737 NGX concerns and questions

Featured Replies

How to make the cockpit look more crisp ? I am wondering after pulling down a few things in FSX (no add on scenery ) and running NGX on a similar system (my friend's ) the fps is around 15-22. Hope if has bought the right NGX or the older PMDG 737, under aircraft selection it shows four models (737NG, 737NGX , 7379NG, 7379NGX). Is that correct ?

I will try it out. How are the flight dynamics ?
I think it flies better than anything in the hangar. It is smooth and heavy to me. I think it is very difficult to evaluate or explain how an airplane flies in a simulator. Ray

I don't think so. I don't know anything about the 7379NGX or sister. What is available today for FSX in the base package is four models that includes two 800 models and two 900 models - each with and without winglets. They are usually referred to as B738 and B738 WL (with Winglets) and the B739 and the B739 WL (with Winglets). They come with a limited number of repaints but the list is up to about 50 official repaints that you download for free from the PMDG site. The package comes with its own Liveries Manager and all you have to do unzip the download and point the Livery Manger to one file and it does the full install in the proper place. The thumbnails are nice in that they have the airline logo and the PMDG logo so you don't confuse them wiith the default, OpenSky, IFly, etc. Here are what some of my choices are in FSX. Hard to believe you have 1,000+ posts and you would be asking questions like this in the general forum about the most anticipated product of all time for flight sim. I'm actually surprised at all the civil answers that you have. I agree with them all. I would think you would know PMDG's refund policy - They don't refund downloads. A quick check of their site would show this. All the other answers are probably just what you would expect to hear about a PMDG product that took 3 years to produce. Ray
Whats his number of posts got to do with anything? The questions were as valid if he had 10 posts, 1000 posts or 10,000 posts! I also think the questions were fair considering the level of issues being reported in that thread. Without a refund policy as per F1, $70 is not pocket change to be wasting on something that doesn't work well on YOUR system. I have no doubts about the overall quality and depth of this prouct, but then I dont think that was ever an issue OR the OP's intent of the questions posed.

Guys please tell me should I go with iFly (I like the graphics better ) or NGX ( found a difference in handling the iFly feels heavier) .

The NGX surpasses the iFly in systems accuracy and flight dynamics, and in my opinion is much more visually pleasing. The VC click spots of the iFly, especially on the overhead, are annoying and more difficult to interact with compared to PMDG products.

There are multiple videos on youtube of the NGX. Photos can be found via google and the PMDG NGX forum here at the AVSIM forums. Also, the Angle of Attack videos by Nick give a very impressive rundown of the staggering realism of the NGX.

Checking.
Iron, I posted some screen shots here http://forum.avsim.net/topic/343568-pmdg-ngx-fps-comparison-shots-at-jfk-with-core2duo/ that show the VC a little bit, along with the performance I am getting on my older rig. I am running resized VC textures but even the resized ones are incredibly sharp and I honestly can't tell much difference from them and the originals.Good luck whatever you do, but in my opinion the PMDG NGX is the best plane I have ever owned for FS9 or FSX.

On my friend's rig the AI / and other stuff is not clear you need to come too close to it to be able to read it.

There are tons of screenshots and videos over at the PMDG 737NGX forum. Rather than have dual posts going with the same stuff, how about just visiting there. I posted some nice shots a couple of weeks ago. I will dig a couple up and post them. Vic has a real good video posted and pinned at the General site for PMDG and AOA Media Training has several long HD (1 Hr) videos for free viewing. You might want to check those out also. I think the basic install only has a handful. No more than two or so of each model. All the addiional ones are just more liveries from the PMDG download site. Ray

I know there may be some real issues with the NGX for some users, but I think most of the problems are lack of knowledge, not reading the manuals and people with unstable overclocks, and just because you say its stable does not mean it is, I heard one guy say his OC was stable because he ran prime95 for an hour on it, you have to run it for at the very least 12 hours IMHO, as well as other testing tools. The NGX is a very complex aircraft through in some orbx scenery on a unstable chip and your going to get CTD's, fsx alone is not the most stable platform to begin with.
