December 4, 201114 yr FSX can only handle 3.5GB as it is a 32-bit application.Aaron G.No, FSX can handle 4GB.You can access 4 gig. Go to Daniel Pistelli's site -:-http://www.ntcore.com/index.php..and look for 4-gig Patch. Unpack it, run the exe, browse for fsx.exe and click 'Open'. It will allow fsx to access up to the 4-gig limit.Second - don't let Windows control your swap space: Choose 'Custom', and 12288 in each box - 12288 in Min and 12288 in the Max box, apply it and reboot.Sorry Paul, but you are wrong too: no need to do that with fsx.exe, FSX is already able to use 4GB without any patching.Concerning swap, there is no difference in usage - with 8GB RAM you can as easily as deactivate swapping alltogether and still use FSX to it's full potential.Just checked my VAS with FSX and it was 3.4-3.8 , so very high.My LOD is just 5.5 so I have to check other things , like medium textures for the 737NGX.I don't have as many addons as you have, but 3.8 is very high and risky, especially if overflying an airport like EDDF - it's gonna block.Only chance is lowering LOD, removing addons and lowering texture usage (4096-1024).
December 4, 201114 yr All those intense addons and pushing the LOD higher and you wonder why you are having problems?Follow Word Not Allowed's advice in the post above. VAS in the end was 3.3gb.

December 4, 201114 yr Yo all. I haven't posted here in a while...been playing with my new retirement toy (motorcycle) and riding all over the country for the past numerous months (er...since February). But me thinks you are all missing a crucial point to the OP's problem. He is running a TH2G at 5040 x 1050 screen resolution across 3 screens. I have been using a TH2G for over 6 years now and currently run the same 5040 x 1050 resolution with FSX. You simply can't pump up the texture resolutions (4096), WX resolutions (4096), LOD radius (6.0+...although I CAN do 8.0 using ONLY photorealistic scenery), massive addon airports, a PMDG-level addon like the NG737, a bunch of AI traffic, UTX night lighting, and the plethora of other things he has set at higher settings, and expect FSX not to eventually croak at 5040 x 1050.Gerard: You have a powerfull enough system to run FSX with all the settings you are using...if you run on a single screen monitor at a max resolution for that monitor. With the TH2G though, you gotta make some compromises if you want to get decent results at 5040 x 1050. That's a ton of pixels you and I are pushing, with the associated increases in the required textures, etc, you have to load. If FSX isn't getting "fed" fast enough (which can easily happen at 5040 x 1050), you are gonna get pauses and stutters and graphics spiking...and even OOM's under certain circumstances. Many of the fsx.cfg tweaks you are gonna hear about that work for someone on a one-monitor system aren't going to help you at all on your TH2G 5040 x 1050 setup. By all means try them, but be aware they may NOT be the answer to ALL your problems. You gotta go try stuff yourself until you find a "sweet spot" for the 5040 x 1050. And make no mistake...the "sweet spot" is going to be quite different as far as FSX settings are concerned, depending on if you are using photorealistic scenery or not, whether you are flying in urban vs "outback" scenery areas, etc, etc. I have TEN DIFFERENT fsx.cfg files I can load prior to a flight, depending on the type of flying and aircraft (complexity) I will be using. At 5040 x 1050 TH2G, you simply aren't going to "get away" with just ONE magical fsx.cfg file (and in-game settings) for ALL your different types of flying.Respectfully submitted. Rick Ryan
December 5, 201114 yr Author I was always able to fly this same route with the CS757.After having upgraded the 737NGX to Sp1, Frankfurt airport, GAP 2 to the lastest version and MT X to v5.4+ Mt Live this behaviour has started. When using windowed mode I can finish the flight and VAS never exceeds 3.3 GB.The fullscreen image is only 3 inch wider in view. And I have set the Generic settings in Nv Inspector to the same as for FSX.So there has to be more to it.Does anybody know of a program that can monitor the VAS and total system memory used when using fullscreen, so in case of an Out of Memory I can look back in the log file ? 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
December 5, 201114 yr The guys over at FSL state the following about the full screen mode and recommend the windowed variant. It may be more pronounced on heavy planes, as we may call the Concorde and the NGX for example. A final note:There is a CLEAR, REPEATABLE bug with FSX and texture memory. It's repeatable, even with the default TRIKE, even with NO ADDONS running whatsoever. That bug is what a lot of you have seen happen when aircraft textures and/or scenery disappears. If you're interested in reproducing it, install FSX SP2, then switch to full screen, go to external view, then Virtual Cockpit view, then back to 2D view a couple times, then switch back to windowed mode. Do the above a few times and, depending on your setup, the entire world will become black with flickering white textures.During our beta testing period, we proved this is due to FSX itself. Repeatedly. Then, we ran FSX in 'debug mode', removing its internal 'anti-Direct-X debug' protection mechanism, so we could detect what's going on. The results were very interesting (although again, outside the scope of this post). Our advice on that: Run FSX in windowed mode. If you REALLY want to run it in Full Screen mode, expect these issues to happen, especially if you switch views constantly. The only way, possibly, to prevent them, for awhile, is to run in a single view consistently (i.e. VC, or 2D). Even then, there are no promises. So we say again: Run. FSX. In. Windowed. Mode. Thanks for reading . http://forums.flight...ments-pc-specs/

I've seen this bit of advice before but always completely ignore it. I don't understand how you could run FSX in a window?! Spend thousands on addons that improve realism, and then run the lot with a windows border around it? Um... ok. All immersion gone for me. Which is why I've always been fascinated by the bit of advice regarding running in a window... I think I'd honestly rather not run it at all.
