Ok so after realising I had Active Sky X and not Active Sky Evolution, I now have Active Sky Evolution and have applied the settings and will be giving this all a go tonight on some westjet flights over the Rocky Mountains! Heres hoping! But I have no doubts this will create the best weather environment ever!!! Thanks OP for all the work in posting this! Derek

Your most welcome.... One slight change from the original settings above. I had these options set before but did not realize Jims .cfg that day disabled them. I guess it a matter of preferance and whether you have issues with fog or not. After loading ASE click on the Options Button, then Visibility TAB, I have all 3 of those Boxes Checked now.

REX Weather will not affect FSX at all as long as you have the REX Weather Engine disabled. You do not even need to have REX running while using FSX unless your using it for weather. If your just using it for textures like I do, once you have loaded a texture theme you can close REX and do not need to open it again unless you want load a different theme. Once REX is done copying the textures over for FSX to use it's job is then done. If you use something like FSBuild or Flightsim Commander to make your flight plans. You have the option to export to FSX, PMDG, Level-D and other planes etc. For example: If I make a plan from Boston to Dublin. It will save a copy of the flight plan as KBOSEIDW in Flight Simulator X Files Folder (In My Documents Folder) Go to the Desktop open Activesky and click on the Briefing Button. Click on the Change Flight Plan button and then Click on the Import Button. If the path is correct and a flight plan is made you should see it and can import it. After you do that add your Alternate Airport, Cruise speed and Cruise Altitude and then click Process. When it asks you if you want to install a Snapshot you click cancel. The Snapshot is mostly for Xgraphics which is another program by Hi-Fi with Texture themes like REX. If you do not have Xgraphics you would just hit the cancel button when asked to load a snapshot. Now your done and your flight plan is loaded and you will see it on the map. Also anytime you click on the Briefing button with a plan loaded you will see all the weather conditions for the entire route.
Thank you soooooo much!!!!!! I've been trying to figure this out. I use vroute premium, and I always save the plan in the .rte (PMDG), .pln (FSX), and the .pdf (vroute Flight Progress Card), so that'll be easy. By the way, did you see my last post on the FSUIPC and throttle position topic? I'm waiting for your reply. Thanks once again.

Thanks for the WONDERFUL post. I have a comment to make. I went to FSX custom weather tab and selected 'severe turbulence.' While I do experience turbulence, I feel that the settings posted is a little bit weak. What can I change to increase the turbulent effect by a few notches without getting the S-curves with the NGX during LNAV? Thank you! Also, I noticed there is a fair bit of haze/fog it almost looks like a rainy day even though it's a clear/sunny day. I think I need to play with my sky textures a bit.

Thanks Paul for your input. My weather hasn't looked so good as it does now! I think I will continue to load ASE first, then FSX. ASE just seems to work better.

Guys just an update on something I was fooling around with today. If you ever noticed by using the recommended settings for Cloud Draw at 60 nm in FSX and ASE, it just looks like you have a ring of clouds around you. Anyway I looked at some real world videos at 40,000 feet and came up with the following settings. Set cloud draw in FSX to 110 nm, and then in ASE under the Visibility Tab make sure all 3 boxes are checked and set the Max upper visbility range to 90 nm. What happens when you do this is the cloud draw is extending into and past the 90 nm max visibility range and the clouds blend into the horizon so it actually looks very realistic. Of course it will take a toll on your FPS but what I did was turn Autogen to 0. At 40,000 feet your not gonna see anything anyway. When I get ready to descend I will set it back to the 60 nm default and turn autogen back to normal or dense. Never enjoyed the sky as much as today especially when flying over storms.

Paul, I bought FS Commander on your recommendation, and haven't been disappointed. These are perfect settings for me, also. Everything looks so much more realistic. Thanks for your willingness to share.

What I don't understand is...the OP said that we should suppress turbulence in FSUIPC, the OP also said that by doing so this gives ASE control over weather, but wouldn't checking suppress on FSUIPC actually...suppress these effects?

If you read back a couple posts you will see and explanation about the Turbulence. There is not a whole lot you can do. Its either S-turns or Smoother Turbulence. Least I have not been able to find a way to have it both ways whithout the PMDG autopilot going nuts. But I supposed you could fiddle with the FSX.CFG turbulence line and see if that gives you a little stronger turbulence without causing S-turns. The original FSX value is TurbulenceScale=1.000000You could try increasing the value and see what happens. TurbulenceScale=2.500000If you find something that feels realistic and does not cause S-turns report back and let us know. Other than that I don't there is much you can do or it would have already been posted as FSX has been out for a long time and the above settings been pretty much standard since the PMDG 747-400X came out and I have not seen anything better that is realistic.

Paul Deemer

Paul Deemer, I would like to say, once again, THANK YOU. I am going to try what you said later today and will report back. I remember having issues with the PMDG 747 with wind smoothing. I am hoping that by clicking on the weather settings off button wouldn't give me issues with wind smoothing on the NGX. Or can I leave that on and everything else off?

Actually your correct I just found this out myself. Its sort of like going into FSUIPC interface and turning all weather settings off but 3 things are still getting used an suppressed in FSUIPC. Turbulence, Gusts and Variance. I tried Completely removing all weather settings in FSUIPC with these disabled as well. Soon as I did the 747-400 started S-turning until I checked the 3 Boxes again. You might wanna play around with them and uncheck one at a time see what you experience and if you come up with anything good let us know. In other words your now a Lab Rat! Get to Work! LOL.gif

These are the settings I gave to Ryan when the NGX was in Beta. (ant to Paul) Give them a try if you wish. Higrab, those settings above are for the 747 and MD11 should you wish to try them. Not for the NGX. Please use Paul's settings for the NGX. I made an error at the post above, they are not for the NGX. Sorry for any confusion.
