn me of any traffic including a guy an approach controller ran right into me. It worked fine before I installed the NGX. I'm not saying the two are related, but it's never malfunctioned before, not once. Dave

I'm trying the trial for Aivlasoft's EFB right now, and it's a nice program when networked to a laptop but it disconnects too frequently when I use FSINN. Can anyone that's used both Aivlasoft's EFB and Aerosoft's Flightsim Commander comment on which one they like better?EFB looks more modern but FS Commander seems to be a more solid flightplan builder.Another thing I noticed is EFB is almost $90 US while FS Commander is around $45. I'm currently using FSBuild but looking for something consolidated like FS Commander if it's worth it.
