January 9, 201214 yr A steady increase of pilots from Vatsim migrating to XPX as FSX grinds to a halt.I reckon the majority of VATSIM users are currently on FS2004, nevermind FSX...They'll go from FS2004 to FSX, and then maybe to XP10 if the 3rd party market has put their favorite airliner into the mix.I have yet to get my grip on some undocumented parameters, but from what I see texture compositing is very powerful in XP10...let's see how this evolvesI am watching with very interested eyes... (I hope Laminar is too!)-Greg
January 9, 201214 yr keep going Pascal, nice idea! * 2010 MacPro, 27' display * Snow Leopard * XP10 *

January 9, 201214 yr My first attempt a more city-like texture:I have yet to get my grip on some undocumented parameters, but from what I see texture compositing is very powerful in XP10.You are not the only one experimenting with this :( :http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=55342&hl=urban&fromsearch=1And even inside Laminar, a lot of this city artwork (ground textures included) is far from finished ... January 9, 201214 yr Thanks Greg, Wowee and zPirata! Wait till the herbicide really takes full effect ! You are not the only one experimenting with this :( :http://forums.x-plan...an&fromsearch=1And even inside Laminar, a lot of this city artwork (ground textures included) is far from finished ...Yes I was aware of Jspahn's work ! Just still too green for my taste ;) And I'm specifically trying to get some flat structure, ie leave houses and trees to 3d only.Since you read this Alpilotx, could you just give me a hint on how the "COMPOSITE_PARAMS" parameter works ? It's very tedious to change some numbers blindly and start X-plane all the day. Edited January 9, 201214 yr by Pascal_LSGC
January 9, 201214 yr If there was some way to convert FSX photoscenery to XPX I suspect alot of people would move over. I know I would.
January 9, 201214 yr AlpilotX, from the other forum... Well yes, the reason, why you don't see many urban textures is ... because there aren't that many at the moment :-). Most terrain definitions (the TER files) point to the same textures. But effectively there are about - sorry, I don't have my spreadsheets at hand for the moment - around 70-80 different urban terrains! Cities can have 12 different density levels (the urban TERs have a numbering scheme from 1 to 12 ... 1 being the most dense, 12 the sparsest/rural environment) and they are grouped in 6 or 7 climate zones. So, the potential to customize them is quite high ... and I hope we will soon have a bit more artwork to make them different.JESSUMS H. CRIPES!!!I will buy X-Plane 10 TODAY if you tell me that you can implement some of this with some new artwork by month end. Where's Bob Ross when you need him!I'm a vocal critic of the current state of XP10's scenery situation - as you probably know. I've also been cautious about getting my hopes up because it seems like quite a daunting task to actually bring it to a state of resonable completion. It is very encouraging to see these types of comments about the scenery status. I'm not a reader over at xp.org due to those damn ads on the damn forum, but I guess I probably should start paying some attention there, too.Just when I thought I could safely walk away from this section of the AVSIM forums.... oy vey.-GregEdit: Rogue smilie cleared out in Andras's quote... January 9, 201214 yr And even inside Laminar, a lot of this city artwork (ground textures included) is far from finished ... WOW ! Forgive me, alpilotx, no offence meant to you.I just wish that Laminar / Austin had the courage and was bold and upfront enough to say this PUBLICLY !This is why it is extremely important for Laminar to explain the "Roadmap and the Timeline for X-plane v10" to it's users, WHO PAID THE FULL PRICE, UPFRONT WITH NO IF'S, AND'S or BUT'S. January 9, 201214 yr Well, I am not responsible - in any way - for how the product is marketed ... so it would make no sense for me to talk about that. But I am free to talk about things I know about (which are usually technical aspects ... mostly about the scenery ... just like I did in that interview). So yes, I can tell you, that there is continual, ongoing work on cities ... it wont be finished tomorrow, neither at the end of this month. But there will definitely be change (which is the norm with X-Plane - which makes it maybe a bit different from classic software). I am also quite sure, that once we have more time to create documentation (especially about the quite complex, new - I don't know all aspects of this! - autogen system), even 3rd parties will be able (and I think will do so) to start customizing (and yes, regionalizing) cities.
