"I think tom and team should upload their yearly costs of running avsim...."Jason, well, I will give you a challenge. We average somewhere in the vicinity of 320 to 350 gigabytes A DAY of library files, forum traffic, web pages, hosted sites, etc. etc (please correct me if I am wrong Matt). That's over 9 terrabytes a month. Go get a quote on that from a colocation service or web site provider. I will be interested to see what you come up with. :-lolHave a look at: http://library.avsim.net/mbperiodgraphpic.php?Period=30And keep in mind that is file library downloads ONLY. Not forum traffic or web pages or anything else. :)We are all proud on the AVSIM team of what we provide the community daily and that we do so, and will continue to do so, for free. If other folks think there is a conspiracy in that, good for them.

Well I have to say this site is great. I dont have to click a million links to get to the forums and same goes for the File library and I like not having to try and find an open node. :-roll Keep doing what your doing it's seems to be working just fine. Thanks you for the siteAndrew

"That's over 9 terrabytes a month."KACHING!!!!!!!

Thanks AVSIM..... you're an awesome site, Thanks to all the AVSIM staff!!!!!!

Well it is time for my two cents. First off I can not believe that anyone can honestly believe that garbage, that is something out of an extremely paranoid mind. Tom, why don't you send out your secret police force to deal with such people? :-lol Ferdy must be extremely jealous of your site, Avsim is without a doubt the best this hobby has to offer, there are no hassles here. I always have instant access, for free and no log ins, fast, easy and free downloads and easy access to the forums. In my opinion no one else comes close to the quality that Avsim provides, for free. When you are at the top of your game people become jealous of your standing and jealous minds create all kinds of reasons why that person should not have the fame and why they deserve it more than the other. Ferdy has a huge ego, you can easily see that in many things that he has written and in his mind he thinks that everything that he does is right and good and everyone that "opposes" him is bad. I once had a discussion with a friend who is a psychologist and a fellow flight sim enthusiast about Ferdy and he said that he shows all the signs of someone who is ego driven and can justify anything he does as being right no matter how wrong it is. No one will ever convince him that he is wrong, his ego will not allow it. I just find it sad that some people can not see around their ego. What it comes down to is the majority of us simmers know, Avsim is the best, hands down. I have yet to see anything that causes me to question the motives of Avsim. They provide a service which is unrivaled and they strive to make it better for us, who can question that? Keep it up Avsim, you do a fantastic job! Thanks for listening to my two cents, and no you don't get any change back! :-lol Philip

Hi,I pity the poor soul who wrote that Readme. Maybe he thinks freeware is like the spice Malange, and "He who controls the Spice, controls the universe!"All I know is that I really appreciate Avsim. The file library, the reviews, the forums, the hosting of projects(for instance HJG, Project Fokker, ect). And I have downloaded a ton of stuff! I hope to have shown my appreciation and help out a little by sending a small donation of $40 via PayPal a few months back, completely unsolicited and without being brainwashed(I hope).Viva Avsim!Jim - KDEN

Is it possible to download 170mb from allnodesarebusy.com ?It takes me 30 min to download a 2mb files on cable whereas on avsim it would take 10 seconds :-eek

Hi all:well, I just sent off the email below to CapMason BEFORE seeing the discussion here. I wonder how many others might have sent emails too? Nevertheless, I think that leaving a file like that on any FS webserver's site is not a good thing, that's why I'm asking them to remove it. It'll be interesting to see how flightsim responds.Cheers, Holger---Hello:My name is Holger Sandmann and I'd like to state my strong objection regarding the read-me.txt file contained in James Horschell's ukfull10.zip add-on mesh file, posted in your file library on Jan 23, 2004.As a mesh designer I was curious about this new add-on mesh and tried to find information about how it was made etc. (before downloading). Instead I was "treated" to a long diatribe against Avsim, essentially a call for a boycott.I consider this text to be a diatribe because:- it contains no useful information about the add-on files in the package- it is written in inflammatory language- it contains statements and phrases of which only the authors (if that) know whether they are true or false - it is irrational (e.g., accusing avsim of practices that those sites listed as the "good guys" openly condone)I have no problem with freeware developers stating in their documentation that they don't want to have their files uploaded to specific sites; I have done this myself. If the author has specific reasons for this, he/she should provide a link to his/her private website. What I object to is that someone uses your library to further their own agenda and that keeping ukfull10.zip on your server in its current state would set an unfortunate precedence.I'd like to ask you to remove this file from your library and ask the author to remove or alter the read-me.txt file before re-uploading. I would have cc'd this email to the author but the read-me.txt file does not contain an email address (the file package contains a read-me.doc, which may or may not contain one, but a .doc isn't accessible through the pre-view option); feel free to forward my message to James Horschell. Please let me know what steps you're taking regarding ukfull10.zip.Thank you for your time.Holger SandmannP.S.: For the record, I have no affiliation with avsim and would have written the same letter if this kind of file would have shown up at simviation or avsim.P.P.S.: On a humorous note: I had to laugh out loud when I read the statement "...a lot of us that remember those halcyon days when freeware was a lot freeer..." - Well, if those days in fact existed, they didn't include the costs to host 170MB files like ukfull10.zip ;-)

Ooooooh This gives me a chance to ask a question about the File Library, I've always wondered if it was coming. Now that the catagory list for different programs and their versions grows it makes for a very messy "New files" list. I've wondered if there was PHP or something in our future that would allow us to say use a pulldown menu or something and see just all new files for FS2004? It would seem like a big bandwidth saver to me. Sometimes I'll come around and to check out 2 weeks or so worth of newest files and wanting to dl Oldest first I may have to go 100 pages in! But if only let say FS2004 was being shown it maybe only 25-30 pages, not 100 pages with of text & thumbnails 'needlessly' being downloaded.

Y'know folks...I'm sick to death of being forced to accept FREE software with absolutely NO effort or hassle. I think I'm going to go and pay good money to someone who doesn't deserve it so that I can be ripped-off repeatedly by paying for freeware...and I'll love every minute of being bounced around dead links and full nodes and being told to check back later....;);)HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!!What a tw@t that guy is.....he's just jealous...Avsim is the first port of call for me, to check whats new, see the run-down of new files, download a few if they are of interest, follow a few of those news stories, and enter this forum, which is always entertaining!!! Without Avsim I would never have experienced the delights of the POSKY, iFDG, and dare I mention, the FFX aircraft. A few days ago, whenever, I read the article about Heathrow Pro, followed to the website, checked it out...went back later and got the demo, and then an hour later I'd gone back and payed for it..it's fabulous.... :)Thank you Avsim for all the downloads, and thank you for the news that some clot doesn't seem able to spot. It's no wonder that developers such as POSKY, iFDG, Gary Summons, etc use Avsim to 'advertise' themselves...it's easy to read, easy to download, and all neatly arranged in a decent file system, and it's no wonder that Avsim get these awards....for all the above reasons, plus the archive is bigger than any other that I've found so far.....It is a clear leader in this type of site, many others should look to it for examples of how things SHOULD be done....I must admit that I would be a little miffed, but if Asim did have to start charging a user fee, I would be prepared to pay, purely because I know that I can get files and info that I want here, unlike with some of those 'other' sites.Big thumbs-up, and Kudos, to Avsim :)

I think someone just has way too much free time on their hands..

Answer = No :)But....Dust off your FTP manager (or download one and learn all its nuances) and in the not too distant future, you will be one with the library grasshopper! :-lol

:-lol :-lolGood ol Ferdy is back to his old tricks. Interesting."2 Eg: POSKY. Why is it that POSKY use their files to promote Avsim but shame FS Planet in them?haha guess Ferdy didn't like me putting "This file may not be uploaded to fsplanet.com" in my readme files :-lol
