October 4, 201114 yr For over 18 months, I had stability issues with FSX. I would have the animation freeze that many other had....where everything stops...but the sound still runs in the background. I had CTD brought on by any number .dll's. I felt for sure that it was a graphics issue...or perhaps a problem with 3rd party scenery taxing my system too hard. No matter what though...and no matter what I tried to do by means of graphic-based 'solutions'....ultimately, I would be right back where I started with CTD's and freeze-ups. Sometimes the obvious...just plain...isn't Replacing my Creative Titanium Sound Card driver with the BETA posted to the Creative Support Site on September 12, has brought FSX to absolute stability. I just ended a fabulous 8 hour flight from KORS, right down the California coastline towards San Diego in a Saratoga at 10,000 ft....with not one issue, CTD, or freeze-up. It was never FSX. It was a Creative sound driver that undermined FSX's stability along with interfacing with DX9. Plain and simple. To anybody that has ANY kind of instability issues with FSX....see if you can change out your present Creative (x) driver for anything either custom, BETA, or otherwise. If you can...you will most likely have solved all of your problems...whether they showed up as a 'graphic rendering' issue, sound...whatever. If you have another sound card other then from Creative Ltd...try still to swap out your present sound card driver. With FSX now running until I decide to end the session, I quite frankly am quite relaxed about whatever M.S. does with FLIGHT. If they bring it to the market, fine. If they don't....that's now fine as well. If you can side-step any frustration with your use of FSX, it really is a marvelous product supported by $$$'s of after market add ons, lol. Happy flying everybody....and I hope all those that still have any type of stability or performance issue, ultimately finds their own Holy Grail solution!!! I think for most though...it will turn out to be the sound driver crashing FSX...and only finding that out after they can come up with another driver then the present one they are using....and FSX crashing with.... Cheers, Mitch'er

October 5, 201114 yr Author This is a total dejavu. I swore I read this post the other day but its impossible sincw you just posted it. Very weird, maybe I need to get more sleep.------------------------------------------------------------------ No Jim, you don't need more sleep, lol...I posted a few days ago similarly. The reason that I didn't just want to add onto my other post...was that this (in my opinion) is a real show stopper for so many that have lamented in the CTD forum. All of the symptoms, graphic/sound/CTD's that were being posted about, with HELP in the asking, were also beleaguering my system. All of them Nobody to date (and this was over months to years...for some) had a definitive solution that showed a complete reversal from a unstable FSX...to totally stable, until now. This is serious stuff :) I'd rather risk some person's annoyance at putting this find into a differently worded format, with added thoughts from the original----so 'creating a reminder' post----than to have someone who does not have a stable and enjoyable FSX experience---and, who just might miss my original post, and or not click on it again. You can just imagine someone finally getting a return to a stable running of FSX, by taking the few seconds to read and or reread this important head's up. My feelings anyway.... This post also suggests that even if you don't have a Creative product, ...do try and update whatever sound hardware you have with a new or custom driver----if the user has any type of freeze and or CTD. Dat's all, folks..... Mitch

October 5, 201114 yr Author This statement is totally and completely and utterly unbelievable! My feelings anyway.... Best regards,Jim--------------------------------------------- Why so? I report the truth. I report what happens via my interaction with this hobby through my own experience with FSX, good or bad. Truth 1: For 18 months, FSX crashed after about 5-10 minutes, or if not CTD...then a animation with sound freeze. Truth 2: It was so demoralizing (with nobody able to offer a certified way to end the problem, other then speculation as why this was happening for some...I frankly stopped buying any add on scenery or aircraft for FSX. I went back to FS9 for a complete flight. I read the CTD forum and tried any lead, mostly graphic related and or .cfg file related. Nothing, absolutely nothing worked to end random and sporadic CTD's or animation freeze ups with sound in the background. Nothing..... Truth 3: Occasionally, I go back to the Creative Support Site for my particular SoundBlaster card...and was delighted to see there FINALLY....a new driver to try whether it be BETA or not. Truth 4: I installed via their wrapper. I rebooted. That was on the 14th of September. Truth 5: Since the afternoon of the 14th of September, I have not had one crash, one freeze up. Not one! I can fly for literally hours, and over ANY placement in the world. ORBX scenery flows like butter, with no more holding of my breath around Seattle, or anywhere else for that matter. This was amazing! Truth 6: I waited for over three weeks for a fault to happen, before I posted. No more "well..it SEEMED to work...but for only a short time...". Truth 7: All the other crashes that displayed another area (graphics.... terrain.dll BEX.dll g3d.dll) that seemed to have NOTHING to do with sound, have not showed their faces after the BETA sound driver install swap-out. There is a sound driver problem that so seriously undermines FSX running inside DX9, that it sets up FSX for the merest excuse to fail and CTD or freeze. Truth 8: Unless you wish to think of me as being a liar---and stating comments that simply are false....then when I type that by ONLY replacing my Creative SoundBlaster driver with their new BETA...and now have a totally stable, wonderful, and solid FSX experience, you'll will have to believe that I am stating a fact for you to consider. End of Truth Series Mitch

October 5, 201114 yr Author You sure know how to do that. I wonder what will happen when you'll try Prepar3D --------------------------------------- You know Jean-Paul, after seeing that FSX is now a thing to behold (love the latest SHADE..and ONLY day's ago bought it, because I now can actually fly and enjoy FSX!), I couldn't care less about another version of FSX or whether frankly....FLIGHT comes to market, and in what configuration. Before that...I was a FLIGHT FORUM junkie...because that was my only hope to be able to fly a flight and end it on the far numbers.... With SHADE bringing such sweetness to the visual....I am now with a solid performing FSX...am quite content to explore every lake, river, valley, forest, plains....everything inside the ORBX world...and also now will consider purchasing the Central Rockies. Why? Because I now can enjoy it...plain and simple from one runway to the other..... Like others, I am curious about any differences that LM has between FSX and P3D. Certainly...but now I don't have a sense of user-desperation, as I had before the new sound driver install. I guess, if LM changes dramatically its version of FSX....then like others, I'd probably give it a try for myself. But as it stands now, a totally working FSX is supplying that post- FS9 'hit'. :) If others can benefit from a post or three from me....it even makes me happier! Cheers, and happy flying.... Mitch'er
