compare of 2 Carenados,real,xplane, fsx

Recommended Posts

The real shot is from a captured pre digital video I took about 10 years ago so it has the worst quality-lol (actual video on youtube under geofa lake almanor). This is xplane 9 default and fsx with a ton of add ons...looking forward to xplane 10! Personally I find the colors of the scenery of xplane much more realistic but the cockpit of fsx superior. The landing, takeoff and general feel once in the air of xplane much superior to fsx-but flying by the numbers much more superior on fsx. The sounds of xplane (including a correct sound change for rpm-something fsx has never quite done right) great-but the stereo sounds rendition of fsx better. The cockpit of xplane not as clear as fsx, and the outside view not as spectacular. The water of xplane and shadows much more convincing than fsx, but the tree coverage and landclass of fsx much better. The shorelines of xplane much more convincing but the rendering of the distant peaks much better in fsx. The runways of xplane looking more convincing and the runways of fsx looking too neon and sticking out way more than in real life. Then there are the flock of birds I hit on one takeoff in xplane-very cool...Oddly-the fps in fsx almost twice as good with similar settings...Nice to have both-lots of good in both sims!

Guest Ps762

Hi!Many thanks for the post. I must say in my opinion the FsX shots looks much better than Xplane because of the autogen and stuff. I just wish the clouds didn't kill my fps so much in FsX or I'd be flying it a lot more! Many thanks.P.

The one thing that has me going back to xplane is this Carenado aircraft. Again, it doesn't do so well by the numbers and doesn't look quite as slick as the fsx version but landing , takeoff, and cruise are the most believable thing I've experienced in a sim-and that makes it quite compelling! Hopefully xplane 10 will take care of the other concerns.

Thanks Geofa, good to know what a real world GA pilot has to say.The 'popping out' of FS-any-version runways phenomenon is noticeable more than neededSam

Hello Geofa,I am wondering if you can share a bit more on what numbers are off for the Bonanza. Are you seeing performance related inaccuracies with fuel burn rate, climb, etc?I like this aircraft a lot, almost as much as the A36.Thank you again for posting!

Hi Keith,It is more like on takeoff trimming for vy, when raising the landing gear the real plane's nose would lower by itsef and pretty much find cruise climb speed, or pulling back to 15" in the winter 17' in the summer takes you right to the top of flap speed, and lowering the gear at this point gives you a nice 500 fpm descent for glideslope-power settings that you know produce numbers that you can count on in instrument flying. I also get a manifold pressure of 27" at 10,000 ft! The fsx planes usually allow you to simulate this area very well.On the other the xplane plane "feels" more like the real plane in handling-landings especially which on fsx feel more like rail landings and I actually find hard to do. The dutch rolling in cruise in xplane really makes it feel like the real deal, and takeoffs are better too.
