I'm sorry and I know this is the wrong forum, but please cope with me, this is the most active forum I'm in a nutshell, PLEASE HELP.I have to decide out of two processors, I have $700US as of now, I need to know if I should use it all on the Core i5 2500k, or can I go for the cheaper Core i3 540 :(I know the Core i5 is Better, but what type of technological gap (Performance) are we looking at? An extra 2FPS?Is the i3 overclockable? Is it worth it, because I'm in a deadly position, I don't want to waste all my money for an extra 2FPS.How far can I overclock the Core i5 with stock FAN?

Don't waste your money on the i3 or i5.Go with an i7 if you can as it will be a lot better. The difference with the i3 & i5 is enough to pay a little more and get a little more out of it. I would not go anywhere near anything lower than i7 :) Hope it helps a little.. Andy

Sit at the back! It won't reverse into a mountain!

Not very far at all, I wouldn't even try overclocking with the stock fan to be honest

I think as long as you get a i5 2500k, gettng an i7 won't make a huge difference when using fsx. If you're on a tight budget an i5 is the way to go

Oh, thanks. I was confused for a moment. I guess the 1156 should be 1155.Although i have a 2600k, some people say, save youself some money and get a 2500k and put the savings into the best GPU you can find. They are likely right.

I think this is kind of outdated advise your giving.. For the first gen of the core processors yes but the i5 2500k and the i7 2600k are the way to go these days.

Please post on the Hardware, MOBO forum. It is very active with lots of experienced builders there. As for the chip. The i5 2500K is all you need for FSX as the 2600K only adds hyperthreading and that is not a feature FSX can take advantage of so save yourself $100 and buy a nice fan for the OC. Mark.

What? Which do you think is faster? An i7 960 or an i5 2500k? I know the answer. *Hint Hint* It's the cheaper of the two.

+1 @OP:Get i5 2500k, OC it to 4.5GHz and you will be happy.
