NGX: Cold & Dark to CDU Preflight Complete

Thanks, gents!

But how is it in RW, does the RW CDU have a Prflg Complete Page?
I don't know, Wayne. I *think* that it depends on the version of FMC software that is installed in a particular real-world plane. Maybe a real-world 737 pilot can answer.

If it shows, the message will show on the takeoff Ref page when all the boxed items are completed. It might be based on FMC version, I'm not sure. The last place I flow had 800/900s with U10.8A and it did show. Right now I'm in the 400 with U10.7, and it doesn't show.

Keep up the good work. I have yet to be able to do the cold and dark startup. This will help immensely. Don

I hope it does - else be sure to let me know smile.png Another forum user, Bernhard, was kind enough to PM me with some errors and typos that he found (thanks again, Bernhard). I will update the document in the next day or so, but until then there is one correction that I'd like to pass on right away regarding the way that the IRS position is entered into the CDU. Bernhard wrote, referencing page 31: lines 3 etc.: Both ways of entering an IRS position are flawed: 1. The aircraft could have been towed after powering down, so LAST POS could be wrong. 2. Using external FSX data could be considered cheating, and you don't need to. In fact there is one simple and reliable way to do this: Pushing the NEXT PAGE button on the CDU will get you to the POS INIT 2/3 page that shows the current coordinates provided by both GPS recievers. Just copy one to the scratchpad, hit PREV PAGE and up-select it into the SET IRS POS boxes.

Hi Tom, I usually rely with the FSX coordination i.e. hit Shift + Z and copy the coordination to the FMC.. Is that correct shortcut?

Hello Patrick - Yes, Shift-Z will give you the lat/lon of the aircraft. Bernhard's method is more realistic, though.

Thanks Tom for this necessary manual that should have been included with the NGX - New to the PMDG 737NGX, after many hours on the Level D 767 and Qsim 757 I couldn't believe the large realistic leap to the PMDG 737 (information overload). After following the PMDG NGX tutorial for the flight from Gatwick to Amsterdam, I notice that the engines were running in the tutorial, mine wasn't and would not start even using the panel state menus, no end of searching found a start sequence in the immense material provided. Your manual has helped me get airborne, many thanks

Good going, Tom. I hope you don't get burned out digging for the details and leave us hanging. We are beginning to depend on you for all the solid, necessary information. I sure hope the ones that should be doing this kind of stuff is working hard on the 600/700, SP1 and Military variants. Ray

This is quality stuff and must have taken days. PMDG should pay you for it, stick their logo on the front and call it Tutorial II.

Francisco - I removed the files from my server a couple of hours ago. I've uploaded the final version to the Avsim file library, and at the moment I'm waiting for an administrator to approve the upload. I'll post an update when the file is available.
