Featured Replies

Hello, can anyone share some information on how to determine the Cost Index and what value should be entered into the FMC. Thanks !!! ******* H

It's determined by airline policy

For an NGX isn't it usually around 70's 80's?

That changes from airline to airline. Sometimes the difference from one to another can be quite shocking. I'm not aware of any published list, you just have to search for those little tidbits of info that real-world pilots sometimes share. Sometimes Virtual Airline forums can give good info.

Hey *******, it depends on airline and what they like to use. Usually low cost airlines uses low cost indexes for maximum save of fuel and normal airlines uses cost indexes such as 50 or so. But is still depends on airline. For example Norwegian uses normally 15 and if they're late from their schedule they use 50 or so.

The manual says it has a large range available; however, I've always run anywhere between 50-90. It is an operator policy IIRC.

In the tutorial they say that 20-40 is normal if i remember correctly.

Correct - all our tech team pilots reported standard usage within that 20-40 range. It's not like a 744 or MD-11 where you see 90 and up.

It does change per-flight based on complex equations/algorithms that an airline's dispatchers perform - there's not just one setting that's always used on a particular plane at a particular airline.

Cost index's are dropping fast due to the rise in fuel price's. I remember back in 2006 Easyjet 73G's used 35. And Jet 2 are now down to 8. Craig.
