December 20, 201114 yr Captain Sim is doing an 'everything for 10 Euro' day on Dec 22....is PMDG contemplating something like that? I've had my eye on the MD11 for a long time but can't afford the price unfortunately :(C'mon Rob...lets see some xmas spirit ;) J Thomas YBBN

I've had my eye on the MD11 for a long time but can't afford the price unfortunately :sad:C'mon Rob...lets see some xmas spirit ;)JT - it's worth spending the money on the MD-11 if you can manage it. Admittedly I haven't flown it since the NGX but I'm sure I will again soon. I don't recall seeing PMDG offering 'specials' in the past but I may be wrong.Tom YMML
December 20, 201114 yr Can i ask what the frames are like with the md11, i too am thinking about it (for a while) and now we have the ngx, would it be like going backwards compared to the ngx visuals? Chris Howard

But I just recently forked out for the NGX + 600/700 series and, whilst I absolutely LOVE these birds, every time I see a FEDEX MD11 parked at the cargo apron at YSSY airport...I longingly wish I had the MD11. $80 is still $80 even with the exchange rates being what they are.well..can only try aye? :) J Thomas YBBN
December 20, 201114 yr Looking at the VC the NGX is ahead but the MD11 is also very good. I myself fly the NGX and MD11 equally. I have no trouble of switching between the aircraft. The frames are much better on the MD11, for it lags very seldom where as the NGX lags on every airport. It costs a lot but it is worth every penny. I must say that it still is my favorite add-on . Manfred G. Ships are cooler that you think.
December 20, 201114 yr You can find the Aerosoft box version of the MD-11 on Amazon for about 50 bucks. "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
December 20, 201114 yr Author really? $50? not bad. I'd much prefer the $$ go straight to PMDG but hey I'll take it. Thanks for the heads up. J Thomas YBBN

December 21, 201114 yr The MD-11 isn't too hard to convert to from the Boeing 'way'. A little reading and practice and you should be fine. The Autopilot system takes a little getting used to. FMS is a little different in terms of data entry. You will find the MD-11 is more automated than the Boeings...closer to the Airbus style in some respects. Many of the overhead panel systems are automatically operated. The is a similar push button system to the Airbus with most systems either already 'on' or 'auto' and you simply turn 'on' the master system buttons. While they are all on Auto you don't really have to do anything except to switch to Manual to test their operation during the preflight. There is a really good article for Boeing pilots transitioning to the MD-11 on the PMDG knowlege database.http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a18/tips-for-boeing-pilots-learning-the-md-11.aspxI find the MD-11 visually is still quite good in the VC...better night lighting than the 747, and is a great bird to hop in if you want to do some long haul or cargo runs.Cheers,TJ "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley

December 21, 201114 yr Author damn you Tom!! lolNothing beats the rows of MD11Fs parked at YSSY though upwards of 5 or more I think...all purple. Funny though..my understanding is that they only fly into YSSY and then onto ZSPD or something from there. J Thomas YBBN
December 21, 201114 yr My finger has been itching for some time on buying this bird. Has anyone bought this since the NGX came out? I know in the past if you did not install certain pmdg aircraft in a certain order it would screw things up. Also, is there a Delta livery out there for this bird in their newest colors? Eric

Because of issues involving the MD-11X and FSDT KLAX and KDFW I uninstalled, paid $5 and downloaded it using the Extended Download Sevice and reinstalled it. So I believe that is an answer to you install order. I don't believe it makes any difference. Lee Marrow has several PMDG MD-!!X Delta liveries in the Avsim File Library. However I don't know if thewy are current or not.. The HD liveries really look good.Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
