Anyone try the new ESDG Cessna CJ-1 ?

Featured Replies

All, For some reaon I find myself strangely attracted to the older straight wing Cessna jets... The Citation X is a bit much for me... I like the CJ II the best - but - I might try the CJ1... Anyone make the leap yet ??? Feedback ??? Regards,Scott

I have limited experience with Eaglesoft products, that being my friend's Hawker jet. It was fun in FS9 but was released some 5 years ago IIRC. That being said I can't answer your question directly, but I'll add what I know. My understanding is that "all" that is added to the CJ1 2.0 is a more accurate representation of the Collins Proline avionics and finally, a realistic FMC. If it were native FSX, I'd think about buying it. I'm really waiting for the Citation Excel, but it's page displays "Most Exciting New Product for 2010!" and still hasn't been released...

Zach, a glance of the Features List reveals much more than your "understanding". Nonetheless, the yet to be released FSX Model is indeed so called FSX "Native" so let's not assume something that is not accurate.Nerd.gif By the way the newly named XLS is on hold for the time being.

I went over the features list, seems my "understanding" isn't far off! Are you guys always so smug to would be customers?

Why would you call my response to your "understanding" smug? I'm pointing out what we know..not speculation.rolleyes.gif

I'm basing what I know on your features list. *holier-than-thou eye roll* Which, oddly enough, matches closely the features list of the "1.0" version (that features list has been removed if I'm not mistaken). A re-branded 1.0 model with new avionics features is what I take from that. Your problem, not mine. I'm just a lowly customer that only has access to the features list you provide. And yes, smug indeed. And always have been in my forum experience here. But I digress for the OP's sake.

Whatever you choose to "understand" or "speculate" on does not translate into facts. The smiley I chose is not, to my knowledge, "holier than thou" but you've already proven that you would rather "spew your view" than admit to your own smug attitude. Thanks for pointing out the website snafu..we'll update it as soon as possible.

Zach, I've spent the better part of the past four years working on the CJ1+ for both FS9 and FSX. Having such an intimate knowledge of the work I've done, I can assure you that the FSX version especially is very much different than the v1 release. Among model changes and improvements, I coded an entirely new gauge system for it. David has put a tremendous amount of work into the Universal UNS-1 FMS and Collins ProLine system as well. As far as I'm aware it will be the first Universal FMS for FS ever, but more importantly it fully supports not only the Navigraph Database, but the complete FSX database as well, which by the way also includes all of the existing approaches native to FSX's database.

I was very interested when I saw the release news on AVSIM front page, but the quality of the virtual cockpit textures in the screenshots put me off a little if I'm honest. They are clearly improved upon the CJ1 V1.0 but not reaching the standards that I personally feel a lot of FSX users demand in 2011. I'm sure the systems coverage will be good and Eaglesoft planes always hand fly nice, but I think they have fallen behind in terms of texturing. Purely in terms of texture quality and realism, compare the screenshots of this 2011 release, with the virtual cockpit in the PMDG J41 that was released 2 years ago. .....and I won't even mention the 737NGX. Just my take; it may be a great plane.

Zach, you claim to be a "commercial pilot", if that is indeed the case then you of all people should understand the complexity of a fully functional UNS-1 in a flight simulator add on such as this. That addition alone would justify the price of admission in most serious simmers books... Further, why are you so down on ES? Are they forcing you to buy any of their products? If not then simply do not buy, if you feel this strongly against... This jet alone makes me want to install WIndows via Bootcamp on my Mac, buy a copy of FS9 or X and move back from X-Plane! blush.png

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Sounds like a real aviation enthusiast!cool.png

Let me clear this up. By no means am I "down" on ES. On the contrary, I'm thrilled there's a company (the only one?) producing faithful reproductions of GA small cabin jets. So before ES tries to perform "damage control" in here, keep that in mind. Rather or not Ron's response was rude, I took it as such and reacted. Bill basically vindicated my so called "understanding". Remember? The one where I said it's basically the same model with better Proline simulation...? Also, I claim to be a "commercially rated" pilot, not an airline/corporate pilot.

With the attitude you convey on a weekly basis in these forums, I'm surprised you're the "front man" for ES in here. Bill does a much better job not running possible supporters away. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to at least have one of those. You should apologize to your partners in business for the terrible cloud of arrogance you cast on ES.

Mmm, I'm not sure that one piece of kit would sell it for most simmers. I suspect most simmers (and it's silly to try to decide who is serious and who is not, in your mind) are more interested in general aspects like the quality of interior and exterior textures, flight model, and yes of course systems coverage too. I'm not a long-timer around here (having mainly lurked), but I have seen Ron involved in a heck of a lot of conflict, with a number of people, across a number of topics. And in this instance, I agree with Zach that Ron's initial response was rude and smug. Ron seems to have trouble with any criticism of his company's product, regardless how valid and subjective they are. Just an observation, your probably a really nice guy Ron! ....... but you can come across as rude and sometimes a little arogant on these forums. I suspect I'm not saying anything that others haven't noticed / are thinking.

The screenshots are from the FS9 version... FSX is very much different because of the advanced texture and material options not available in FS9.
