What will Windows 8 offer Simmers?

Featured Replies

Reading about the upcoming Windows 8 and the metro interface has me wondering if Win 7 will be a permenent fixture on my desktop. I dont own a touch screen monitor and never will, as I find it would be more work to touch the screen than using a mouse. I also dont want a screen full of fingerprints! Clearly this was designed for tablets only, but will desktop PC users ever, adapt to win 8? What will it offer gamers? Seems like win 8 will bring more things running in the backround that will have to be disabled in order to keep good FPS. (From a simmers point of view) Clearly Microsoft wants to copy Apples app store and reap in profits from app developers and control how people buy software online. Im just not crazy about the way this is moving. Im trying to keep an open mind, but at this point im not optimistic this will work out for microsoft. Flight simulation and some other PC games are the only things that holds me to Windows, otherwise Id be on Linux or Mac by now. Ill wait and see, but at this point Im not planning to upgrage my OS anytime soon. I am usually the first person inline when a new OS comes out, but this time I'm going to sit back and let everyone else go first. I wait and see what the reactions or and maybe a year after it comes out, Ill make a decision.Rob

I upgraded to Windows 7 the day it came out and haven't looked back. I've tried Windows 8 and it looks promising although the standard desktop computer isn't its aim.I actually think it'll be a much lesser amount of things running in the background - but that's just my opinion.I shall be sticking with 7 for the coming years :(

Only just got back in to flight simming and Avsim after a year or so - pardon me whilst I find my feet again!

I agree with Sam, Windows 7 is the new Windows XP that will reign on desktops for years to come.Microsoft has already stated that Windows 8 is geared towards tablets and touch-screen PC's, hence the touch driven interface.

Perhaps FLIGHT will be designed to work on Windows 8?

If you wanted to build a home cockpit with the instrument panels and radio stacks that use touch-screen monitors then you could make use of Windows 8. Other then that I can't think of any gain for FSX.

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

1. Who cares about FLIGHT.2. Who cares about Windows 8.Like Philip said, it's mainly for tablets. And, like Sam said, it will replace Windows XP's "legacy" that is currently going on. XP might, in fact, continue it's lifetime through 2015, to Microsoft's predictions. (XP's support ends in 2014)

Windows 8 looks nice. I have a friend that tried out the developer edition and he said that all of his programs from Windows 7 worked flawlessly. Glad to see that backwards compatibility hasn't been cut off.

I'm not sure if will improve on usb-connected touchscreen for this application, but a pair of 12" touchscrren monitors would be great for a g1000 sim setup.scott s..
