Sydney Airport

The charge of OrbX arrogance is oft-repeated, and while no fan of John Venema's sometimes abrasive approach, I think in this case it's only fair to emphasise the he was discussing OrbX doing YSSY in the context of OrbX's AU scenery. I suggest that it is the combination of whatever they came up with for YSSY and the intense scenery area around it that would conspire to render it much more difficult and labour-intensive.

Mir may well be looking at it purely as an airport set within default terrain and in that context, it would seem like a fairly straightforward rendition. How many users would bother with a top notch payware YSSY and not plan to use it with the OrbX AU scenery, though?

I think it's just proof that Orbx should stick to small airports and great scenery and work with a much more capable developer for airport scenery. My rig comes to a crippling halt when flying near their YMML. They just do not know how to make framerate friendly big airports. But sadly they come up with strange excuses like "it's too big" (How did FSDT do JFK then?)

I can never understand why they do sceneries that are so "future proof" with so much detail that we're forced to dial down the sliders. I mean we're actually going backwards in terms of FSX PC technology with the current Ivy Bridge being worse than the old Sandy Bridge because of poor overclock performance.

By the way, this is by NO MEANS any confirmation that Flightbeam will be developing YSSY. Our roadmap is currently in review.

I can't tell you how much I'd love you to tackle Sydney, my hometown. I own your San Francisco scenery and it is best in class as far as I'm concerned. True FSX technology with crisp textures and excellent performance. I do hope you'll consider doing Sydney. Please let me know if I can help; I live less then 5 miles from the airport.

Cheers,

Alex

Orbx doesn't event want to develop the goldcoast airport (originally planned). You'll never see them develop yssy.

How does ORBX Cairns affect frames? Is it as bad as Brisbane and Melbourne? I would like to fly in Oz but if the sceneries are frame rate unfriendly, I will stick to flying everywhere else.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. FSX has been out for around 6 years, and all there is is one "payware" YSSY (how can CLS even call that payware). How many people want a decent YSSY? I'm not a scenery designer, but I will see what I can do...if I get enough interest. It is such a shame that no one has made a decent SYD representation in FSX.
