Flight project cancelled/on hold

Recommended Posts

I do feel that Mathjis is right though; those of us playing with flight simulators are only going to be getting older, the young folks just aren't interested.
I take it you haven't been on any of the FSX Gamespy multiplayer servers, it's like a kindergarten. laugh.png

All good points here! I hope anyone senior in the industry other than Mathijs or John is keeping tabs on all this. Some of these stats are fascinating. I always wondered why I saw so few Asian airports and flyers (although xplane has a few, some good freeware airports, eg shanghai).Maybe we all need to get into those console forums (ugh) and brag about what we can do on pcs. There must be a few like me- I'm "just over 40", but have played all the consoles most of the way. I have a PS3, 2 and 1. I never bothered with a pc at home for serious flying until 2 yrs ago, as the pc hardware was so expensive and performance so bad.Aftter giving up on the crap flying games 2yrs ago, I've had a ball with xplane9 and now fsx. Anyone notice a pattern here? Affordability/performance? Now there's another major barrier- convenience. Playing Granturismo 5 in your loungeroom, on a 46 inch screen, is nice! Flying my PMDG over LFPO in my study isn't as exciting to a teenager! Though my 5yo loves it. Now we have iPads and phones to contend with (no Sony, your Vita will not be successful. Cancel it, put all you money into your HMDs, call it the Viewman!)One thing we all need to do is keep supporting our developers, to keep our market healthy and encourage development. I know I'm doing my bit, it's a tough job!

Could you imagine trying to fly an ILS approach on your Blackberry?
Ha, if they knew what an ILS was! But I've tried it on the iPhone (xplane), almost impossible with that tiny screen and a bumpy train trip.

It is possible add-on box sales in German retail outlets help there?I suspect in the US that's not as big. The main thing is to judge Flight on its content when it’s done ;)

Payt, I hope I'm wrong. You are correct my mind is getting hijacked by all the hype. LOL, I know its only a game but we have to believe it can be more than just a game. WellMS needs to believe at the very least. I hear ya though and I think I need a cup of coffee... Mathijs, I am honored to get a response from you being the huge contributor to our hobby that you are. I also would like to thank you for all you have done! Rant is correct, maybe one tomany glasses of wine... I have to say MS decline in numbers of purchases is due to marketing and creativity. This is obviously my own opinion. If I mention FSX to most of my friends theyhave no idea. They don't even know about Avsim and the community that exist. I have a friend that didn't even know you could purchase add-on airports. Yes, his wife hates me now but hisbank loves me... LOL ;) MS needs to get those minds back to work and create something they can be excited about. On top of that marketing needs a lot of help! Yes this is big community but as you know to generate a new generation they need to get back on track. Like show up to Airshows and events where aviation enthusiast will be attending. Advertise to parents that children can use this as a learning tool, geography, math, science of flight, time zones, weather as you know the list goes on. I think most of all just to give someone the taste of flight in a semi safe manner ;) Mathijs, again an honor and hope you all keep up the great work...! And thanks to you and your team. I guess I'm just say I hope I'm wrong a like Payt they are starting to hijack my mind which is sad...! I see some much potential and feel the have lost sight of what it could be! Now if what we have been seeing is just the tip of the iceberg the MS I'm liking some of what I'm seeing. :) I will just have to wait and see. If I'm doing a phone search on the day of release trying to be one of the first people with a copy then all is good. Hope you all have a great night/day depending on when you read... One thing is for sure, we do appreciate all those like Aersoft, Avsim, PMDG, FlightBeam, FSDT, FlyTampa, REX, ORBX, ECZA, SimMarket, Flightsim Store, TrackIR, LINDA, Logitech, VRinsight, Flight Deck Solutions, Flight1.com, Carenado ok this list just goes on....! Sorry if I missed you...! Thanks everyone take care....! Yikes I need to get on here before I have dinner and a glass of wine... LOL Oh well....!

For being able to continue the hobby into the future, it may be a good idea to learn how... tongue.png

Actually, the ILS would be easier to fly on a Blackberry than the visual. Just hit the APP button and follow the glide slope. Eh?

You can land the Space Shuttle on an iPhone these days, and it looks surprisingly impressive!

I think we can safely assume that Mathijs and his contacts have a clear idea on how large the serious FS market is. They can see it in the sales of their add-ons. Flightsims will have to innovate and change to appeal to the current day market. FS-X +1 will only appeal to us addicts so the flightsim market is stagnating. Its like many of the old big genres/pc sellers. Adventures, combat flight sims and wargames once they where big genres and there were many releases per year. Now there are only a few specialised developers and most releases are download only. A basic flightsim with good community/chat options might be just what we need. Give it some detailed area's and a fun mission structure (cargo hauler, sightseeing, forest fire spotting, etc). Make tie-ins with TV shows like Flying Wild Alaska via a scenery and mission pack. Younger gamers need structure and fun in their games. After they get hooked they still have the option to upgrade to prepar3d.

If you're making the reply in an external program and then doing a copy/paste you will pick up additional formatting code from that external program. If you're using the forum's Reply mode, I would guess you were totally drunk and spaced out... Whistle.gif
