January 27, 201214 yr ZachLW. pointed me in the direction of MSE some time ago. Havn't looked back since. Rick Hobbs
January 27, 201214 yr Author COuld be a hardware throttling issue, not sure what kind of rig you're running. Maybe you have some power saving/ heat protection/GPU throttling, etc enabled.Nope, nothing like that. It's not consistent enough for that anyway. Happens once, randomly in flight, and not again during that flight.System is cool as a cucumber, and no power saving features. Edited January 27, 201214 yr by martin-w
January 27, 201214 yr I too have noticed this issue. Only started in the last few flights, and not all flights, since installing SP1b. I have installed AS2012, but the first time I had the issue was before I installed AS2012. What's weird, is I get a solid 30-locked FPS most everywhere. Before this issue, the lowest I've been is around NYC at dusk with 70% UT2 traffic and even then it was only dropping to around 12 or so but still smooth. But this is totally different. All three times it's happened have been on approach. Once to CYYZ, once to KBOI, and once to KMSY. I know it's not scenery related because all three of those airports are stock/slightly modified AFCAD only changes. And I don't use any fancy scenery or anything like that. And I don't think it's temp related since my Coolermaster 212+ is staying around 75% the whole time and my temps never really go over 55 or 60C during any FSX session. But it's like BAM, down to 2FPS slide show for about 30 seconds to a minute then right back up to 30. January 28, 201214 yr Wow, it seems like a forum battle was going to start due to my post. It would have been funny :(.Personally i'm really happy with Avast, but i just thought that it could also be so because:1) in my dialect ''avast'' means ''stop it'' (and it does it with viruses)2) when i had MSE, it always was a monster, never understood why. Maybe it was just my that had wasn't downloaded correctly and got corrupted?3) i had Vista for some years, on a dual core 1.6 ghz, 2 gb ram laptop. Graphic card was integrated in the cpu (they were probably thinking: ''we already have a weak cpu with a heavy OS on it, so why don't we put also the gpu workload on it?''). Since then, i got a ''if it's MS it's sh**ty'' phylosophy. :(
January 29, 201214 yr Author Happened again last night. This time down from 40 to 1 frame per second.Hit Alt/Enter and back to full screen and it was back up to 40 locked. Also had another issue I've not had before. Takeoff fine, climb fine. Then in the cruise, between EGPH and BIRK frame rate was half my normal cruise frame rate. Stayed like that no matter what I did. Even cleared the weather in FSUIPC, and REX wasn't ruinning in the background. Then, as i approached land, at 32,000 feet, the frame rate started to increase back up to my locked 40.REX water perhaps? But how come it's never done that before? And would water affect frame rate when I'm cruising at 32,000 feet? Edited January 29, 201214 yr by martin-w

No dont think its the rex water causing it otherwise there be lots of people in your shoes what settings have you got your slider in fsx in the water setting at, have you tried sliding it to a lower setting I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
January 29, 201214 yr Author Yes you are right Pete, it's not REX water. Had it over land also. This is what happened today. At the gate - 29 to 37Taxi - 38 to 40climb - 26 to 329000 feet - 28 to 3213000 feet - 37 to 42All normal for my system so far. Then, at 22,000 feet sudden drop to 1 FPS. Alt/Enter and then back into full screen, shot back up to 25-33 FPS. [Which is much lower than i normally see at that stage of flight]Also, instant I switch to the overhead, with the A key, or by panning, straight up to 40 FPS which I'm locked at.Cruise at 33,000 feet, over land, 24-30 FPS lower than i normally see. Stayed there even with REX weather cleared. At 33,000 feet in the cruise, at 470 miles from LOWI, the frame rate suddenly increased to the level I normally see in the cruise, right up to my locked 40 FPS.Frame rate was high the rest of the way, all the way to touchdown at LOWI. January 30, 201214 yr supposed you tried the most obvious things like sliding your settings to a lower setting. Is it only ngx related, if it is you mite try a re install to see if it solves the problem unless some one has a better solution than mine that is. January 30, 201214 yr Author Nothing to do with sliders. As you see above, the drop in frame rate is not what I normally see for my slider settings. Will see how it goes. SP1c is on the way, so that may have an influence.I also have a review copy of the Carenado JetProp on the way, so I will see how that behaves in the VC.
January 30, 201214 yr Commercial Member REMOVE the security essentials! It's a piece of crap: heavy, uneffective, laggy etc. When i had it i had often ctd, fps drops, fps always low, even bsod, and i excluded fsx and all his programs. Use avast insted, it's free, very effective, extremely light and easy to use. Best thing is it's structured in protection modules, all indipendent from each other, and you can shut down what you don't need. I deactivate all except imternet traffic protection when i fly, and when i don't need it i completely shut it off. Fps are a dream :)And absolutely don't use kaspersky, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay (did i say it enough?) waaay too resource heavyDead wrong in my experience (and in most other gamers') - MSSE is one of the lightest on resources that there is and it's very good in its actual virus detection. All of us at PMDG have used it for years without issue. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
January 30, 201214 yr Martin,From time to time I have the same issue - extreme fps drop. For example, yesterday approaching KJFK with the NGX, fps get down from 25 (I have them locked at this value) to 5. Don´t understand why either! Edmundo Azevedo
January 30, 201214 yr Yeah i agree with TABS i have used AVG before now and ran into all sorts of issues stopped using it and used the MSSE and now it's running like a dream ..Regards Steve Edited January 30, 201214 yr by Steve Inwood

Don´t understand why either!Strange isn't it Edmundo?Although in your case, it may be related to the fact that you were approaching a detailed and demanding airport. In my case, it's in the cruise, with no excessive demands placed on the system.
