November 20, 201114 yr Guys, I bought the FS2Crew NG CTB today and now I'm thinking of getting some AoA stuff, I have some questions. So, to date only 4 videos have been made...so what is it like one a month is getting made? How long is each video, is it very very in depth? Can I download the videos (can't stream youtube here with my ISP), what is the support documentation all about? I really really want it but $50 is a lot for a person like me and I don't want AoA to get too video 10 and then kick the bucket you know what I mean? Anyways if anyone here has this AoA thing, please let me know what its like and if it is worth it. I really dont want to watch videos that tell me what a switch does, but videos that show me what it is, where it is, when its used, when its not....etc etc etc. I am very very nervous to pay for something that hasn't been finished yet (only 4 videos?)Cheers Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
November 20, 201114 yr Although I could go on a big rant in regards to the rate at which the NGX training is being released... I won't. All I will say is that it is incredibly slow (about one a month / maybe one every 3 weeks at most). But the quality is AMAZING. The training is more in depth than anyone would have imagined, I'm willing to bet the AOA team themselves didn't realize the extent of the project when they undertook it - hence the slow release of videos. But to answer some of your questions:The videos that have been released to date are around 15 - 30 mins in length, depending on the section of training.Yes you can download the videos. So far they have been between 200 - 400MB in size and may get larger as the bigger sections are released. The support documentation you get is very cool. Expect things like training guides, cockpit schematics, aircraft specifications etc. They are really detailed too.Although $50 may seem like a lot of money, you won't miss it. That price is ridiculously cheap for the quality and scope of training you are paying for. It's definitely a steal. Just don't expect to see your money's worth right away. I don't think I'll be completely satisfied with my purchase until groundwork is complete. But nevertheless, I don't regret buying it. If your strapped for cash and don't want to spend money on something you won't get straight away, my advice would be to hold off a few months for a few more releases and save a bit. Then go for the Captain's Package, that way you will get the Groundwork, Flightwork and Linework - It's cheaper in the long run.Hope that gives you some guidance.----On another note. The AOA team is aware things aren't progressing fast enough and they are doing their best to speed things up. So hopefully in time the training videos will start to release with shorter intervals.---P.S. It appears I did end up ranting on a bit doesn't it. Hehe. Luke Cerff
November 20, 201114 yr AOA makes great videos, true the pacing is slow, but they don't rush their work. Their 747 & MD11 videos are great!
November 20, 201114 yr Commercial Member I'm in the same boat as Ron and I'll be holding out for the Captain's package; I'd rather be able to watch them all back to back, if necessary. A little taster isn't enough to get me on board, yet, I'm afraid. November 20, 201114 yr Moderator I bought their DVD for the LDS 767 years ago and loved it but they lost me when they went to online streaming videos. If I could wait until the whole package is complete and buy a dvd for the NGX training I would surely buy it, but I hate downloading or watching streaming videos on my computer. I wait until I have a reasonable disk-full (the 4 737NG ones so far easily fit). Because they are only 720p (not 1080p) they also run fine on an iPad.RegardsPete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. November 20, 201114 yr Author Ok, cool thanks guys. I think I'll wait until they finish the entire project. Hopefully I won't know too much about NGX from RW pilots making youtube videos! I then place them on my NAS and stream the HD videos to my HD TV. Doesn't get much better than that and the quality is far superior to that of DVD which is 480P.
