Hey guys :) I just joined here and hopefully you guys can help me with this slight issue im having. ive followed the tutorial down to the last word, and do what it tells me, but no matter what i cannot get the plane to completely autoland. it will come down to the runway and hover over it but it will not touch down. ive got the localizer set, CMD A and CMD B set, APP set, ils frequency set, HGS set. This is an amazing plane but this is the only thing that i just cannot get ahold of. any help is much appreciated. oh another thing, it says my navdata is outdated so i checked and i have the latest AIRAC, 1108.

Current AIRAC is 1109. About the autoland it seems as autothrottle problem

OH! i thought it was 1108. thanks for that info. autothrottle problem? do you mean it has to be OFF autothrottle and manually set?
Fail Op or Fail Pass?
what is fail op/fail pass?

To be honest, I don't know, yet. All I know is that for LAND3 to work you need to set your jet's autoland options to Fail Op. its in the equipment menu.

Are you bringing your speed down on the MCP after capturing the localizer and glideslope ?When the glideslope diamond starts to move down you should put the landing gear down and set flaps 15.Dial the speed bug down to match the flaps 15 setting. When the speed reduces set flaps 30 and then dial the speed down to match that. You idealy land at VRef + 5 ( park the speed bug just on top of the Vref green number) Just before touchdown you should be about 130 knots. PS. Welcome to the forum !!

so correct me if im wrong but, if the speed is set wrong, the plane wont land? that might be my mistake-leaving autothrottle on and not manually setting it in the MCP.

Leave the autothrottle on !! It disconnects itself just after touchdown.Yes, your speed is very important. It is the mistake most people make at first. You can autoland with fail passive OR fail operational. With fail passive you don't have Rollout so you might need to steer the plane yourself. Make sure both radios are tunes the same for an autoland to work properly.

yes im sorry i didnt mean disconnect the autothrottle. so what youre saying is adjust the speed accordingly. wow, that was probably what i was missing! lol

Yes, like the OP wrote, you have to dial the Speed back to 147 knots ( 142 + 5 for security reasons regarding the wind ) , after having pressed APP ( Glidescope capture ) and added the second Autopilot ( CMD B ).Otherwise the aircraft will maintain the higher speed you experience. Also if you do this all to late the aircraft will not be able to slow down enough and maintain the GS.

I've tried yesterday a full autoland in LFPG and works perfectly only a question Rollout armed what does it mean ?

Marco Negri

That is when you land the autopilot will keep you on the center line of the runway throughout the landing roll... or until you disconnect the autopilot.
